Wish I could, but I don't know well enough to speak to this in an informed fashion. I know that each year we have some at-large additions post initial list. I assume that the Nat'l Team Coach or other top USA H people are involved and that ultimately they make these decisions.

Alternates Invited to USA Hockey Girls Camps

Post by girlshockey »

Each District of USA Hockey sends in a list of players selected for each camp from their tryout process (USA Hockey allocates a specific number to each District that they can send). If the Districts feel they have other players to recommend, they also send in a list of alternates. The Minnkota tryout staff always sends in a list of additional players. In May after the USA Hockey deadline for players to be submitted by the Districts, the USA Hockey staff and the Women's Director for USA Hockey get on a conference call and review all of the players that have been recommended for at-large positions and USA Hockey decides on who will be added to the summer camps and notifies the at-large players directly.

There are 11 Districts in USA Hockey. Next year there will be 12 when the new Northern Plains District, comprised of North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming, is included, and Minnesota becomes a District by itself.

Is Tom Mutch going to be coaching at these camps this summer?

Let's hope not. I hope not, for obvious reasons, and some perhaps not so obvious. I Personally felt it was inappropriate prior to recent developments. I don't think he should coach female hockey players again...ever.

After this, it is highly unlikely that USA Hockey will have him involved with anything they are part of.

Does anyone know how you would even find out who the at-large selections are? Is there a list posted somewhere or do these girls get added to the list that was already posted?

I don't know the timing for all of the levels, but I do know of one 1991 player who received a call on Tuesday night and was invited as an at large selection. As of yesterday her name had NOT been added to the list on the web site.

District Allocations

Post by speedpass »

If USA Hockey allocates a specific number of guaranteed "slots" to the NDP, is it the actual District, then, that determines the individual allocations for EACH age group? Or does USA Hockey pre-determine the number when giving out the allocation each year?

USA Hockey tells each of the 11 Districts exactly how many allocations they receive for each individual camp. USA Hockey then divides the allocations into offense, defense and goalie positions. In Districts that are multi-state, such as Minnkota which is Minnesota, North and South Dakota, the District determines how they will hold their tryout process. Minnkota invites all players (for the past 5 years) to a Phase I tryout and include the North and South Dakota players in that process. Then the players are picked from the four areas to advance as a team to the Phase II process. Other Districts which include 4 or 5 states may ask the individual states to hold a tryout process and then send the players to a one-site tryout process where they pick the players who will advance. Minnesota will be a District by iteself next year and the Hockey Operations Committee of Minnesota Hockey has decided to select their female players that advance to the USA Hockey camps in the same manner that they select the boys. See the Minnesota Hockey website for 2007 Brochure on how the boys events are completed, which will be how the girls program will be modeled. http://www.minnesotahockey.org/programs/programs.asp

The additional Phase 3 will add $125 to the tryout process for the girls and an extra weekend to spend being evaluated.

Good info. but I have heard differing reports as to the cost associated with this. I understand the notion of another weekend being problematic, and could well add cost, but someone mentioned to me that it may happen that the MGHCA may mesh all their event tryouts into the NDP process thus eliminating duplicate weekends, cost, etc.?
