1AA has played their semi-final games at the Rec Center, JM and now Century's home arena for nearly 20 years now.

The reason I brought up the school cancelled thing was girls basketball needs to make up games Monday as well and I guess it's maybe since gyms are at schools, but facilities may be a huge problem on Monday. They can't set a place to play until Monday and can't even do that until they know which schools will be even open. It's just what a bunch of AD's were discussing at wrestling tonight.

Another problem will be officials, can the guys scheduled to work still make it? I'm just glad I'm not in charge of this stuff.

All true. Once you decide to postpone this time of year, it gets very, very hard to make it all work. You are dealing with such a smaller window of time to get it done. And with more snow and wind and ice expected mid-week, it may get worse before it gets better.
Teams will need to stay ready to go.
Glad I am not in charge of making some tough decisions. Wish them luck. Hopefully all teams and their followers will be understanding and helpful.
Best of luck to all to get it done safely and fairly.

My son and I drove all the way from Austin to the GAC Saturday, only to find out that the games were cancelled. So we drove back to Austin after deciding not to try Rochester because it was probably cancelled too. (Good guess)

Saturday night I drove to Owatonna to watch the Express game against Fargo. Great game. Great hockey. Roads were not bad.

I guess all those years driving to games in Section 8 and Section 7 made me immune to weather wimpism. I drove to Crookston from Grand Forks in a blizzard one night to see Roseau play when it was a one-class state. Great game. And I had to plow my own way to Eveleth from Hibbing to see a game one night there in the Hippodrome. Two years ago I drove through a terrible blizzard to get to WCHA tourney game because I had free tickets.

I'll drive through anything to see a hockey game. I've got a sickness.

Too bad you couldn't have been driving the busses for the four teams supposed to be playing at GAC yesterday.

i am rooting for the underdogs to win tomarrow (marshall and new ulm). They seem to never get enough credit sometimes; especially marshall. It would be nice to see one of them make it to state. best of luck tomarrow.[/b]

Should be a fun night. Seem to remember seeing all of these 4 teams on CC ice at least once in their careers. Probably not since PW or Bantam tournaments for most of them, tho.
NU plays on big ice. Won't affect them. The other 3 will adapt. All skate pretty well, don't see a real advantage for anyone. Here's hoping they go in and play hard and don't use it for an excuse if it doesn't go well.
Glad they were able to find a place where all 4 can gather, splitting the semis up wouldn't be much fun.
AL has a history of success, plays a very good schedule, and an experienced coaching staff.
West has a good hungry squad built on speed and skill, good coaches and high expectations.
NU will play hard, very rarely give up easy opportunites, and will make you earn what you get.
Marshall has nothing to lose, most of the roster has played in some big games, and won't back down.
1A has looked forward to seeing these 4 play for some marbles. Let's see what happens.

Whats this I hear about West getting ice time at GAC over the last week? Is this legal? I think it is crap...it's not fair just because they are 10 mins away. This gives them an unfair advantage since AL and Marshall don't have access. I would like to hear more about this one...

West seems pretty confident they'll get past New Ulm to play in the final Friday night if they are scheduling practices as GAC!

Should be a couple good games tonight.

I'll put my money on Albert Lea and New Ulm in the upset special.

Puckhandler, before you go shooting your mouth off that West seems overconfident that they are scheduling practices at GAC let me set you straight. They had one practice at GAC last Friday before the scheduled semifinal that was postponed. I can assure you that West is not taking NU lightly. They know they will have there hands full and this game is going to go to the team that wants it the most and catches the most breaks.

Golfreak. quit whining about fairness. If the West coach had enough foresight to schedule an hour at GAC, good for him.
Look at Section 1AA. Their semifinals are at the Roch Rec Center which is Century's home rink!
I suppose you will be whining about the big sheet next. Now that is an advantage to NU as they play on a big sheet..right.
Just let the teams decide it on the ice tonite once and for all.

It will be two competitive games where I think any of the teams involved can win

Not shooting my mouth off.

I just think they'll lose.

Good for them scheduling practice at GAC.

I bet if Albert Lea was the town holding the section semifinal games at a rink they have never played at they would be the first ones there for a practice.

Dont hate the player hate the game.

I guess that depends on which sheet they were going to have the games on.

I'll reiterate, I could care less where they practice.

Puckhandler. You seem pretty up to speed on the Section. Just would like your thoughts on why NU will win.
I respect the heck out of them, just not sure they have enought depth. They are very stingy, which is good for playoff hockey, but seem to have a lack of goal scorers.

It may come down to the team that is more disciplined and stays out of the box

I think they'll win with Buegler standing on his head and with NU being oppotunistic in the offensive end.

I think that would be the only way they'll win, since they'll get outshot about 40-20.

Actually, I just put that NU would win to piss you and hockeydude and katoguy off.

Still should be two close games. If the 1 and 2 lose, it'll be a surprise.

Can't wait for the games tonight! It should be two fantastic games, I don't think they will disappoint. I could be wrong but I think Marshall will play a much more inspired hockey game than they did against Austin. If they don't AL will destroy them.
The big factor in the Mankato West vs New Ulm game will be who can stay out of the penalty box. If New Ulm goes shorthanded too much they won't have a prayer. West has probably the best powerplay in the Section. I think everyone will agree with that. If New Ulm stays out of the box it should be a very interesting game!!! Good Luck to EVERYONE!

Marshall-3

Mankato West-4
New Ulm-2
