It was indeed 3-2 in OT.Purehockey wrote:Wayzata wins over EP I think it was 3-2

This was also the final. The game was a lot closer throughout than the final score would indicate. Shots were almost even for the game, and on more than one occasion Edina had the puck in front of BSM's net and just couldn't find a way to get it home. BSM probably had an equal number of near misses from in close, including some very nice, close in passing plays that didn't quite connect and a great shot by Trunzo from about 20 feet that I think banged off both the crossbar and the post. Both teams played very hard, the pace was very quick, and many of the attempted solo efforts led to turnovers and breaks going the other way.KeenObserver wrote:BSM 6 Edina 3 (with 1:00 left in the 3rd)
Even though BSM scored first, they looked tight at the beginning and didn't have their usual good flow, allowing Edina to take the lead at 2-1. BSM seemed to regain their confidence and made better decisions with the puck after tying it at 2-2. But the game wasn't really over until BSM got the empty netter at the end.
Congratulations to Edina on a great season.

After watching most of the Section 6AA games, and all of them starting with the Wayzata-Hopkins battle in the quarterfinals, I'm still amazed by the quality of hockey played by all of the top 5 teams. BSM, Wayzata, Eden Prairie, Edina and Hopkins all played tremendous and in my opinion deserved a better fate than having to battle it out for the one spot to represent the section at the state tourney. I know that others from outside of the section are sick of hearing about it, but if you had a chance to witness the semi's and final I think you would appreciate what I'm saying.boblee wrote:Final Score:

Also, congratulations to The Trojans on an outstanding tournament. The girls must be absolutely crushed about coming up just short, but they should be proud and feel very good about themselves, knowing they played their hearts out and gave the state's Nos. 1 and 3 teams all they could handle, and then some.
A 3 goal win by the "24th (or whatever) KRACH" team -- and a north metro/east metro final.
Can we finally put a fork in the "6AA is so powerful we have to realign all the sections" arguments? BSM is going to have to scramble against Roseville to avoid going 1-2.
TRUTH: no team was that dominant this year - not from any section.

This has been a post season of upsets, that cannot be denied. That said, if you think that NM is a better team than any of the top four 6AA teams, you don't have a clue.
NM beating BSM is as big an upset as there's ever been in girl's hockey. If NM played each of the top four 6AA teams again in the next few weeks, they'd likely lose all of them.
Now, just when you all think I'm ripping NM, I couldn't be happier they beat BSM. Gravel beating the team that forced him out is about as good as it gets. If the same thing happened in the NFL, we'd be hearing about it for weeks. It's a great story.

I will agree with your "TRUTH" to an extent, but the fact remains that Eden Prairie, Edina and BSM have (so far) had a combined record of 73-7-4. Four out the seven losses were to teams in their own section.SEMetro wrote:A 3 goal win by the "24th (or whatever) KRACH" team -- and a north metro/east metro final.

If you can identify any other section where the top three teams had a better record than this, please let us know.

I agree this was a miracle - I don't care if number 20 was the best girl on the ice last night, or that NM was much bigger, or that NM shot better (how about that slapshot goal?). I agree that all those 6AA teams would beat everybody anytime anywhere. 6AA is the best, 6AA is the best. Those cruddy kids from Brooklyn Park, Osseo, Fridley and Columbia Heights could not possibly be as good as the Wayzata and Edina kids.NM beating BSM is as big an upset as there's ever been in girl's hockey. BTW - why didn't the BSM coach pull his goalie much sooner when down by 2 and on the powerplay? Just asking - don't anyone force him out.
