St Thomas @ Hill-Murray 1-11-07
The Cadets of St Thomas (10-3-1) travel to Aldrich Arena on Thursday to face the Pioneers of Hill Murray in a must win for either team to be the champion of the Classic Suburban Conference. Last year when these two teams met in Aldrich Arena, the Cadets won by a score of 5-4 giving Hill Murray their only pre-sections loss. I was very surprised, but at the beginning of the season many were saying the Cadets would take the conference, but they have not done as well as advertised, while the Pioneers have. This could be a battle of goalies, with both Crandall and Phillippi coming off a shutout wins against conference opponents. What will happen on Thursday?

Well, at least AP's being realistic. I guess I figured out why he puts down St Thomas so much, because he's from Hill. Now just need to figure out why he's usually a jerk.
Yeah, St Thomas scored 5 in each meeting last year. Hill 8 and 5. Both games very high scoring.
I'm going with a 12 goal game.
St Thomas 7 (empty netter)
Hill Murray 5

I agree. I do think that St Thomas' offense is going to have to play the game of their lives or the defense is going to need to learn the fundamentals to win this one. Crandall is a great goalie and has proven that time and time again, but the best goalie gets scored on with no help. If St Thomas' defense was as good as their offense and their offense as bad as their defense, I'd say St Thomas, hands down, in a close low scoring game. But with lacking defense, it's going to be tough. I will be there watching, and hopefully it will go my way, but either way, hopefully it's a good hockey game.
Hill is in a different class, they are private and are a representative of the CLC, so whenever they aren't playing St Thomas, by all means, do well. (Plus if they do well otherwise, if St Thomas wins, that's good

STA is going to have to play awesomely well to pull it off. I think that they can, but they need to play much much better than they have the past five or six games. HM is an awesome team, and STA can be also. HM has been much more consistant this year though. We shall see what happens. I think it will be a close game.

Oh, AP thought these were supposed to be joke predictionsHShockeywatcher wrote:Well, at least AP's being realistic.
... considering the STA ones... including the above
... plus seeing the name of the joker starting this thread.
However, if AP must be serious:
St Thomas 0 (empty box score)
Hill-Murray 18 (points from 18 different players).
Crandall, like his dad, is a great goalie,
but, also like his dad, made a poor choice of high schools.
AP will cheer with the HM Crandalls instead!

Important game for the Pioneers. They played well against good competition over the Holidays and since then have dominated weaker conference opponents. STA should provide a nice test. Both teams are pretty much the only teams to contend for the conference this year. Given Roseville's loss to Cretin over the weekend, Hill needs to continue stacking up the wins to secure the top seed. I'll say HM wins 5-3 (en).
Both teams lost their best player to USNDP this year.
Hill seems to have recovered where STA isn't quite as re-stocked. STA is a strong A program that will have trouble sticking with Hill this year even though everyone wishes they would. Hill will look like the better team and walk away winners...
H-M 5
STA 2
HM is at least a six point favorite.
Pioneers will more than cover the spread.
Although in no way true, I think you meant "six goal favorite". This is hockey buddy, they score goals. And if you actually did mean points, in a high scoring game you can get more points and lose the game.

Dont worry pioneerpride guy. The Raiders from CDH will beat up on the public pagans so our brothers from HM can get the seed they need.
I know Sparlimb was pleased with what he saw at Highland last Sat night.
But as far as this game goes, STA needs to beat somebody.
Its great to talk about how good this kid is and how great the coaches are and on and on.
But beating up on Sibley, Simley etc. doesnt mean squat. Not if you get pounded by CDH and lose to Brainerd.
This is a chance for STA to gain a little credibility.
Maybe that will spark the Cadets. It hasnt yet.
