first and foremost gabT your an idiot so stop posting cuz you really don't know what your talking about...as far as the game goes west was easily as chippy if not worse than marshall...just because blessed rick litchfield gets knocked on his butt doesn't mean marshall should get penalties called on them...marshall is tougher team with much more heart and desire to win...get some halfway decent officiating out there and the game is a ton better...the marshall coach is a very respectable man and has every right to talk to the ref when they suck....and it wasn't every play so don't even try it

I'm just going to assume gabT is a player from West because he is the only one who didn't see a problem with the officiating. I would like to know what anyone who doesn't have a bias opinion to West or Marshall thinks about the reffing in yesterdays game?
From where i was sitting it seemed the ref's didn't help Marshall out at all, I'm sure they deserved half or two-thirds of the penalties at most but not all of them.
Another thing no one could argue that if these two teams meet up in sections it will be a very intense game that could go either way. I'd say it would be decided by a single goal

By fairly BOTH ways, do you mean like the AL/Marshall game was called?IbleedOrange_07 wrote:thanks minnhock33 i would have to agree with the intensity and excitement of the game if the two teams met up in sections. and agian assuming the game is called fairly BOTH ways it could be a big one
I bet you thought it was really fair how Marshall didn't get whistled for a penalty until overtime. I'm sure you had a complaint about that too.
Pretty nice time to get that first PP opp, eh?
Don't see them in OT often, and AL capitalized and got the win.
And AL had what ? One or two called on them the entire game as well. And one was for complaining about the call.
Point is, Marshall and AL both have been criticized for being hacks against West, but yet, when they played each other, there was only a couple penalties and the game flowed smoothly. Interesting.
Can't we end this and say one more time that sections should be awesome?
Let's let it play out.

Marshall had 5 powerplays. Including one starting with 1:40 left in the game.a2anda10 wrote:Pretty nice time to get that first PP opp, eh?

I'm just trying to say that those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
Should be great come tourney time.
Since the top 4 are pretty much set, what does the rest of the section look like, and is there any chance of any upsets.
Puckhandler. The top 4 teams should all advance to the semi's. I really do not see a 5-8 seed pulling an upset. If East were to get some respectable goalie play they have a couple of skilled players and may be able to pull it off. Luverne also as they have proven it by beating Marshall, but I don't see that either
We have been waiting for East to get some goaltending all year and it hasn't happened so I dont know why it would magically appear in sections but I do agree that if it does happen an upset is very possible. Anybody that thinks the officials had anything to do with the outcome of the game on Saturday night is nuts. West was better than Marshall on Saturday night, get over it. Ibleedorange I know the exact play you are talking about when that kid caught litchfield and dropped him and that was a terrible call.
I don't disagree that West wasn't the better team on Saturday. I figured that the Marshall kid wasn't running the goalie but I didn't see the play. They were on the powerplay so I didn't see the point of running the goalie.
Minnhockey33 I agree with you that Marshall did deserve 2/3 of the penalties they got. I thought the Marshall coach has good reason to be upset with the refs.
When the Marshall player went down in the first period I thought he was hit directly from behind. There was talk heading into the season all over the state that they need to call more checking from behind. Refs have been making up penalties for players so they don't have to sit out 12 minutes or even get a check from behind. Since the check was from behind and injury resulted in it the player from West should have been kicked out. Could have played a big part in the game.

Ok... i agree with gabT for the most part. The marshall player did run through the west goalie in the third period. very unclassy. the reffing was a bit off but as people have said it wasnt so bad that it changed the outcome of the game. west dominated the play and marshall just didnt capitalized on their oppurtunities. they had a few chances on powerplay but west's pk was just too dominant for marshalls pp. marshall made a great effort and would definitally give west a run in the playoffs if they were to meet again. good luck to both teams.

from my perspective they were getting very upset because they werent putting their chances away... marshalls a good team who isnt used to losing due to their rather weak schedule thats all i'm gonna say about that.
playoffs:
Albert Lea - great goaltender in casanova with good leadership in walton and arendt. royce is a great young defender for them and their coaching is outstanding.
Mankato West - also great goaltending in trembley. first line is great with two players with 50+ points and the other with 40+. other two lines are decent and defense is decent. speed is on their side
New Ulm - pretty good team all around. lacks goal scoring like the other two teams but has great goaltending like the other two. known to be undisiplined but can easially be changed.
Marshall - works their bags off and gives 110%. goaltending decent but no stand outs. can hurt than in the long run.
Seedings: Al, West, NU, Marshall
Predictions: Al vs West
Possible: either one can be upset marshall did upset al last year... these two age groups for west and nu have been known to have bad blood.

No player from Marshall would deliberatly take a run at the goalie, he was checked into the goalie.
And I think it's funny how no one is saying anything about the two different times that Marshall's goalie was checked into the net.
And the other time when the player did stop, and sprayed snow onto the goaltender obvoiusly on purpose, it appeared there was an abundance of space the player couldve skated past.
These, in my opinion, are classless acts also.
And if you think about it, it can be a good thing there aren't stand out players. They don't depend on someone, they depend on everyone. That way it won't depend if one person is off their game, it depends on the team, because after hockey is a team sport. I don't think you can count them out at all.

agreed the west player spraying the goalie was lacking a bit in the class category.
disagree that wests pk is so amazing, marshall just doesnt have much scoring power as of lately.
disagree that its good for marshall to depend on their "whole team", dont get me wrong i realize that it is a team sport. but if thats what they're doing, its not working for them seeing as they dropped two of their biggest games of the year which everyone here seems to be convinced they could have won.

yes i agree that #27 was very disrespectful toward the goalie when he sprayed him. now for the other two "running the goalie" by west... 1. west player was checked in teh front of the net and marshall player pushed him down and was on top of him 2. the goalie may have gotten hit... both teams werent too fair that night, people more than likely noticed the west goalie getting hit because it seemed like it was diliberate and the goalies mask was off. both of these teams along with al and nu will be fun to watch. sections 07 will be amazing thats for sure. good luck to all teams.
C'mon people it is a hockey game. Let's quit the nitpicky BS. The game was a fast paced game and stuff is going to happen. None of the stuff seemed intentional to me on both sides. This was a big game for both teams and both teams played with alot of emotion. As far as #27 spraying the goalie there was a race to the puck. Probably the only other option for the West kid would have been to jump over the goalie. And to answer the question by slapnasty #27 was not the kid who charged the AL goalie down in AL.
It will be quite a Sectional tournament.

First of all when 27 sprayed the Marshall goalie, the goalie was atleast out to the hash mark and was still deciding if he was going to play the puck or not. Second of when Ricky Litchfield gets taking down its probably because there are not too many people in this section that can keep up. Third the marshall guy did run trembley. Fourth the reason a west player ended up on top of the marshall goalie is that that donkey number 3 (the kid who laid on the ice for 10 minutes then came back after 2 minutes in the locker room to play)from Marshall) tackled #2 from west into the goalie. the final thing is that West is the better team and showed this by using their speed.

there are plenty of people that can keep up with litchfield...walton, peterson, ...sorry to say but everyone thinks litchfields good because he can cherry pick and do stuff in open ice...yet anything physical he is on his a$$...hmm...some super star...and puckhandler...did i say the marshall AL game was reffed fair? NO! i said if it is fairly BOTH ways implying that Marshall can be just as guilty sometimes worse than anyone else...point is sections is going to be big and the REAL teams are going to get what they deserve.

Maybe West was the better team that night, but I'd say any of the top 4 teams can be the Best team on any given night. Therefore in my opinion, the only reason seedings matter is not to show which team is the best, but it is just the way to find out who plays who, because in the end, you're going to have to play the best team in the tournament whether they be seeded 1,2,3,4, etc.Hockeydude5000 wrote:First of all when 27 sprayed the Marshall goalie, the goalie was atleast out to the hash mark and was still deciding if he was going to play the puck or not.
