Get Simmons pads. There just as good, or better. And a lot less $.hansentp wrote:im wondering if those pads are any good and if any one on here uses them

No way is Simmons equal or better, they are like store brand cereal...cheaper, comparable, but not nearly the same thing. But also about the premier 2 pads, are they pro specs, as in 11 in. wide? Because I saw the new Vaughn V3's today, and they were pro specs so i'm wondering if all new pads from here on out will be 11 in. wide

No, they arn't all 11in wide. The Preimer 2's and V3's, were when they first came out, but now they are both in 12in. Right now i use the Preimer 1's, and i really cant see all that much of a diffrence between the Premier 1's and 2's except that right now the 2's are alot more $HShockey2180 wrote:No way is Simmons equal or better, they are like store brand cereal...cheaper, comparable, but not nearly the same thing. Obviously you haven't looked at what your Rochester kids are wearing! Simmons stuff is top quality and about $300 a set cheaper.....And IT'S REALLY MADE IN CANADA not CHINA like almost every else's lines.

if simmons pads were so great all hockey companies would start producing pads for the same price. simmons uses cheaper materials and/or less materials to make their knockoff pads. Seriously. have you seen their ads in American Hockey mag? They have their own version of the RBK, the Velocety, the Blockade, and the old koho's.
It wouldn't make any sense to sell a $1000 pad for $400. They obviously make lesser quality. What goalies use simmons in D1 and up? none. absolutely none. And i know for a fact that itech, TPS, ccm, and RBK all make their pads in Canada. they all have a little tag on the pad saying, 'made in canada'. they couldn't do that legally and make them in china. China is good for mass manufaturing walmart products, but goalie pads are pretty much totally hand made (stitching, sewing in the protective material, etc.)
itech 12.8 x-wings are the way to go. I just got my pair last weekend and they are amazing. They really make good NHL size pads.

^ ^ he has a great point. Simmons has ripped of the vaughn v2 pad and im suprised they arent catching much flak for it. They look completly identical to the vaughn v2s.
^ ^ i was looking at the X-wings and they look really nice, but definetly not 1,700$ nice. But i guess if you can afford it, you get what you pay for. Im using the Vaughn Velocity 2s and i really really like them. As for the RBK pads, im not much of a fan they are too big and bulky.

Of the major manufactures only the PRO lines are made in Canada. Almost every manufactures second line down pads are made in China like every other piece of equipment.
The guy from Niagra used there pads in D1. There are a few in the AHL, ECHL & WHL.
They charge less because they have about 30 employees and everything sells out of their shop in Fort Erie......NO MIDDLE MAN, NO SALE REPS....NO FEEs Paid to the NHL. That's how they are cheaper. All of their models are outstanding in materials and workmanship.
As for ripped off other manufactures ideas. They have patent laws in Canada too.

Dude, Simmons can get their patent because they take a vaughn or RBK design, tweak minor details and use different materials. I haven't heard of these alleged goalies using simmons in the AHL, ECHL, and so on. I don't mind simmons, its just when people don't realize that they aren't the best quality pads, they are actually cheaper knockoffs.HockeyRocks1 wrote:Of the major manufactures only the PRO lines are made in Canada. Also, you can't sell PRO quality goalie pads for 300% less just by cutting out middle men, and sales reps.

The question of getting 11 or 12 inch pads has come up for me as well. Des Christopher, the owner of the goalie club, said that if i wanted to play after HS then go to 11 inch pads so you would be used to them. I got a chance to try 11 inch pads the other day and the difference was hardly noticiable(sp?) to me. It all depends on you play. I will be getting 12 inch pads just because i didn't notice much of a difference.

Actually I have tried them on.puckstopper24 wrote:I use those rbk premier 2's and they are the best pads I have ever used. The guy that thinks simmons pads are better should actually take a look at some premier 2's, he obviously hasn't seen them. Anybody who is looking to get new pads, get these. They are the best, no questions asked.
