Angry Protestants
The easy answer to your flawed question with the flawed premise is that the Catholic school defines itself as Catholic; moreover, its Catholic majority of Catholic students and Catholic athletes, regardless of faith, are enjoying a Catholic education by Catholic faculty who share Catholic values which come from the Catholic Church and Catholic Faith.
The tougher question is: "Why do you allow yourself to be consumed by hatred?"

A man can only stuff his mouth with popcorn so long...
Can somebody check and see if AP is back from beyond the deep end?
Racism? Religeous Intolerance?
Backtrack AP, or your off my Christmas/Hanukkah/Quanza/Ramadan list.
Clamping down on O.E. affects privates in fractional amounts. And catholics less than that. Racism is beyond a stretch.
Zamman, your right in this thread. From the beginning it turns out.

It does get a little edgey at times but all contribute.
I am looking forward to the poster who opines: that not only would Jesus not go to Catholic school but wouldnt go to Mass either. And, if He did, He wouldnt recieve Holy Communion.
When I left the CDH vs Park game it was 5-0 Radahs.
Any other Catholic scores to report?
I wonder if Jesus would go to a Catholic school hockey game.

Well, just when you think you have heard it all , SEMinn chimes in with:
"Jesus wouldnt go to Catholic school.'
Is that what I said? Or did I say this?
What would Jesus do? Stay at with His hometown team and play with the kids he grew up playing with or jump ship the minute he did not like the coach, team mates, etc?
At least quote me properly. Jesus would go to a Catholic school had his parents chosen that education for him as a child. Had they decided he should attend a public school and still be Catholic (which most Catholics do), he certainly would not have left Peter and crossed the river to find a better hockey team. "Sorry Peter, the Romans have a better Army, so I think I am going to skip town and leave you to do the good work. Try not to worry about it. I am sure when the Roman soldiers come they will have me stationed somewhere in Gaul so I won't be charged with cutting your head off! Oh, and all those lessons about loyalty that God taught you through me - that was just stuff to make you think I was the Messiah!"
You missed the point entirely, which is not surprising since you have such a narrow mind. Don't give all Catholics a bad name by spreading your hatred in the world. Thank you and have a lovely Advent/Christmas season!

Giving AP the night off... this is heartfelt.
Neutron, Zamman, et al, READ the proposal. You should get angry. I'm not talking about hating anyone; that is what supporters of these kinds of proposals do.
Hill-Murray would only be allowed to draw students from Maplewood, though most of their kids live in the White Bear to Woodbury areas! I doubt they would be able to fill even one classroom let alone field a hockey team.
So, say you go to St. Pius X Catholic grade school in White Bear Lake. HM is expensive. You and your parents may have to save up for years in order to attend. Maybe you have to wait a year or two before you get in. PENALTY!
Say, instead, you go to one of the St. Paul Public schools overrun with gang violence. You get lucky and have a chance to go to a faith-based school next year. PENALTY!
Anger is okay as long as you don't turn it into hate or desire someone getting hurt. I am angry with people who hate, in this case freedom (religious or otherwise).
It's also okay to point out right from wrong. I just believe in God and freedom and kids' futures. Others believe in making their choices for them.
Are you really friends if FORCE is the only way to get friends to play together? If so, then why not FORCE your friends to make your same choices when it comes to college, employment, and church, too?
The League has really shown its bigotry on this one.

On the other hand, if a family desires to have there child attend a school other than the district they currently live in, they are FREE to move wherever they choose.Ankles Pierre, Jr. wrote:Giving AP the night off... this is heartfelt.

But it is NOT just for private schools. The rule change also applies to PUBLIC SCHOOLS as well. If someone is attending Rogers/Zimmerman and decides to open enroll in Elk River, they would also have to sit out a year. It is to put a clamp down on all of the changing of schools that are NOT for education purposes, but for athletics/activities. My assumption is that anyone who transfers has to sit, so that would also include Debate, One Act Play - since they are sponsered by the MSHSL!
Now let me ask you this, when was the last time you read about someone leaving Lakeville South to join the top notch DEBATE team at St. Thomas?
Never. I thought so.
This is not an attack on religion - this is an attack on the "Me, Myself, and I" people of the world. An attack on parents who teach their kids that the ONLY thing that matters in my own self-interests, and not the good of the community.
My wife went to a private Catholic high school. Her family had an income level of less than $25,000 and they found the tutition. If a family is truly going for the religious education or the good private school education, they will have made up their mind by 9th grade. It is that simple. If I want my son to attend college at Gustavus or St. Olaf, I better PLAN AHEAD right?
Kids in White Bear, Stillwater, and Burnsville can attend Hill Murray. They just can't transfer w/out a penalty once they have enrolled in another school in 9th grade and then transfer to Hill to play hockey in 10th grade.
All it means is that the private school hockey coaches will have to start recruiting at Pee Wee camps!!!

Just make up your mind about your future before the ninth grade, or else! PENALTY!
SEMN: Since you are the Catholic expert on the true heart of Jesus... Why would Jesus be all for the League putting obstacles in the way of children coming to Him/attending Catholic schools? I seem to remember Him saying, "Let the children come to ME," not "tell them to finish high school at the public school first."
SEMN: Since you are the better representation of all things Catholic... Why wouldn't the Catholic schools embrace this Catholic school area limiting policy like you, the good reasoning Catholic?
SEMN: Since you are a much more loving Catholic than Packerboy... Why don't you just forgive his quoting your position that "Jesus woudn't go to Catholic school" when you really meant to add, "unless and only if His parents made the choice for Him prior to HIS ninth grade." Is that not splitting hairs with poor Packerboy?
AP is back!

No Catholic school is limited in area. Again, Holy Angels is not limited to people who live in Richfield. ANYONE may attend Holy Angels and again the transfer rule does not apply as long as they start 9th grade there. Anyone can make the choice to attend Catholic school at anytime. So if a really great hockey player in Eagan suddenly wants to become Catholic and get a Catholic education, he can attend Holy Angels, but would have to sit out a year of hockey - big deal - a small price to pay to find Jesus right? The question is what is more important - the Catholic education or hockey? What would Jesus say about that smart guy?
Do you honestly believe that ALL of the hockey players transfering to the Catholic schools are going for the Catholic education? Do you honestly think ALL of them will maintain a life of Catholicism once they finish high school?
Your argument is NOT about Catholicism at all. Your concerns are not about Catholicism. Be sure to attend Mass tomorrow and think about someone besides yourself. I know I will. Peace be with you this season.

Again, AP, that was the quote. Where does it say I think people should not attend Catholic school? I could have just as easily said: Jesus would not have left Thief River Falls for Moorhead because he would have stayed with his friends - which is truly what I think He would have done and I am sure you do to if you have read enough Scripture.
This is a transfer debate, not a Catholic school debate. This rule should not have any impact on private schools, speficially Catholic schools as long as there is a market for a true Catholic education. I guess now if hockey is the most important thing in a family (very sad if it is), a family can move to the area they want to attend. This rule is not about hate - but a reaction to reverse the "ME" and "I" that has infiltrated society and TEAMs!
For once the MSHSL got it right!!! Now if they would just reverse themselves and go back to a one class hockey tournament!

Sometimes you feel like a Nut... but 3 Nut posts in a row?
Not only does Nut (Nut, the Catholic beyond reproach) say,
"Jesus would not be found in Catholic school after 9th grade,"
but now Nut adds,
"PUBLIC schools are the BETTER medium for Catholic education about finding JESUS."
P. S. Why does Nut's Saintly Love for AP feel more like HATRED?
P. S. S. Since Nut is the better representation of all things Catholic... Why wouldn't the Catholic schools embrace this Nut's Catholic school area limiting policy like Nut, the good reasoning Catholic?
From the Star-Tribune and MSHSL:
"The proposal also would institute attendance boundaries for private schools….
"the attendance area for a non-public school shall be defined as the same attendance area as the public school in which the non-public school is located....
"This is uncharted water, telling private schools that they must have attendance areas just like public schools. The MSHSL could ram this thing down the throats of the private schools, because the 20-member board of directors includes only one person who represents private schools and the 48-member representative assembly includes only six people from private schools."

Why is it jumping ship? My Kids have attended private Catholic school from preschool on. The reason my kids played in the local youth association surely wasn't out of loyalty, but because they were forced to.
If STA, CDH or any other private school was allowed to operate their own youth program we'd "jump ship" in a second as would many, many others. You can't force people to be loyal.
It sounds as if the only "Me," "Myself," and "I" person on this board it you.
Why would you possibly care where anyone lives, sends their kids to school, public or private, or for what reason? Why is it any of your concern? Could it be so your kid/team will have a better chance of making it to the X?

Minnesota Hockey is the statewide governing body of amateur hockey in Minnesota and an affiliate of USA Hockey. Member associations are not affiliated with any school, public or private. If you choose not to join this organization, fine. Set up your own hockey organization. Make your own rules. Certify your own Refs. Play other teams within your hockey organization. Whose stopping you?hockeyfamily wrote: The reason my kids played in the local youth association surely wasn't out of loyalty, but because they were forced to.

Not cherry picked version
A MSHSL committee spent three months studying the issue and in November recommended sweeping changes. Currently, athletes can change schools once and be eligible immediately, while a second transfer (without a change of residence) means the athlete is ineligible for the first 50 percent of any sports season. Under the proposed changes, any transfer without a change of residence will result in one year of varsity ineligibility.
The proposal also establishes attendance areas for private schools, coinciding with the attendance areas of the public school districts in which private schools are located. For athletes to be immediately eligible upon transferring to a private school, they must live in that attendance area. That part of the proposal has brought objections from private schools.
The proposed changes to give "boundaries" to private schools is an attempt to make the transfer policy equitable with public schools. If you can't transfer to another public school without penalty, you shouldn't be able to transfer to a private and become immediately eligible.

First of all Jesus had more important things to do on this earth, than play hockey,...And thank GOD he did them. Secondly, the the closest thing to Jesus on ice that I know of,....would be the Slapshooter.
However, if Jesus were to be a hockey player/public schooler/private schooler,....I think GOD, our creator, the giver of life and liberty, would want Jesus to use that God-given right to choose (liberty) whatever team/school that is best for him. He would not be in favor of the MSHSL, or Nut, or anyone else,....excercizing their aquired power to make or even influence this personal decision for anyone.
The selfrighteous Nut referred to his "bookworm" a few posts back. I wonder how Nut and/or the little "bookworm" would handle an unsatisfactory teacher,....or class they didn't like,.....or if they didn't think they could get the grade they needed. Would they make the best of it and accept the results just like everyone else in class,....or would they CHOOSE to drop the class for their own personal benefit?

That is an easy answer - LIFE IS NOT FAIR - work it out. Deal with it. Work within the system and figure out how to make the best of it. Doesn't that build character more than running from the problem? I recall being taught that lesson when I was in high school when my English teacher used the old school grading scale where my 83% got me a C+. I whined to my father that it was 'unfair' that I get grounded for having something less than a B grade when I had 83%. Did my father change his position? Nope. He told me I knew the grading scale at the beginning of the semester, so I should have worked harder to get 90%!

Nuts... and Neutron's cherrys... not fruitcake again!
H. Family, how dare your give all Catholics a bad name by spreading your hatred in the world (copyright, H. Nut).
Dave Stead and I are going to reverse the "ME" and "I" that have infiltrated society and teams, by FORCING MY WILL on you and your family (copyright, H. Nut)!
Your family does not need a Catholic school! Be sure to attend public school on Sunday and think about someone besides yourself. I know I will be asking my public school priest how he found the Lord (copyright, H. Nut).
So your kid has to sit out a year of hockey - big deal - that’s a small price to pay compared to all the satisfaction I’m going to get watching your family suffer for all my own life’s failures (copyright, H. Nut).
Your family should have to suffer like mine. My wife went to a private Catholic high school. Her family had an income level of less than $25,000 and they found the tuition. Of course, one of her siblings starved to death before high school age, but it was probably best not to see Dad going to jail after he had no money left to pay his taxes, since Catholic school tuition, rightfully, is not tax deductible (copyright, H. Nut).
I didn’t care when they lost the house… better PLAN AHEAD RIGHT (copyright, H. Nut)?
When will all you bad Catholics do as I say before I have to FORCE you? Never. I thought so. Don’t bother trying to answer… I’ll decide all the answers for you (copyright, H. Nut).
*Nut’s terrible grammar corrected courtesy of AP posting services and approved by self-appointed cherry- picker, Neutron14.
