St. Cloud Cathedral vs Hermantown???

Post by Jerry Lee »

Are the rumors true that SCC and Hermantown are going to scrimage tomorrow night in STC??

I also heard that Nate Schmidt - a strong force, possibly top scorer for SCC is out for the rest of the season...

Any remarks on if SCC's state tourny shot is out the doors????

I'll say that no one will win because it's a scrimmage.

As far as Nate Schmidt. For SCC, their season doesn't solely rest on the return of Nate Schmidt. These mounting injuries (Durant and Schmidt) will be what hurts them in the long run. Schmidt is a great player and he will be missed, but so will Durant. I don't know the timeline for Durant's return, but when he returns I feel they will be back in contender form.

I heard Durant will be back - not to say when but I heard at least by playoffs!

With the injuries this team is facing - it really puts a damper on the momentum they had at the beginning of the season!

This sounds like a good scrimmage to stop by and see.

Many teams have injury issues about this time in a season. I haven't heard what Schmidt is suffering from, but I've heard Durant will be back.

Remember, this is a team that lost probably their top player when Crandell went to the USHL, but decided that they would overcome that. Then they lost a potential top player when French moved down to the metroplitan area. This team decided that thay would overcome that loss as well. CHS is as hard working and positive as any high school team has a right to be. They'll show up and give it their best, and if a few players get injured, they'll work through it.

If they hadn't lost Crandell and French, and/or had any injuries this might be one of the best teams in the state. As it is, they're fighting every week to be there anyway.

Schmidt could be back by/for playoffs possibly, and Hermantown scrimmages Tech and Cathedral tomorrow I believe.

The SCC-Hermantown scrimmage was pretty fun to watch. Decent play going both ways. Lots of 3rd and 4th line action as well as 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string goalies.

Hermantown has a good team and I'd say they had the upper hand in the scrimmage but by no means did they dominate.

They did a lot of special teams and things of that nature.

I think the final score was like 5-1 or something like that with Hermantown scoring a couple of short handed goals (a couple softies) against SCCs back up goalies.

The score was 1-1 until the starting goalies left. The game had a good pace, was clean, but the outcome was totally meaningless considering all the variables of a scrimmage. It was fun to watch Hermantown as they have a lot of talent and it was a new team for SCC to see. Overall, it seemed like a nice break for both teams from the grind of the regular season and practice schedule.

Hermantown coach told me the final score of the game against SCC was 7-1. Hermantown also scrimmaged SC Tech. Hermantown won that 3-2 with a goal in the last 30 seconds. I'm not sure how the Little Falls game turned out.

I doubt if Tech played their JV goalies or their 4th line much. CHS didn't look like winning was that big of a deal, but learning in a game situation was.

These scrimmages are meaningless except they allow teams to skate at a good pace and work on special teams against a quality opponet. It's a good break from the mundane of regular season practive. There was very little physical play, which was good, especially this time of year, and so the potential for injuries was minimized. Hermantown scored all but one of its goals against the JV goalies for SCC, and most of those goals were very soft. Overall, the pace was good and neither team dominated or controlled play. The score was 1-1 when SCC's starting goalie was pulled.

What this scrimmage showed is that SCC can definately skate with Hermantown.

Also, Tech had something like 30 guys on the bench in their scrimmage with Hermantown.

Actually, all 3 goals scored on TECH was on their 4th sophomore line. And Cashman, who has played the past 5 JV games was in net. Just to clear that up.

Could Tech be setting some kind of record for number of losses by a Class AA team to Class A teams?

The last two posters on this thread -- obviously Cathedral fans -- should worry more about their team than concerning themsevles with Tech. SCC is having struggles of its own. Tech is struggling this year, as all high school teams do. It's up and down depending on the mix of kids and the year. There are a lot of good teams out there, A and AA, and some really bad ones. Doesn't pay to get cocky before winning anything. Wait until you win something of significance before you spout off, just a suggestion.

Thank you for the brilliant insight. You need to understand the history of Tech and then you would get the humor being implied here.

Oh, I think I get it.

Cathedral fans are still sore over some dumb kid from Tech mouthing off after Tech beat SCC last year, and now the "mature" fan faction of SCC can't resist taking swipes at Tech whenever possible.

How brilliant.
