Seems to me there was a goalie from Warroad back some years ago who ended up playing Juniors his senior year beacause of an import coming in to play net.

But for those of you who know who I am talking about he was a heckuva goalie going on to play DI and beyond if I am correct.
Must have been quite a few years ago because i can only think of two players who ever left Warroad early for juniors and neither of them were goalies and they surely did not leave because transfers had taken their spots.

Maybe you could clue us all in as to who this stellar tender was?

oh, Bob, he transfered this season, apperantly not before the cutoff that says you have to sit out of varsity action for the first half.

Jake Transfered after he was cut the week prior to the first game of the season in late November. I believe he started in Warroad on November 24th.

The Warroad goaltender that iwatchalotofhockey is refering to is Corwin Saurdiff who left his senior year to go play juniors at Waterloo when the Swedish exchange student Niklas Axelson showed up. Corwin later than went on to Northern Michigan and had a good career there.

Neither team has great goaltending but I'd like to see this go into overtime.

Bad Goaltending?

Post by Jack »

Roseau this year is deeper in goaltending than any other team in the state! Yes that is my opinion but ill bet a case of beer on it.

Senior Alex Bjerk....has been starting since he was a sophomore. Although I will admit he does not look as good as his past two years.

Senior Sean Biermiar...would start for most teams in the state, just came in at the wrong time

Senior Jake Vatsndahl...same as Sean, came up at the wrong time. He is a talent that is obviously able to start elseware in the state.

Sophomore Mike Lee...Roseau's future! Three games played this season, zero goals against, and 52 saves. Yes, argue they weren't against quality opponents but that is still 52 shots that have not gotten past him in his FIRST three VARSITY starts. I wish I had this kids youth stats. I know he backed at least two youth teams to state.

Thanks Bobcat, i remember watching both of those goalies. I didn't remember that Corwin should've been a senior when axelson showed up. Thanks for clearing that up for me, from what i do remember though, Axelson was the better high school goalie.

Not sure if Axelson was technically an exchange student. Initially he tried to be, but things didn't get done in time. To get full eligibility faster, I think someone may have become his legal guardian or outright adopted him.

At the time, Saurdiff was a Soph. He was good but a big hole was left when Chad Erickson graduated the previous year. Not sure if the stakeholders wanted to leave the '88-89 campaign in the hands of a pup. Thus enters Axelson.

If this wasn't the way it went down, it's what the section was certainly talking about then.

Axelson was ok, though he did pick the right game to really stand on his head. A 2-0 blanking of the Rams in the final. I'm sure Axelson's arrival had something to do with Saurdiff leaving early. No doubt in my mind.

The 89 Section final was the infamous "ice the puck" game correct? Roseau was heavily favored, Warroad got an early goal and just kept on icing the puck all night?

SB24,
You are correct. The game was played in East Grand Forks and Warroad iced the puck all night long. That was Lund-Gotziaman-Hites and the crews junior year.

Why coach King didn't come out and do the same thing the following Thursday night at the St. Paul Civic Center, I do not know.

Roseau was everybit as good as Jefferson that year. The Rams should have gone back to back in '89 and '90.

It wasn't a thing of beauty but it worked as Warroad couldn't go toe to toe with that Ram team. Steve Sabo (TR transfer) must have iced the puck 30 times that night for the black and gold.

The Rams beat themselves that night in '89 as they came out during warmups to have there pictures taken.
They wanted to look good more than they were focussed on hockey. 8) 8) 8) The Warroirs were working hard in warmups and looked a sweaty mess! And voila, Warriors won!

On paper the rams win this year, too. However, the game is played on ice and the warriors can't be taken lightly.

I can't wait to hear the excuses if Roseau loses.

I say Roseau wins 5-2.

I'm excited to see what Bruce Olson has to say on FSN. I know it may have made sense for his career, but how are the people of Warroad taking it. I know many Roseauites that wouldn't be happy if Cary Eades came to town.

About the only one not taking it well is Albert...pretty much everybody but the new "inner circle" is wishing he was calling the shots. I doubt the "hockey gods" would complain too much. Ollie has done OK but Dark Eyes is a professional hockey coach that has done nothing but win.

To have to look at all those banners day in and day out. The ones from the 90' when Eades took them all away from Bruce. You gotta do what you gotta do, career wise. But deep down thats got to piss him off just a little.
Ollie has done OK
Oliver is over his head. Roseau realized they had a good team pleeded to Bill and Andy to make sure Oliver doesn't screw it up this year. All he wanted to do was coach his kid. Thought this was going to be an easy cake job. My bet is he is going to be demoted after this year. Everyone knows who the real coaches are. He is not fooling anyone.

I would take Cary Eades in a second.

Lundy,
Take your whining to a different forum as it is getting very annoying. People are getting sick of you constantly nagging on the same thing in every thread. You haven't even seen a game all season so making it sound like you have is hurting your own credibility. Everyone knows this and thinks it is a joke. Move on and let the kids play, Refs ref, and coaches coach.

What??? You mean to tell me Lundy isn't the immortal hockey god I think he is? Your saying that all the posts that I've read from him, over and over, and printed and decorated my game room with, are not accurate? His knowledge of the game, his ability to ref, his mythical leadership, isn't to be trusted?

I suppose your gonna tell me that Coach Oliver is actually a good guy? a proven winner? A great motivator? I imagine you'll also say that the people of Roseau and Warroad that work in the 2 big plants aren't losers? That their actually hard working, good people that chose to work and live here because the realize what a great area it is to raise a family? Here I thought it was because they didn't try hard enough and work out all summer long preparing for the next hockey season?

What are we going to do Lundy? It seems like everything you've said has been a big lie? A joke? Where do we go from here?

I guess I'll just try to support the team, to appreciate all they do and the hours they put in, and I'll try to realize their just kids, playing a game.
Goodbye Lundy, I hope you see the light and change your ways, or better yet, just go away.

Mission accomplished....

The TRUTH always hits a nerve with the locals. Some people actually print this stuff out and bring it to "hockey central" with them to show their friends. I think that is funny. Some people in Roseau are full of BS. I am not. We will let them make up their minds. A couple people are mad at me. My feelings are hurt. I have never had anyone mad at me before. Usually it is about 8 or 9 thousand people. So if it is 2400 thats peanuts.

Believe everything that is on the internet. It is always true.

Don't think for a second that a bunch of high school buddies and I don't sit back and laugh at all this stuff.

You people need to relax.

I believe I was talking about Roseau and Warroad in my last post.

You must have nothing but time on your hands, if this is what life is all about for you Lundy??

Come on, don't act like you are something "special".

You're starting to sound like a broken record.......reminds me of a class room bully. Says all sorts of "garbage" to try get attention, get noticed, etc.

It's getting old.

Well said RamHockey.

I'm sure you have at least 2 people that are impressed with what you say Lundy. Get over yourself.
