How does a team make the JGB State Tourney?

You have to earn a bid during your league playoffs. The Metro Hockey League usually gets 5 bids to state and D8 gets 2 and then there is a play-in game for the last bid in state. I believe in the Metro you have to finish in the top 12 to make it to playoffs and then they have a playdown to determine the 5 teams that will go to state.

Nice answer, but just to go a little more in depth the top 12 go into a regional playoff which is double elimination I believe if you make it to the championship and third place game you can go to state but if you lose one you are moved to the consolation side of the bracket where you need to win(consolation) to move on. This side normally houses the one northern team that won there playoffs up there.
I believe that is how it works, if I'm wrong correct me.
