Yeah Austin beat Fairmont 11-4, and beat Windom 6-4, Besides for the second period in the Windom Game...Austin looked really good though, played tough hopefully will be AL, West, then Austin
Yeah Barry East's last year team won the section but they also all Graduated so I doubt they will win the section again after losing the whole team who won it for them.

Section 1A
Barry McConell,
Yeah East was section champs last year but to say they are the champs until beaten is hard to say when they lose 13 seniors off of that team from last year. I'm not saying East is going to be terrible though either. I watched them play in the scrimmages and they looked like the new coach is working them very hard and the freshman look pretty decent.
In my opinion AL is the best overall team in the section. Clay is a very solid goalie and makes few mistakes. They also move the puck better than any other team in the section. Roy will have that team clicking on all cylinders by the time sections come around. I wouldn't be suprised to see AL representing section 1A at state in March.

austins goalies wont be able to keep them in the game, no varsity experience whatsoever and letting in 4 goals against two bottom teams in 1a? a 3-1 austin victory will never happen, and when east runs up the score austin only has one returning player that was consitstantly in one of last years top 3 lines, which means lack of offense.
East- 8
Austin- 3
East- 8
Austin- 3

What a difference a year makes....
Last season the first Austin vs. Mankato East meeting was considered by many as the game to decide who 1A's front runner would be. I think that one ended up being a 2-2 tie and a game where the refs decided as much as the players.
Now with both teams losing over a dozen seniors, we've got a game that won't mean much to the 1A picture in general, but I think this is a game with meaning for Austin. It would be generous to call Austin's outlook going in to this season 'pessimistic'. If they manage to beat East tonight it would:
1. Legitimize them as a team that might have the potential to pull off an upset or two later this season.
2. Give them a Big 9 win against a team other than Winona, something I've said in the past wouldn't happen.
A prediction from me at this point would be a shot in the dark, but I'd like to see the packers come away with this one, if only to boost moral. If these guys have a reason keep their heads up and play hard every game they could have some fun and surprise a few teams, but if they get into a rut this early then the long stretch of tough games ahead of them WILL get ugly.
