Give Rapids credit, boys. They overcame two deficits, owned East in the second period, and the Hounds had no answer for Patrick White today.

Da Chicks deserve to play against Cloquet. Oh man, I can't believe I'm rooting for the Lumberjacks?! This almost causes me physical and psychic distress. Image

Ya me too Lee i want cloquet to be able to see what its like to play against some much bigger schools. I really dont think cloquet is not ready for state if they make it.....and if they do i think they will lose in first round..

Well, todays second period was very similar to the one that eventually set the tone for a 2nd place finish last year. Last year Rapids out shot the Elks 23-2 in the second period of the semis. This year they out shot East 18-2. Great game for Rapids, they came in ready and snuck one out. Great year East.

Duluth East Fan, get it together.

Cloquet is loyal to Northeastern Minnesota. Playing teams like #1 ranked single A Hermantown and #3 ranked single A Duluth Marshall which Duluth East won't play. However, I guarantee you Hermantown and Marshall will put up more of a fight then half the cities teams you squad has played. Keep it local and it will get you into the section finals. All three teams (Grand Rapids, Duluth East, and Cloquet) would represent section 7AA extremely well. Your comments reflect quite poorly on all of the good fans and players on the east side of the hill.

HUGE win by the T-Hawks right in the Hounds back yard and big for the Grand Rapids program as the title runs through East. The sleeper team of the section got a big win against a very good East squad...well done and well earned. :D :D :D

Cloquet has ventured outside of NE Minnesota plenty this year to play these so called "much bigger schools", so drop that arguement. Here are a few examples for you:

Cloquet vs Minnetonka (3-2 win)
Cloquet vs Blaine (4-2 win)
Cloquet vs White Bear Lake (3-1 win)
Cloquet vs Edina (3-2 loss)
Cloquet vs Stillwater (5-0 loss)
Cloquet vs Buffalo (5-0 win)
Cloquet vs Andover (8-1 win)

With the exception of Andover, you have six high caliber clubs on that list, some of which probably cut more kids than Cloquet kept. Its a numbers game and with enrollment the way it is in Cloquet, they will never compete on that level, but you can be sure they will on the ice.
Coach Esse has done a nice job getting these suburban schools on his schedule and you can bet a few more coaches will be knocking on Cloquet's door for next season. Cloquet's affiliation with the LSC is what causes them to add teams like Ashland & Proctor to their schedule. Perhaps someday they will go independent, but until then they have supplemented their schedule nicely with quality teams outside of the Arrowhead & Iron Range. If they are fortunate enough to make it to St. Paul, you can be sure they will represent Section 7AA with class, as most teams in this region would.

Wow! I did not see this coming...5 to 4 T-Chicks. Rapids has obviously ramped up their play in the playoffs. Nice win in a very tough venue.

Quit. You're only sounding stupid and you're giving East fans a bad name.

I personally enjoyed hearing about Colin Trachsels goal as I played in

the same tourney as his dad who was a great player in his day!

This was a great game and should be appreciated as such because it embodied the essence of the best in what Minnesota High School Boys Hockey is all about!

Thanks to both teams for the GREAT GAME !

Very well said im looking forward to next year when the East boys will have 10 or 11 seniors should be another great year...
east wont be playing 10 or 11 seniors next year, lets get real and be a little knowledgeable here. 1st ill say has rand ever had a team with 10 or 11 seniors? i will guess 6 seniors maybe 7 at the most next year.
rob probably wont even be there next year, lets call it a guess.
they will have solid core of players, but i cant stop thinking that next year will be a transition year. preparing for a few years from now. expecally after the low numbers this year.

Okay, fine, let's bring a little "knowledge" to the discussion here. :)

They had ten seniors on their last state championship team. Just to clear that up in case you were lacking some Hound Hockey history. Mike has had nine seniors on five different teams since 1990-91.

They had eight juniors this season. No idea which juniors on the JV team will move up, but I'm guessing at least two. I'll go out on a limb and say you'll see ten seniors on next year's roster. If the new transfer rule gets diluted or otherwise altered by the state legislature, all bets are off. Image
