I went back and read a lot of last years board, what happened? That was such a great board for section 1A. I think my favorite part was during sections, the before/during/after was really interesting, especially with Marshall's success through the end of the year. Just wishing it could be as interesting as last year...

Here's a photographers site where you can view a slideshow of the Dec. 9th Marshall (7) vs Austin (1) game. Some great shots.

I seem to remember a fan from Austin doing this last year I believe.
The newspapers are trying to do a little better job of covering hockey in 1A it seems. Don't be afraid to post info from games when you have it. It's the best way to keep the interest flowing on here.
As goldenjet says, this is turning out to be a quiet year so far. Hopefully that will change as the teams see more of each other in Jan. and Feb.

Peterson graduating from Austin quited things down some, BigBubba04 isn't around either this year and they were a couple of posters who did their fair share of writing. last year was a really great year as there were 6 really good teams that could beat anyone in the section on any given night and I don't think that's the case this year. Austin and East are way down, New Ulm is struggling a bit too. Marshall is good, so is West and Albert Lea, but the depth across the section isn't the same as last year.

I also wonder if the change in servers have left some of the 1A people out in the cold and they can't find the new board.

All they need to do is type in Minnhock.com and go to and click Mitch Hawkers message Board and click MN and they're here!

Almost the same as it ever was.... :o

Of course, if they don't know that they may never get here!

If they go to the old EZBoard, there is a fairly sizable link at the top of the page pointing folks to the new Forum, so I'm not sure why this would be a problem for anyone. It's a pretty straight line, much like most of the roads in 1A land. :P

Ok so it's easy, I used to jump through Ram Hockey's site myself so there are a lot of ways to find this place. One other thing that may hold things down a bit is some schools have firewalls that prevent stuff like messageboards and IM's to work on school computers. I know yahoo games don't work at my son's school because of this.

Marshall/Redwood game was 2-1 Marshall going into the third. Absolutely dominated start to finish by Marshall but just could not put the puck away until the third, Redwood's goalie played a good game.

AL vs. Faribo

Post by grafmaster »

AL - 3

Faribo - 4

AL after the first was down 2-1, the lone AL goal going to Bowman

After the 2nd AL was down 4-1

In the 3rd they made a late run with about 4 min left with goal by Hegwood, then another tacked on by Arendt. There was some extreme pressure on the 6 on 5 at the end but just couldnt get it done.

AL/Faribault

Post by Puckhandler »

Faribault 4
Albert Lea 3

Albert lea had 15-20 penalties, Faribault had about 7. A.L. seemed to be short the whole third period and still climbed back from 4-1 down to pull the goalie and have a real good chance not go into the net.

Faribault dominated most of the game, shots must have been about 50-25.

Casanova played very well.

A.L. now is 7-5, and all five losses are by 1 goal or by 2 goals with an empty netter at the very end.

Seems to me they need to find some consistent scoring and play, or the stretch run will be a short jog.

WOW, cry yourself to sleep. If the other team is cheap and the refs are bad , that should make you want to win even more. The only way to take care of it is to put the puck in the net and get out of there with the win. Things will not change until head coach nystrom starts getting his players to use there skills and not try to be big bangers and take stupid penalties. Focus more on the skills and know when to play the puck and when to play the body. The new rules have cleaned the game up from the nhl all the way down to the squirt levels. The game is alot more fun to watch when it's not the GOON style that Albert Lea is taught. Ask yourself how many games have they lost due to players in the box.

ZAMBONI,
How are you supposed to put the puck in the net when your best players are sitting in the penalty box because of "interference" penalties. The new ruled have ruined the game. I'm not just talking about penalties. What about that last play. Give me one good reason why that faceoff came outside the zone. The goalie covered it. You don't think those boys wanted to win? Look at what they did 5 on 5

You teach the players how to play by the new rules. Sticks down ,no hooking, no holding. You teach them to skate harder. You have to break there old habits. This will not happen until the coaches take control and change the system.

Before the game, some Faribo players were shooting pucks at the AL players and taking their legs out during warmups. When the AL captains went to confront the refs on the issue, the refs called the captains liars.

The albert lea kids have never been taught the correct way to give a check. Shoulder to shoulder and hip to hip will not get you in the penalty box. There is nothing better than a hard clean check. Coach nystrom wants his players to be big hitters but does he teach proper checking? Also if your doing all the hitting and not playing the puck your going to run out of gas in the 3rd period. I have seen many times players will leave there feet for hits, push there hands over there heads, and check with there elbows to the heads and this will get you in trouble.
