Re: Battle of the Roses!
I think once it got to be 2-0, they assumed they could just go out on the ice, and things would fall into place? Too much individual stuff though for sure, not moving their feet, all the "no - no's".Ram Hockey wrote:Hockeyfan1,
That is a very good assesment although you gave them a little more credit than I would have. I thought they only played about 9 minutes of the first period and once they got the 2-0 lead they quit skating and moving the puck. Once Rosemount went ahead they kicked it back in gear again but not a very impressive effort. None the less I guess you need to look at the good points in that it was a tight game and they responded when they needed to but that isn't always going to happen. They need to pick things up for the second half of the season.
You are right, it wasn't close to their best effort.....but I do like how they responded late in the game and finally played "Ram hockey". - (Trying to take something positive from the game I guess).

Didnt see it but can only guess it was ugly
Well this is probably why a lot of people feel they are over rated. Last 4 games have been ugly. But bottom line is they are winning ugly or not any win is a good win I guess.
Maybe a case of playing to the level of the competition???? Dunno just a thought

They have the talent, so I don't believe they are over-rated. But you're right, they are finding a way to win.....coming off the holiday tourney probably didn't help matters. Not making excuses, but those games were relatively easy.......You might be right, and they played to the level of competition.

That still doesn't answer the question Morris!

that was the ugliest hockey game i've seen in my life. Both teams just gave the puck away, there wasn't much for spectactular plays in net, and there were 31 penalties, mostly in the last 5 minutes.
I would really hope that Rosemount doesn't make the trip up next year. They have no class or respect for the game. Between hitting players after they score, after the game, and a few of them clearing the bench to join a fight this team needs something.
I also noticed that their coaches, when they were down by a couple goals near the end of the game, were laughing when their guys were doing the most idiotic things i've ever seen kids do on skates.
Roseau wasn't perfect either. They were sluggish and retalitory. All in all a very disappointing night for this hockey fan.

Moorhead would have pounded that team. Does Roseau lack a killer instinct? I think they might be a little "soft." As a top team in the state this game should have been a blow out.
People "baby" the Rams too much. "You guys are so good. So much talent. Your in the top 5. You guys are the best. It's only 1 game. You'll come back. Just a few bad bounces." Quit making excuses for their poor performance. I think the Christmas Tourney might have went to their heads. Guess what guys you beat 3 no name teams. The Rams have not really been tested. They lost to Moorhead. Beat a couple mid ranked A schools. Other than that. What have they done. Maybe Roseau will move back to Class A when they figure out they can't beat Moorhead.
"Don't tell me what your going to do. Show me what you have done."

They do need more of a Killer instinct I'd agree. Excuses or not, it's what's been happening Lundy. Christmas tourney......as I said, did not help them, and probably hurt more than helped by a wide margin.
But, why rip the team apart?.....they still only have 1 loss. Can they improve? Of course, they aren't close to 100% yet.
Move back to Class A? I'm hoping that was your attempt at sarcasm......Moorhead "can" be beat, and after this year......is looking less and less promising for them.
Moorhead=12 pointer Roseau=Giant 10
Speak in ROSEAU terms....
The 12 pointer is struting around with a giant herd of young virgin does. The Giant 10 was caught sniffing around the heard. There was a huge fight. The 12 pointer humiliated the Giant 10. He retreated into the deep woods. There they praised him for standing up to the 12 pointer. The little chipmunks and birdies told him he was great and he was grand. How he would get him next time. But in reality all of the skunks, wolves and raccoons stood with the 12 pointer and laughed because they had humiliated the Giant 10. Bound and determined the Giant 10 was pissed off and looking for some action. He ran into the field of virgin does and grabbed the 1 st one. When out of the woods ran the 12 pointer......

I've always been a Roseau fan, but some of you are saying that Rosemount had terrible class and I can't say much different for Roseau during this particular game. Who remembers in the second period when a Rosemount player went for the puck with the goalie and a Roseau player came from behind clearly after the whistle when the Rosemount player was by the boards and crosschecked him from behind into the boards. Classless?
I think what clearly changed the pace of the game is when the blind refs called a penalty when a Roseau player tripped on his own in the middle of the ice. Roseau ended up scoring on the powerplay. Most of you should be able to admit that the refs werent at all fair during the third period, in fact, I dont think one penalty was called against Roseau that werent quincidentals and there were plenty that should have been.
Anyway, the rams need to pick it up, they havent been playing too well the last few games. I know they have it in them, they might just be caught up in the media and the state rankings.
GO RAMS!!

Roseau - Rosemount game
Goal30,
I'm not going to get into a big war over this but do want to point out a few descepancies in your posting.
1. You are correct about the Ram player hitting the Rosemount player after the whistle after the Irish played slashed the Ram goaltender but I'm guessing if he does the same thing in your game tomorrow night against Apple Valley he will get the same response from them as well or for that matter any other team. Players tend to stick up for their goaltenders. The same thing happened with 24 seconds left in regulation when the Ram player that scored got ran after the goal.
2. Penalties in the third period were Roseau 7 and Rosemount 9.
3. NO Roseau goals were scored on a power play.
4. Believe me there is NEVER any favoritism towards Roseau when it comes to Warroad officials doing a Roseau game but in this case I thought they did a good job. Even on the penalty shot they called AGAINST Roseau which you didn't mention was a good call.
I don't disagree with you that Roseau weren't perfect saints in this one but do believe that Rosemount was the instigator with the late hits/slashes after whistles. With that being said I do with the Irish the best of luck the remainder of the season. It was a unfortunate situation for both teams.

I agree with you on a few of those points. To me the officials did a good job for the first two periods, it just seemed in the third period after that call when the roseau player slipped in the middle of the iced by himself (clearly) they called a penalty which changed the whole pace of the game and gave the momentum back to Roseau when they scored on the powerplay. And I never said anything about Rosemount getting a powerplay goal, or if I did, I was talking about the one Roseau got on Rosemount.
And the Rosemount player didnt really slash the goalie, I was on that side of the rink and Bjerk pretty much covered it up the same time the Rosemount's player's stick got in there, it wasn't a slash, it was more of a push. But it doesnt matter, the Rams won so its all good.

One more thing!
Well, Maybe a push on the first one but Bjerk's Mask flew off on the second one. I never said anything about Rosemount getting a power play goal in which they did but Roseau didn't have one as they went 0 for 9 on the power play. Rosemount went 1 for 6. Like you said however it doesn't matter. Good luck against Apple Valley.goal30 wrote:I agree with you on a few of those points. Re: One more thing!
The Rams weren't "Saints" as mentioned, but Rosemount instigated most of the rough stuff (IMO). Anytime you slash another teams goalie, then the next period "run the goalie" and his helmet goes flying off, you are only asking to get hit in retaliation....any team is going to do the same as Ramhockey stated. The cheap shot after the Roseau goal again, low blow....instigated another small "brawl"...again, you are going to stick up for your teammates.Ram Hockey wrote:Well, Maybe a push on the first one but Bjerk's Mask flew off on the second one. Your #3 took yet another cheap shot at one of our 4th line guys after the buzzer had sounded....
Reffing? All year the reffing has been the same. Almost everything is getting called as a penalty, it's past the point of ridiculous.
All the penalties are for the good of the game. Try and eliminate the big, slow, clutch and grab style of player. Speaking of that kind of player. What is the deal with Nick Oliver. He is exactly the type of player the game is trying to eliminate. How can he get ice time on Roseau's 2nd line? It's no secret that he has "football" feet. Any relation the stick boy Scott Oliver. hmmm. Scott must have some serious dirt on someone in the St. Cloud program. Can you say summer workout program. Work on your footwork kid. One summer of agility drills and you might get on Roseaus top line.Reffing? All year the reffing has been the same. Rosemount was the most classless team I have ever watched. Roseau was not very good either but to cross check a player who is BARELY even celebrating, so its not like he was "show boating" either, is terrible. Rosemount needs maybe a little of Dick Johnson in their program and then maybe come back up for a HOCKEY game, not a battle royal!
Roseau is now 12-1 and getting a lot of crap flipped towards them. WHY? ONE LOSS? ARE WE BABYING THEM? NO. How many state champion teams have actually been undefeated in the history of minnesota high school hockey LATELY? I realize Eveleth had many teams undefeated years ago. Warroad, thats one....i believe Red Wing maybe went undefeated a few years back also. Anyone else in the past 10 years? I cant think of any. There were a lot of 1, 2, 3 loss teams though. Roseau has one ultimate goal and that is on March 1st in Thief River Falls, and that is to beat Moorhead. Last game, Moorhead was definitely the better team but i think Billy and Andy have made sure that these boys will be ready on January 23rd, at least in the conditioning category. After the measuring stick game on the 23rd, then thats when Billy and Andy will really kick in the "championship conditioning"

Summer Training was SOFT.
They started the season SOFT.
After they lost to Moorhead. They went on a road trip to the range. 2 G 16 GF and 0 GA. There was a glimmer of hope. Hey they are finally playing like a hockey team. Since then they have been sitting at home and getting paised by everyone.
"You guys are so good. So much talent. Your in the top 5. You guys are the best. It's only 1 game. You'll come back. Just a few bad bounces. You'll get 'em next time."
Sqeaked by Bemidji. 8 of their wins are against no name teams. Those are gimmie wins. Have not played many road games. Lets see how good they are when they get off of mommas nipple.
Sat. Jan. 6 East Grand Forks Away
Thur. Jan. 11 Warroad Away
Tues. Jan. 16 Grand Forks Red River Home
Fri. Jan. 19 Bemidji Away
Tues. Jan. 23 Moorhead - 6:00 PM Away

Lundy,
You seem to claim you know everything about this team?
If you were actually at the rink you wouldn't be saying that this team is being "babied", and excuses being made all the time.
When they play well, the fans appreciate the skill. When they don't play to the level they are capable of, the fans talk about it. When they make stupid plays, or make mistakes, people talk about it. Give Roseau a little more credit than you are.
Is there talent on this team? YES. Is it wrong to appreciate talent?
I think you're allowing some past "bad blood" get in the way of drawing a line between criticizing, and being down right nasty. If people want to think Roseau is a good team, who cares!
Pretty easy to make all these accusations / comments on a computer.

Funny how you reply to it.Pretty easy to make all these accusations / comments on a computer.
My career started in the accusation/comments on a computer while typing an unnamed student in the yearbook for "Fudge Packing" his way through high school. Printed in all year books. Terrible unfortunate story. You would think I would learn from it.
