Fishing Opener

Post by State Champ 97 »

Whose going where?
I will be on Cass Lake for the opener but I am looking for a good resort that accepts tents within an hour or so of Bemidji for Memorial Day weekend.
I know of some but am looking for someplace new that will be fun for the the kids as well as adults. If I can catch a fish or two that would help make a good weekend. Any ideas?

I plan on fishing the Rivers of Red Lake county--the Clearwater and the Red Lake. Minnows and Crawlers. :D :D :D

Conditions are ripe for a great opener. A nasty rain could change the plan

Good luck and release the big ones :!:

I am going to Red Lake. Hopefully the fishing will be as good as it was last season. I think later this summer the powers that be are increasing the limit from 2 to 4 Walleyes.

I will be heading up to my hunting shack in Bemidji. I will probably start out on Lake Plantagenet, but will do a bit of lake hopping as I'm sure it will be quite busy. Hopefully Lake Hennepin is freshly stocked! I can't think of a better way to spend Mother's Day weekend!!! (Gonna have to make that up the following weekend)

Some of my favorite memories from opening day took place at the boat landings on Winnie. We would get to the landing about an hour early just so we could watch all the Iowa guys trying to back their boats in. There is nothing more hilarious than watching a guy in striped overalls driving a $50,000 RV trying to back up his $200 12' boat he can't even see in his mirrors. Hung up, jack knifed, forgot to put the plug in. Man, those were the days.

My father told me he heard it on the radio up in TRF. It wouldn't surprise me if they increased it later in the summer when the fishing slows down a little.

Lake Plantangenet, I was there for a bachelor party one time and for some reason a group of about 20 kids from the local deaf camp stopped by and stole some things from us. It was probably one of the funnier moments of my life. No offense to deaf people, they were great fun, but they robbed us!

Is the opener Mothers Day weekend again?

Why can't they change Mothers Day? Nobody in Minnesota celebrates it anyway.

I sat on Winnie for 8 hours and Satruday. I only reeled in 5 perch. Tough day.

The bite was very good on Saturday, early in the morning and right before dark on Cass Lake.

It was a pretty slow opener on Lake Plantagenet. We caught one walleye and a handful of perch. We then went to Lake Bemidji at night, right at the mouth of the Mississippi, and hit the walleye and perch like crazy. A little sun burnt, but all-in-all a great weekend!

Heard a funny one on the radio Monday...the guy from Honker Flats Greenhouse out near the Thief Lake refuge claimed the new secret weapon for catching fish is to lace your bait with Preparation H. What will they think of next....Visine...gets the Golden Eyes out.
