As we all have seen before some changes could happen with teams adding or dropping their COOP. For all of you knowlegable people out there can anybody think of some changes that could happen?
If so - how will that affect their current section and the section they would get moved into?
And if a team adds or drops a COOP could that affect another team to have to move up to AA or down from AA?

Re: Changes to sections
No. The actions of one team do not impact others in this way.shootthepucknow wrote:As we all have seen before some changes could happen with teams adding or dropping their COOP. For all of you knowlegable people out there can anybody think of some changes that could happen?

The new high school down in the SE metro splitting Park and Woodbury will add a 10th member to someone's section - probably 3AA. But I can't imagine that the ##'s force anyone from AA to A - but the Lakeville schools played in A until the senior class was filled - (do I have this right?) - so maybe there might be another A team out there. Not sure if the school is slated to open by 2008-2009.

Competitive Section Assignments 2007-2008, 2008-2009
Competitive Section Assignments for the next two years have been completed and released by the MSHSL Board of Directors. Many schools may see a change from their current assignments due to some changes passed since the last the 2005-2006, 2006-2007 cycle.
Enrollments from grades 9-12 were used (previously 9-11).
A reduction for every school was calculated based on the reported free and reduced lunch counts.
Four activities changed how they are classified (Volleyball, Softball, Baseball, Wrestling).
One activity moved from two to three classes (Golf).
We ignored previous placements, focusing on numerical balance, travel concerns and consistency.
The Athletic Director Advisory Committee, the MSHSL Board, and the 16 Region Secretaries have all met to approve these placements. Once again, these are for the 2007-2008, 2008-2009 school years. Due to schools forming cooperative agreements, dissolving cooperative agreements, adding activities, and dropping activities, these placements will continue to change. When a school makes a change to their status in a particular activity it will not affect other schools, we will not realign any schools past today. The Board does not accept appeals on these placements.
If you have any questions, please contact Chris Franson at the MSHSL via email or telephone (763-560-2262)

I didn't mean that it would force an "uninvolved team" to AA or A - but you could see how splitting a school in half (or taking out a third) could drastically change enrollment of the involved schools. I still understand that all the schools at issue are AA regardless of splits (unless there is a gradual build up in the new school), but I don't think the new school will be ready to roll before sections get realigned

Yes. I wanted to clairify though. We talk about two kind of "forced" moves - one is when changes at one school (or schools) appear to impact another school (or schools) at next alignment... the other concept doesn't happen, which is realignment of teams in an alignment period due to decisions by others during this period...
When Lakeville split, starting with the 2005-06 season, both North and South played in the Lake Conference, but South played in A for the sections, having no seniors in the entire school that first year. In 2006-07, both North and South played in 1AA.SEMetro wrote:The new high school down in the SE metro splitting Park and Woodbury will add a 10th member to someone's section - probably 3AA.
