Jodi decided to walk on at UND for the chance to play DI hockey,
she may have gotten some money later on. Sometimes schools end up with extra scholarship dollars after April when they find out players had gotten Academic scholarship dollars and they spread it around the team to kids that didn't get any.

She had oppotunities to play at most of the MN/WI DIII schools
and would be a first or second line player right away.

Great kid who shoots left and knows how to score.

ND will struggle for another couple of years, Head Coach Rivard's
contract is up next year and I doubt she will be there, then they
can start to rebuild that program.

Since there are a number of knowledgeable "insiders" here I'll ask...who was the young local lady, along with her parents, spending so much time with UNH coack McCloskey & staff at Ridder this past weekend? On the outside chance someone knows. Didn't recognize her myself.

I was wondering which school would be lucky enough to get Bauerfeld!!! She'll join former SSP Teammate Robertson (current FR) there.

The day approaches. Any thoughts on notable players not yet committed?

Not long now. Perhaps we'll just have to wait & see.

Where are the "top notch" forwards from the cities going.. There's only 3 that have been mentioned so far...Cody, Bauerfield, Kilpatrick

Any players going to D3 programs? The forum never comments on those players, at least that I've read. Any thoughts!

Anne Dronen, Def MN Thoroughbreds signs NLI to Wisconsin.

Anne from Chaska MN will make a good DI player, she is a gritty and smart player that doesn't make a lot of mistakes. Although she is only 5' 4" 140# she plays very physical and can handle the puck and become part of the offense.

Congarts to Anne.

The DIII commitments usually don't surface until beginning of the year,
07 that is.

Dronen is easily one of the best defenders I've seen. She was an amazing player when I first had the honor of working with her briefly with Mark Stephan (Edina HS Coach now) & his Magik AAA team. Since then, she has just continued to improve and has had some great seasons with the T-breds. This is a great signing for Wisconsin, and continues with the theme that we have some great D in this 89 birthyear/07 class of kids.

Jeff Giesen - Recruiting Machine

Post by cluelessinminnesota »

I think its next to impossible to move from a mid-level DI program to a top-notch DI program because so many things have to happen. Number one on the list of things that has to happen is the coaches need to identify and then recruit the top talent or at least the talent the Wisconsin and Minnesotas don't want. I think Jeff is doing this better than anyone else. I can't wait to see where his program is in a year or two. Will they become the next Mercyhurst?

Maybe if the next Meghan Agosta decides to play for SCSU...not that that's what needs to happen, but it would sure help. I also don't think for a second Minnesota or Wisconsin wouldn't, or didn't want Holly Roberts (just one example) among others. You're right about Goose doing a fine job of landing excellent talent. From watching the WCHA and other D-I programs my personal belief is you need to scoop some top talent from outside the Minnesota pool in addition to doing well in the state. That seems to be the larger obstacle faced by SCSU, MSU, BSU etc. etc. When you have as many teams out east consistently landing talent from the Canadian national and Olympic player pool...it's very difficult as you say.

My bigger concern however is right here in the WCHA and Wisconsin in particular (since you have to play them so regularly). Since Johnson took over it's blue chipper after blue chipper after blue chipper after blue chipper for the Badgers...it never ends. I don't know how...it's like he's got twice the scholarships of anybody else. Enuf already!! He very nearly got Agosta too BTW. Must be that wanting to play for an ex Olympian and current national team coach.

The right coach makes all the difference. Program reputation is critical as well. Someone has to build programs though. And that takes the right coaching I believe. Players still are the ones that win games I believe, but coaching helps gather the right players to do so as much as the winning does this too, etc...

IMO-whoever "gets" her will be very very happy and those who don't will be very disapointed that they did not go after her or go after her harder. She's a complete player...probably the best 2-way player in the state. Some schools are making a big mistake by not going after her.

Everyone always talks about "a player to build a team around" and usually you hear the biggest scorers, etc. mentioned. If I had one choice, I'd take Stoa and build a team around her. She's not a 100 pt scorer (but is 50-60+) and if you've ever seen what the kid does for team chemistry, inaddition to her 2-way play, and then you factor in her talent, selflessness, etc. - this is the kid to take.

Any corrections or additional info / knowledge welcome and appreciated.

Amada Trunzo is supposed to be headed for Dartmouth, not St. Cloud State. Still unofficial at this point.

I believe that is correct. It's the commitment I was speaking of in vague terms. Spoke to her at Wakota during the Kaposia. Very nice young lady.

I've also been informed of a correction via email...Trunzo to Dartmouth not SCSU.
