do these people who make these lists have any sense of knowledge for girl's hockey? they should have some avid followers of girl's hockey so they fit everyone in

This is the AP. Talk to your local sports reporter to see if they gave input!!!

Usually the outstate AP members do a good job of promoting the deserving kids from their area that should be on this list.

They must also get a lot more votes from Southern Minnesota - it's to the point where it is ridiculous:

Austin - 5
Marshall - 4
Faribault, New Ulm, Mayo - 3 each
Winona, Mankato West, Rochester JM - 2 each
Plus one each from Albert Lea, Fairmont, Dodge County, Owatonna, Rochester Century

That's 29 players from southern communities. I say divide them all up into two teams and have them play Edina and Roseville, who had one player between the two of them.

Also Austin and Marshall had more than twice as many as Stillwater and BSM, maybe they could play them straight up.

The more I look at the list, the less sense it makes. Besides Edina getting shut out entirely, I don't see any players from teams like Wayzata, Centennial, Eagan, Hopkins, North St. Paul, South St. Paul, CDH, Hill Murray, Armstrong, Elk River, Anoka, Maple Grove, Andover, etc etc. You can't tell me that these teams didn't have ANY girls who were deserving of at least an Honorable Mention. It's absurd, actually.

It seems fairly obvious to me, the person/people who put these lists together look strictly at statistics.

I saw Marshall and Austin at the X. Nine total on the list! I'm not sure there are 4 players between the two teams that would have made the Stillwater, Roseville or EP Varsity. I guess it is what it is. It's just a shame that they only looked at stats for the first and second teams also--you'd think they would actually do a tiny bit of homework at least for that.

Does anyone know when the Coaches Association All State list will be published? I keep hearing that is the "true" list, but coaches can be biased and not necessarily judge girls based on their talent. I agree, there are some girls on the AP and Pioneer teams that are there because of points. Many of those girls have huge numbers because of the the weak schedule they played. Not much team work, only individual effort.

The mere fact that we live South of Lakeville equates to 0 talented hockey players??? You're assuming that since a girl lives in Edina or Roseville that she is automatically better than a girl from Austin.

For you to imply that the best 17 girls from Southern Minnesota would not be able to compete with the HS teams from Edina and Roseville is ridiculous. The biggest issue the teams down here face is depth, it just doesn't exist.

I usually dont comment on these teams but I agree this list is ridiculous. How does a class A team that isnt even .500 get 4 players listed? Seriously, how does Fergus Falls get 4 players listed and Edina and Wayzata none? And some of the top ranked class AA not even one? I see the state AA champs as only having 2? One of the best if not the best defensive team in the state and not one defenseman listed?

I haven't seen either Edina or Roseville play, but I've seen some of the younger individuals from those schools play on various select teams over the past few years. From what I've seen, on an individual basis, I would MAYBE give a slight advantage to the Edina or Roseville player(s)-maybe.
I just find it really hard to believe that 1 HS team is better than all of the players in Southern Minnesota combined.

Besides I have to agree with what Hockeywild7 said, "this list is ridiculous".

i agree that there are some girls that should not be on there ie, Marshall either destroys teams (stacked stats) or gets destroyed (can't compete) so they obviously have girls on there because of the state run

but Austin has some very talented girl same with AL, Faribault, Mankato West, Winona, Mayo and other southern teams...it's true most teams south of the cities aren't always as good as the metro area but you have to realize they don't have a hundred girls to choose from, maybe just twenty or thirty, so there are still good players the teams just don't have a lot of depth

instead of have four girls at an Erin Cody level they have one... and we all know that hockey is a team sport and one player can't win it for you so they don't normally stack up to metro teams

there are girls that don't belong on that list but that doesn't mean you should cut down every girl south of lakeville, and anyways they're just kids this isn't the end of the world

I agree 100% that the list is ridiculous. We really shouldn't worry about it so much, but I always think of the girls who skate together during the spring or summer. When they play together and kid A is clearly better than kid B, and yet kid B can claim to be All-State HM and kid A can't, it must be an odd situation. Hopefully the kids put no more stock in it than the posters on this forum do.

Maybe we should do the points conversion based on SOS that I mentioned in another thread and look at that too...

Or, better yet, put a list together that has only the kids mentioned on 3 of 4 or all 4 of these lists. That will be a short list comprised of the very best I assume...

I'm with Bensonmum - my money would be on Edina or Roseville, plus I would add EP and BSM in there too. But this is pure speculation, since we'll never know the answer.
