What happens if this girls doesn't want to play at MN?
I am sure Feste's one year experience with Slominski could have some bearing on her decision, now that Slominski is at the U of MN.
MN might not be the #1 destination anymore for the best players. Other midwestern universities could have passed them up.
I hope that the best players do end up at MN, but I don't think it has the same pull that it once had.
Well said. I guess you hope that the best in MN still want to live that dream of wearing Maroon & Gold. I forget though that Wisconsin and others are pretty attractive options right now (whoi wouldn't want to play for the WI coaching staff?!?!?).
For all these reasons, I would hope that we'd start to see more "early commitments" to the U for the best players well in advance of their senior season. That, as it does for boys, may (re)establish where all the best players are going to go and may create/maintain a movement towards what has long been a model W Hockey program in the nation at the U.
I woudl think that Slomo woudl be a draw for players too as a former Ms Hockey, active Elite/National Level HS NDP coach, and also amazing player at the U too in her time. Plus, she coached a team at Kennedy that had more NDP players than any other team in recent history (6 P2 or Higher, 4 to Lake Placid, in one year!), coached at St. Olaf, @ SCSU, and now the U. Pretty amazing resume if you ask me!

This is fantastic news for the Gopher Womens Hockey program and the U in general. Jocelyne and Monique are both model student/athletes and could have gone to any number of schools. I tip my cap to the Gopher coaches and the U administration!
How do you spell hockey?

Re: Lamoureuxs pick Minnesota
IMO: Top Juniors in the Nation! Good JOB GOPHS!
Re: Lamoureuxs pick Minnesota
I'll enthusiastically second this sentiment. Great news. The verbal to Minny seems to have created something of a stir in the women's hockey world (college hockey forum). Almost seems as though some are upset with the girls' choice. Obviously that would not include me...or other Gopher fans.hotdog wrote:IMO: Top Juniors in the Nation! Good JOB GOPHS!

Maybe we can extend that a little with the addition of their teammate...THE top 9th grader (opinion) in the US. Here's hoping she wants to follow her current teammates (3) and older brother when the time comes.unbelievable wrote:Prediction: They'll hang two more national championship banners at SSM (four consecutive) before making a real run at four consecutive national titles for the Gophers.

These girls picking the gophers was a good choice for them. They will really spark this team when they arrive. They are strong, physical players who spend some time in the penalty box so you can bet that the gophers will be killing more penalties, but with their offensive presence and tenacity to go to the net and power through people is something this gopher team could use. With these girls the gophs will be hard to stop.
The twins from SSM are definitely high quality players. When a player comes out of SSM they are ready to play D1 hockey with the weight training they have done and the quality of competion faced But because of this I also believe that these players are close to being at the top of their game. While you take a quality MN HS player that has not been exposed to all of the off-ice training and most likely hasn't been exposed to the caliber of players that the SSM players. I believe that many of the HS players will actulally have a larger potential for growth and potential development at the next level. The SSM player will have a more immediate impact but that is not to say that after a 1-2 at the D1 level the HS player cannot reach and surpass these players down the road.
Re: Lamoureuxs pick Minnesota
I certainly won't disagree. The Lamoureuxs are players any / all D-I programs would be looking for immediate impact from, they certainly should provide that...and any SSM trained player may be, and prolly is ahead of the curve when compared to a product of Minnesota girls HS hockey. Still, you can't deny (and this is all I want to point out) that many players advancing to D-I out of Minnesota girls HS hockey do have major immediate impact for the various programs. I could look back and mention names but I'm pretty sure most here are familiar with many of the players I have in mind. For current examples one need merely look to some freshmen currently having excellent seasons in HE, at, or very near the top of their teams point production. Though I'm aware that Monique & Jocelyne could well exceed the accomplishments of those examples (I hope they do...kinda expect they will). Just wanted to give credit I feel is due to the many excellent players developed playing in the Minnesota high school system. If they ultimately surpass, or even equal the skill level of the SSM graduate...well, it's all good. One thing I notice is the overall skills, as well as numbers of players possessing those skills is increasing at a pretty rapid pace throughout D-I and it's becoming a bigger challenge to stand out...IMO.
