My sophmore daughter, who lives for hockey and would one day like to play at the college level, just sustained an injury that will effectively take her out of hockey for the winter season - for the second year in a row. She is pretty devastated, and aside from missing out on all the fun, fears that by losing this season, her chances for proving herself and making it to the next level will be minimal. To her credit, she is trying her best to stay positive.
I know it's not good, but is it as bad as she thinks? If she's good enough, are there ample opportunities for exposure during the other seasons? Any recommendations or advice from you veterans out there?
Impact of losing a HS season?

Loosing a HS season
I am a junior who has played varstiy hockey since i was a freshman. This fall i tore my acl and both of my menisci playing soccer. I cant say that i've missed more then 4 games since i was 10, but will miss 6 months. There's nothing that anyone can say to help make it better, but i can promise your daughter that time is the key. It must be very hard for her to loose two seasons in a row. I could not imagine that. I can only say that what she needs is people supporting her. I imagine that your family and her friends have really helped a lot, that's what has kept me going. No one can predict the future, but we can only live each day without regret. Part of me wishes i would not have played soccer this year, but giving it up next year will be hard enough. I can only say that in the long run missing one season will be better than hurting the rest of your life with injury troubles. I wish your daughter the best of luck! I hope she does well!
Soccer has to be #1 among all girls team sports in causing injuries. And I always find it ironic that most people unfamiliar with hockey, think that hockey is the much rougher sport. Parents still associate hockey with missing teeth; they will sign their daughters up for soccer, but not hockey because of fear of injuries. Girls hockey and soccer aren't even close when it comes to injuries. My daughter plays both hockey and soccer in HS, and I consider the season successful if she makes it through the soccer season injury-free.
