Stillwater @ CDH early this week. I believe they're currently knotted at 4-1 in the conference. Hope Pony #17 is back for this one.

Edina has four very challenging games coming up:

12/12 @ Minnetonka (should win this one, but Minnetonka could pull upset)
12/16 vs. Wayzata (Wayzata definitely could pull this one out)
12/20 @ Stillwater (we'll see how good Stillwater really is this year)
12/22 @ Holy Angels (great match-up, a toss-up in my opinion)

12/18/2006 Roseville Area
12/20/2006 Edina
12/29/2006 Academy of Holy Angels

Yikes!!

If they go 3-2 over these five games, that would be a major accomplishment.
The good news: playing these tough games will be good for them come section playoff time.

What I like about Stillwater is that they made a commitment to building an awesome program and they play the very best competition. The girls this year may not seem as intimidating as in the past but the work they put in against these good teams is sure to pay off huge for them

Saw stillwater play once last week vs WBL. Lots of YOUNG talent. I believe they have an 8th grader on D that plays every other shift. One of the best skaters I have seen in a while, but small. Their thrid line has two 9th graders that can just fly. However, I think their youth will show through during these games. My guess is that they go 2-3 and that will be a huge accomplishment. I think they will really struggle with the physical play of Edina,Roseville and Cretin. I think they will beat AHA and Hastings.

Edina at Minnetonka

Minnetonka just came off a big game with Armstrong 2-2 tie. So I'm hoping for a good game for my GREEN team tonight.

Re: Sibley v SSP. Injuries have hit Sibley hard. Their best defenders are out: Lange & Parker. Top scorer - Katie Anderson out as well. Game would have been a lot better with those three playing.

See this which I wrote after the game... I'd say it pretty accurately reflects the Sib/Sim game?

Some things about our game last night:

1) Sibley was missing 3 of their best D/players by the 2nd period - and two were out from the start of the game.

2) My team played 1 period last night - the 2nd - and looked atrocious the other 2 (1st & 3rd). We didn't deserve to win that game as a team, and I told the kids this. They also were told that they won't always be so lucky, and that Hill-Murray will likely take it to them on Tue if they play like that again, and it would be ugly. I hope for much better on Tue. It's so simple, but you have to come to play 3 periods - and also from the start of the game right away. We started too slow, and while things got better in 1st it still was a horrible period for us. Even in the 2nd we hurt ourselves by taking 4 penalties... although we did play better. The 3rd was the worst period of hockey I've seen in a long time - and while we took 3 more penalties and had to kill 5v3 that's still no excuse for 25 shots in a period. We allowed as many shots in that period as we had in nearly every complete game the first 7 games of the season!

3) Sibley has a much deeper and more solid team than most realize. Last night proved this to me - although I knew it coming in.

4) Mel Gerten, our goalie, is one of the top Sr Goalies in the state. If anyone doubts this, come watch. We don't win last night without her performance. 3-2 lead going into the 3rd, and she stops more shots in that period, including many on PK, than she had faced in the prior 2 periods combined. 25 of 25 in the 3rd. She's my "Player-of-the-Week" nomination this week, that's for certain. the question is what value will the papers place on such stellar goaltending... Like D, G's can be often overlooked for hge scoring outbursts sometimes...

Really looking forward to Stillwaters next few games. They looked very tough against Cretin in a 5-1 win. Hastings, Roseville, Edina and then Holy Angels in Kaposia. Thats as tough as it gets. A tough schedule but it seems to be making them better as the season moves along as they have now won 6 in a row.

Big Game in the Suburban East

Post by brookyone »

Pretty significant matchup coming up on 12/18. All appearances are R'ville is playing like a well oiled machine hitting on all cylinders...have been from the start. Stillwater effort vs. Hastings today not quite as sharp as against CDH earlier this week. Had a little trouble finishing on some very nice and creatively developed opportunities that kept the game relatively close. I suspect missing those opportunities are quite likely to cost the Ponies vs. a team of Roseville's caliber. In other words I'm pretty sure Stillwater will require an effort / game more akin to the CDH game to play with R'ville and have a chance at winning. I'm sure Roseville will be ready to go at home...the Ponies had better be prepared to respond in kind.

Still no #17 on the ice for Stillwater. I continue to hope for her complete recovery. Aside from the obvious benefit of having her on the ice, I hate to see anyone miss out on games, especially throughout their senior season. Obviously it'd be very difficult to be game ready for this one at this stage.

Simley v SSP at Wakota, Friday, 7:30pm. I don't want to put too much pressure on anybody, but this is the moment of truth. BIG sister vs little sister.

Ten + years and not one W for Simley vs. SSP (never in program history). LPH/AP puts the pressure on with a #6A Simley vs. #7A SSP ranking. 16 juniors & seniors for SSP. 13 7th & 8th graders for Simley. Should be interesting to see what happens.

3 11th, 5 12th, + 1 9th - 22 total experienced hockey players (with youth experience).

8-7th's
5-8th's
2-9th's (1 inj for season torn ACL HS Soccer)
0-10th's
3-11th's
5-12th's

We also have 10 kids with less than a year of hockey experience playing JV as they become ready - just started skating with HS program - no prior youth experience.

33 total players in program.
