Warroad Vs Park Rapids 2-24-07
Moderators: Mitch Hawker, east hockey, karl(east)
Here's a news flash...IF PR is skating a half dozen times or so a month in Burrmidgi all summer than they are ahead of some of the top teams in that regard. Warroad has no summer ice other than the two-three weeks during the hockey camp. So, you want a suggestion? Like i said in another thread on this board, PR (along with DL) should switch back to 4A. In that section they would be much more competitive and could probably make some tourny appearances. These would generate plenty of interest in the young kids and would eventually make more of them turn out in the fall. This of course would lead to larger numbers, better players and so on... I am in no way trying to tell you that PR could never be a competitor at the single A level, why shouldn't they be? They have a population almost the size of Warroad and Roseau combined.

I really don't know if they still rent ice in Bemidji or not. I believe they do, but I'm not 100% on that. PR's HS program is also only 17 years old. Before that it was all outdoor ice, all the time.
As far as going back to 4A, DL made a few State Tourney appearances in that Section, and obviously it didn't help resolve anything. Pushing them and PR back to 4A wouldn't help anything.

I get tired of hearing about bad coaching. "Should Morinville be fired" is the dumbest site on the web, I'd have laid into FF is it wasn't locked. Your comment above is just as stupid.SB24 wrote:If you want another opinion of the coaching, order a transcript of the hockey game, from Warroad Radio Station. The only system visable to them was the one player system, which obviously does not work. The PR coach sited speed as his advantage. Where was the speed. Obviously the talent of warroad far outweighed the speed of park.

reports that the Park Rapids coach, Pete Stahke was voted by the coaches the Section 8A Coach of the Year.
You talk about "Systems." USA Hockey de-emphazised that term years ago as being too rigid. They like to use the term "Concepts." I know the PR kids know systems (1-2-2, 2-2-1, 3-2, umbrella, overload, left wing lock, center break out, forwards regroup.........), but it is never the RULE that the right wing ALWAYS goes to the puck in the opponents right corner. Zone entry with F1, F2, F3. "Concepts" include "Read and React," "Create Time and Space," "Support the Puck,"........ Lucia down played "Systems" in his talk seen elsewhere on this site. The great Herb Brooks talked about "Creativity."
Not you or "Warroad Radio Station" have any business criticizing coaching.
Fire the coaches at MHD, AHA, CEC, CDH????--none of them made the big show.
Leave them alone.

My thoughts exactly, Mohunk. Nice post.mohunk wrote:I get tired of hearing about bad coaching. "Should Morinville be fired" is the dumbest site on the web, I'd have laid into FF is it wasn't locked. Your comment above is just as stupid.

Good job Mohunk.
I know Morinville, great person and great coach.
Some of the teams in the Section do not like it when other programs begin to develop because they worry about how it affects their teams chances to get to the big show.
Being from EGF, I see that with some of the people.
I welcome it. The better the competition, the better everybody has to get. I believe that 8A is turning in to one of the toughest sections in hockey.
Here's to PR!!!

I was the first on this board to welcome Bemidji into 8A because i was hoping they would move DL or PR or both teams to a new section. It ended up now that DL is out and Bemidji is in, a good improvement for 8a. I'm all about having better teams in the section. PR is not one of the better teams in the section, no matter how many times the Stooges try and convince me otherwise.
Oh, and as far as being creative and not using systems... If it is obvious that they are only using one "system" than they aren't being very creative are they? Givin all that freedom to do what they want and they end up doing the same thing every time...
Just when the board was starting to slow down a bit, leave it to the Stooges to resurect this fine thread...Thanks

When was the last time Bemidji was a threat to anyone. They haven't been very good for a while. I hope the coaches there can get the program back to respectability. Until they do however, they won't be much more of a threat than PR (which we all know is not a very big threat). Here is too elitism and the rule of over the peasant class.
I think we can let Elliot handle this one....Wild4hockey wrote:When was the last time Bemidji was a threat to anyone. They haven't been very good for a while.
