Yes indeed, but as a result have little info. to back-up their "ranking" - lots of hand-waiving and QED sort of approach...

My issue with QRF is the weighting of classes. I can go along with some sort of weighting but not based on class, especially since at least 3 of their top 10 teams are in class A had they not opted up.

Agreed - here's the overall - when you look at it this way, I don't know that it's really any "better" than KRACh or voting, but then again I'm biased...:

QRF rankings arent worth the paper they are written on. Starting with EP being ranked 4th. Any poll that has them ranked less than #1 is wrong. To have Roseville at number 12 is a joke also, they are top 5 easily. Also not sure how any legitimate poll can have stillwater as number 17. They are definitely a top 10 team. Just my humble opinions.

I mostly have issues with some key assumptions that are being made by QRF.

1) That any Class A team is weighted to be weaker than AA

2) That score differential is an accurate representation of strength of any two HS teams when coaches have/don't "score control" all the time, in blow-outs, etc.

What exactly is it about this system that has the ranking impossibly skewed towards northern/outstate teams? CEC and GRG are way too high, as are all the northern A teams. It must be a serious defect in the system. This is more whacked out than the Pioneer Press rankings.

I would be curious as to how they figure out these rankings. It seems like H2H is low in their factoring. A bit puzzling I must say.

You probably are right! The Northern teams shouldn't be included in any Hockey Rankings or Polls. In the north, they actually play a game that has 3-periods, 40 players, handful of coaches, and Fans. They get together and compete, the team that puts this rubber thing in a net the most wins. Thats how they figure out who is the better team.

The Metro area can continue on playing a Rankings Game every week, and compared stats, player profiles, Polls ,etc. Then leave it up to non-playing hockey analysis to tell them who won the game and where they are Ranked.

It's only a game, usually a physical confrontation, Not a Paper Chase!

Actually if you read through the forums here many of the Northern teams' boosters talk a lot about rankings, as much or more than fans of the Metro teams do. Nothing wrong with that - it's fun to speculate, second-guess, and chat about all things related to the girls' game!

Yeesh! Wound a little too tightly, are we? But yes, to make it clear to IRangers and Duluthians, everyone in the 'Metro area' is against you.
Right now we're all writing our state reps to make sure they vote against funding the DECC remodeling. Then we'll throw darts at our Rudy Perpich pictures and cook our Jeno's pizzas 3 minutes too long to make sure the crust is burnt. We've been trying to run McHale out of town for years. Anything to stick it to those damned 'northerners'.

QRF "Formula" described here

From the site:
"The Quality Results Formula (QRF) was created to try and rank teams from different parts of the state. I won't go into a lot of detail about the formula, but will give you an idea of how it works.

Each game is given an individual QRF (iQRF) based four things: 1) win or loss, 2) opponent wins, 3) Class differential between the teams, and 4) margin of victory (or defeat). Logically, the more you win by, the more wins an opponent has, and the higher your opponents Class is, the higher your iQRF is for that game.

When all of a team's iQRF's are added together and divided by the number of MN games played, you come up with a team's QRF.
*Only MN vs. MN games count.

This number is then compared to other teams in the state to come up with an overall ranking." END

Now, this site seems to apply the same formula to all sports plus boys & girls equally. It's a fair assumption that there may be some statistical anomalies in girls hockey that make it different from say, boys basketball, but I'm not an expert. Looks like a basic strength of schedule formula with a little bit of tweaking by the author. Also applies some class differential mods that will particularly affect girls hockey.

Due to a low number of samples, one upset will ripple across the board. Not that any of this matters and I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Fortunately they play the game on the ice, not on paper. Fun to argue though. :)

  Just the response i was looking for! Alittle lite humor in a thread that some take too serious.
Thank you!
(I think we all sent Jenos' pizza rolls south years ago)
