Crookston Central fielded it's first team in 1949 playing a seven game schedule. They played Fargo Central (twice), Grand Forks St. James (twice), Red Lake Falls (twice), and Crookston Cathedral (once) that first season. The following year, in 1950 the Pirates entered district play for the first time and have fielded a team ever since.

This season has ended just as the previous 56 have, with a loss and no advancement to state. Good effort boys and we'll assemble the Fleet once again down the road.

Good game Park Rapids and good luck from here on out.

Crookston had a team way before that!

Try 1918 or thereabouts pinhead!

If you ever knew what you were talkin' about I'd fall over!

I've got pictures of those CHS teams!

My grandfather was the captain!

PR dominated those pirates until about 5 minutes left in the third. Lehrke did quite well....3 goals and an assist....not a bad game....Crookston faught at the end.....thats what the game looks like when its not in Crooks barn....domination at its best....those pirates were getting really dirty and it disgusted everyone who was watching....good sports!!

According to the announcers on the ROCK, Lerkhe undressed several Pirates tonight on his way to a hat trick. Evidently this kid is a very special player and has a bright future in hockey in front of him. Congrats on the win Park and good luck against the Warriors.

Lerkhe played a great game. Crookston gave it a good run in the last period. Crookston did seem to get a little cheap towards the end of the game though. Good luck next season Pirates.

Like I said in the "Up for Grabs" thread!

"Ketchup don't cut the Mustard"!

And the Pirates played Ketchup all year long!

Just like they did in this game!

At least they didn't give up! Image

I do not know who is right but I am very interested and would like to do some research and gathering of matterial, if you have any pictures of past teams, the rinks of old anything having to do with any Crox hockey including the cathlic shcool team, any news articles I would be very interested, expecially with the possibility of new rinks in Crookston and the old one to be possible torn down.

Please email them to wavez7@msn.com for now.

Thank you

Maybe Shanty got his info off some program!

I don't know!

The MSHSL doesn't cover the true complete history of Minnesota High

School Hockey and apparently doesn't care to either!

I should think that the library in Crookston may have some

information that you seek regarding the history of the sport in that town!

Do a little diggin' and 'pm' my handle and I'll see what kind of time I

have in regards to your request!

Right now it's playoff time and things are heatin' up!

Lot's to cover!

Later....

BS, no. Incomplete history, yes. My source says Crookston reinstated its program in 1949 after a seven lear layoff. As I was certainly not around then, I can only speculate, but the second war to end all wars may have been part of that layoff. The source also mentions Bob Strand as the Pirates coach in 1950. He I have met, and he was introduced as an individual who helped start (or more appropriately, restart) Crookston's program in the late 40's.

This same source also lists the following about the origins of other Section 8 HS hockey programs.
Hallock-1894
Roseau-1916
TRF-1916
Warroad-1945
RLF-1955, which make no sense if they played Crookston in 1949
Baudette-1933
EGF-1957

Any innaccuracies of the above years shall not be addressed to Irishmans Shanty, rather, they should be directed towards The 1996 Region 8A committee, the publishers of the source.

Well you didn't say that much in your original post!

I'll see if I can find a way to display those photos of the CHS team I

referred to.

They had gloves and breezers and more like sweaters than jerseys

and their sticks were made out of lead pipes!
(not)

Sticks were, of course, wood.

CHS embroidered across the chest area of their sweaters and the

goalie pads were lean to say the least!

A priest had much to do with getting organized hockey going in

Crookston and Bob Strand along with Serge Gambucci and then Bill

Sullivan carried the torch for coaching duties for quite a while.

Video Scout posted some great info on the subject back in '02 and '03

on Minnhock!

There's more but I've gotta run!

Are you retarded??? I mean normally i would not be so rude to ask but i was there and there is no way Crook outplayed PR. At the end of the 2nd period and then the last 5 min of the third Crookston owned but they didn't dominate anything more than that my friend. The only domination in the game was the Lehrke kid skating through Crookston's whole team making thier d-men look like fools.
