I'm not a West fan, but I feel I have to stand up for those guys. Especially Trembley. I have know him for a long time and I'm not going to let him or his team be villanized by some punk who wasn't even there.
Some of the posters on here may have forgotten what emotions come forth after a hockey career has ended. For a career to end, for dreams to end, due to an injury suffered in the section quarters is no way to go out. I completely understand the frusteration and I completely understand the brawl.

You sound like you have no class or respect for the game. How many other high school games end in brawls in the hand shake of all places. Do it during the game if you want to fight. When that last buzzer goes that is when it is over leave the rest in the game.

I love the game of hockey and I understand the emotion that can lead to a fight. The game has never been played by nancies and I hope it never will. I can't beleive this outcry. This kind of thing has been going on for as long as the game has been played. Don't act so shocked and appauled at tonights events because this isn't the last time it will happen. Pony up and suck it up. I'm glad that the game can still ignite such emotion. Tempers flair- get over it.hockeyfan101 wrote:You sound like you have no class or respect for the game. I'm disappointed with the philisophical degradation of the modern hockey fan. People like you are breeding a new generation of softies.donita wrote:" I am not a west fan" go change your diaper if you want to act like a little baby. These kids are in for some tough roads ahead if this is how they deal with disapointment.Get over it, it is a game for crying out loud.
Frustration doesn't have to lead to a brawl. This seems to be a common occurance for West. Get frustrated..start fights. Maybe someone (coach) needs to get a better handle on the situation. And don't use the "career over" excuse. Everyone's career ends at some point. I didn't see a fight at the end of the AL-Marshall game. I do know what its like to have your hockey career end in a dissappointing way. Play the game hard and give it everything you have. But when its over, don't act like an out of control animal. Grow up, accept the loss and move on.

You are wacked MSUMavericks Fan
I am all for the emotions i have been there and played the game to but good hockey comes with class and you can ask anyone that. And class means NOT fighting in the hand shacks. Fight all you want during the game I am all for that and I think most people are but not during the hand shack. How many other games have this same ending? Keep it in the game. This is equal to a punch in the nuts. Good fighters with class don’t hit a guy in the nuts when they are down and out they accept it and move on in life. I can’t believe that you are defending them this much.
For anyone who believes that the coach for West should receive the consequences for what transpired after tonights game, let me tell you that he is one of the classiest guys that I have every had the pleasure of meeting and is one hell of a great coach! Ken put his entire heart & soul into this hockey team like any great coach does and served as a wonderful role model for his players and the rest of the coaches on his staff. I feel so bad that he was caught in the middle of this whole ordeal. There comes a point where kids have to take responsibility for their actions, and tonight is a shining example of where the players let their coach down and need to be held accountable for what they might have done on the ice. From someone who has had the great pleasure of getting to know Ken personally, I know just how much something like this breaks his heart; anyone who devotes their entire heart to a bunch of guys like Ken does and would do absolutely anything for them to make sure that they will be successful in life knows what I'm talking about and can empathize with Ken who is wrapped up in this situation. Ken did everything that he could to be a great role model for these kids, which he most certainly is. Ken has never promoted fighting or any unsportsmanlike actions, quite the contrary! Before tonights game, he told his players that, no matter what happens, remember that you're not only representing yourself, your representing your school and your city; play with pride! The boy's on West's hockey team are a great bunch of guys that unfortunately made some bad decisions tonight. It's just really unfortunate what happened tonight... I wish New Ulm the best of luck with their big game coming up on Friday against Albert Lea!

I agree with you here. I'm not saying that what happend was by any means good and proper. I'm just saying that I can understand why it happened, and I'm not going to go around saying West is a disgrace to the game, because that's just incorrect.JRdeeez wrote:Frustration doesn't have to lead to a brawl. Keep in mind that two sides are involved in a "brawl" punches were being thrown by both teams. If you want to be a real morality stickler you could say New Ulm was equally responsable because they fought back.

good words pony
you are right and i know that ken is a good guy but how many times is West going to do this. you dont see east doing year after year. and it is a let down to the coach to see everything he tought go out the door but it seems that he never has control at the end of the game when they are losing

emotions
and that is where your emotions come into play your gut reation is to fight back and to stick up for your team. it should have never got to this point. you see a buddy getting beat up in the bar by three guys you are going to go and help him fight back even if you dont know why he is getting beat up. that same comsept applys here. A mankato guy throughs a punch you dont know what happened so you go after that guy who punched first and before you know it the dump hit the fan and everyone is throughing a punch.

Re: emotions
You're right. Too bad New Ulm didn't use their angelic wings and float away from that sinful exchange.hockeyfan101 wrote:and that is where your emotions come into play your gut reation is to fight back and to stick up for your team. it should have never got to this point. you see a buddy getting beat up in the bar by three guys you are going to go and help him fight back even if you dont know why he is getting beat up. that same comsept applys here. West-New Ulm
New Ulm played an excellent game. Buegler was great in the net. They deserved the victory. They have a well-coached, talented young team with an excellent senior goalie. NU won that game with three 10th-graders on defense, and those sophs played great, especially Burgau. I like their chances against Albert Lea.
Marshall played a terrible game against Albert Lea. I've seen them play better but they were never in the game Monday. AL only had 24 shots in the game and won easily. They won't have it so easy against NU.
I saw the brawl outside after the game. It was pretty ugly. The Mankato police are looking for the kid from New Ulm who did most of the damage, whoever he is.
Whenever or whereever those teams play again, I'd advise whoever is in charge to have law enforcement on hand. The post-game atmosphere was very, very tense after the fight on the ice, and there were no Mankato police in sight. The fight outside was very close to turning into a riot.
Eventful night. Congrats to New Ulm for an outstanding effort on the ice.

for whoever said west showing no class... sure you may be right but how bout new ulm as well? maybe not the team which they were cocking off pretty badly after the game... but the fans which one kid from west got blind sided and had to go to the hospital with messed up jaw and loose teeth... blood everywhere. great class new ulm...
While I do not condone the actions of the West player who started the fight, but does anyone else find it interesting that the same kid who cocked off in line is the same kid who cheapshotted a West player from behind with a shot to the back of the head with TWO minutes left in the game. Fact of the matter, this same kid did the same thing to the same West player this year in the summer league. He's nothing but a little gutless hack who's not man enough to hit somebody from the front Granted, the ref called a penalty, but it was a blatant shot to the head that should of resulted with him being asked to leave the ice. Maybe the brawl does not start then
This does leave a black mark on the whole game and there was a lot of trash talking throughout the game.
NU played a great game and wanted it more. Good luck to everyone on that team except the little gutless hack. He shouldn't be playing Friday as he was the instigator of the whole thing.

the New Ulm player
That open-ice hit away from the play with two minutes left was unnecessary and did seem to get things going in the wrong direction. It set off the Mankato West student section, and I'm sure it didn't go over too well on the West bench either.
Too bad that hit marred what had been an outstanding game by the Eagles, but it was not good. Still, New Ulm played outstanding hockey, and Buegler could not have come up bigger.
How about this: If Trembley doesn't hurt himself, does West win? NU tied the game after Trembley was injured. And he hurt himself making a great save on that shorthanded rush. He was on his game and may have been the difference for West.

I don't know anyone from New Ulm, so I won't comment on what that player said or what he did in summer league or tonights game.
New Ulm better let this incident blow over and move on quick or they won't know what hit them Friday night. If AL comes out like they did tonight and NU doesn't have their heads in the game it could get out of control. However, I do think NU will be ready and Fridays game will be a good one...and hopefully a clean one.

West vs new ulm
Goaler, I do not know where you are from but I have enjoyed reading your post this year. You tell it like is with no bias. As far as the game tonight I am a parent of one of the New Ulm players and I was at the game also tonight. I thought other than about 8 to 10 minutes of the second period New Ulm wanted the win more than West. Buegler played well, but so did the 3 sophmores New Ulm has on defense. New Ulm's offense came alive in this game which has struggled most of the year to pump in more than 1 or 2 goals a game. I was like most parents from West or New Ulm not happy with how the game ended. But, I also know this age group of kids has had years of bad blood between them. And both teams can take credit for that. The sad thing about this whole ordeal is once this age group is gone, West and New Ulm could play each other and 9 out of 10 times nothing would happen like this. But, after this I would bet the game between West and New Ulm will not happen next year. There will always be bad blood but it would probably not end up like this in the future. Also, I would like to send my congrats out to Erik Setterholm the coach of the Eagles for getting New Ulm to the Section Finals in his first year of coaching the Eagles. Good Luck on Friday.
