Holy Family / Waconia

Post by WayOutWest »

Does anyone know when the Holy Family / Waconia split is slated to occur? Is it contingent on the Waconia rink being built, or is it a "go" regardless? I don't know that Waconia has enough kids in the youth program to support a competitive H.S. team. Thoughts?

Allegedly, in time for 2007-2008. (Which would indicate that the split would happen at that time.) However, it appears there may be some unexpected delay in obtaining the up front cash to start the project.
This is at the root of the split issue, I think. I wanted to see if anyone had any more information on this.

What is the breakdown of players from each school on the team?

Is it close to 50/50 or does one school have a lot more players than the other?

My guess is that when there are enough players (about 30-35 in each schools) for both schools to field a competive team, they will split.

I don't get that feel for the situation. It is more like a "Waconia will break off as soon as they possibly can" deal. (Meaning, as soon as they have thier own ice sheet.) I believe the split is about 60-40, in favor of Waconia. Waconia has its own burgeoning youth hockey program, which is also in dire need of their own sheet. I believe both the youth program and the high school kids are anxious to be more independent.

Yeah about this, 11 of the 18 varsity skaters are from Waconia. It's sad that the Waconia doesnt want to put up a hockey rink, there basically a basketball town and always will be. Maybe in the next couple of years they will get a rink. IDK. There youth programs are growing in size and I think they have like 3 peewee teams.

Kids from Waconia on Holy Family varsity

Candon Honebrink , Captain
Robbie Smothers, Captain
John Shaw
Derek Earls
Josh Eiden
Chris Leivermann
Andrew Walter
Andrew Armit
Eric Aeling
Derik Noeldner
Cody Boll , injured
Ben Brettingen, injured
Kyle Rindahl

I dont think HF would be playing Varsity Hockey without these kids.

Oh, it's going to happen. It's just a question of whether it occurs next season, the season after..........or under unexpected circumstances, beyond that. The rink is already planned, and a sign is up for it, right across from Waconia high school. I believe the only snag, at this juncture, is getting another 500K in funding. (This is the major question, and the reason for the post.)
I agree that Holy Family would be sunk. Perhaps this is the case for Waconia too, in the short haul? I believe there is only one Waconia bantam team, and two Pee Wee squads in the Waconia program. That isn't a lot of kids to draw from, but the community is growing.
