Has anyone received their tryout invitation letters yet?? If not, any idea when the tryouts will be held for this camp?

Try-outs

Post by JJhockeySS »

They are held the weekends between Easter and Mothers Day, and exact times and locations are not set yet. As soon as the times and locations are set the invitations for try-outs will be sent for both this camp and Jr. Fest.

So there is a camp and try-outs, but what are they trying out for? Is there some sort of tourney or games they play, or just the camp?

They are invited to try out to attend the Minnesota High School Hockey Coaches Association Development Camp. Yes, they do play in nightly games (after working out all day) however the purpose of the camp is to teach the girls what is need to get from D3 to D1. (among other development issues) Sounds like JJhockeySS is actually involved and could give us a better understanding...

Are there certain exempt players that tried out and participated last year, or are ALL players required to try out?

I did not hear of any exempt players last year. It is my understanding that all participants have to be recommended by their HS coach to even tryout. Tryouts are not a "piece of cake." There are many (hundreds) of talented skaters who try out.

findme is correct - There are no exempt players anyone interested in participating will need to attend a try-out. Dates should be set in the near future, and I would anticipate the invites will besent out in early April.

Fresh/Soph camp goal is as follows:

The difference between a Division III hockey player and a Division I hockey player is minimal these days. The difference between a third line D-I player, who will see a couple of shifts a game and a fourth line D-I player who may see a couple of shifts over the entire season, is even less. It takes a lot of dedication and hard work to make yourself just a little bit better than the players you are competing against. Spring Leagues and AAA Teams are fun to play on, but developmentally they do little for you. Trading off a little bit of fun today for a lot more fun later on requires that you spend more time concentrating on skill development and training.
What we want to provide players with at our camp are tools that will help them help themselves become better hockey players. We will provide players with information, tools, training programs, ideas etc. that they can take with them and work on, on their own, during the off-season and throughout their regular season.
Our camp will give players a taste of what it is like to train at the high, intense level that they will encounter if they choose to move on to the collegiate level or beyond. It will also give them a taste of what level of training will be required of them to get to that next level.

Fresh/Soph Development Camp try out invites have been sent-received yesterday. Any news on who will be coaching this year? Was it the Breck or Blake Head Coach there last year? It would be great to have him back this year.

Application Deadline Error

Post by UWhockey88 »

For the Fresh/Soph Dev. Camp Tryout Application the Deadline is: Saturday, April 4th, 2007. I assume this is an error and the actual date it Saturday, April 7th, 2007??

Probably, but to be sure you can call Tom Maeckelbergh at 763-213-1037 just to be sure or ask for an extension if necessary.

Sounds like this went pretty well last week. Many positive statements from those I spoke with.
