I know Brittany Carlson (CDH) went to NPD and Jac Daggit (Park) went to both NPD and Select 15 in Mankato. Brittany lives in Hudson WI, so I don't think they would have asked her to the select 15, would they?

The Minnesota Girls Select 15 Camp in Mankato this summer was suppose to be the best 15 year olds in the state with out political or AAA bias. The girls were 15 in 1990 so some were class of 08 & 09. The teams listed are where the girls played in the 04-05 season. Here were the rosters:

GOLD - HALDORSON's team
keys - cretin
bacon -bsm
nyhus - cent 14
Jenkins - Austin
reynolds - wayzata 14
osberg EP
sheriff BJ
hawkins MV14
pieper warroad
macrosite sw14
gunderson - eagan14
nyquest PC
lenz duluth14
loberg-sunderup wayzata14
dehefl bemidji

TEAL _OLSON's team
Altman-eagan
burke-ep
vichorek-cloquet
welch-woodbury
gray -st/a
montgomery cent14
jackson cam/is
daggit pcg
ostoff mankato
ketcher mound
bye brainerd14
press bsm
schmidt st/f
clark - sw14
hedlund egf14

BLUE - Carroll's team
Collier-hibbing
klatt-woodbury
carlson-rosewille
vadner-av
daleiden-blaine
malacek e wright co
kelly sw14
duffy bsm
beck cloquet
williams eagan
bell sartell
zebro st/f
fleming wayzata14
black mankato
kirkland cent14

GREY LESTEBERG's team
Muske -Anoka Bant
Schutt ER
Swartz Bemidiji
lacombe ep PW
leland PC
Cole Wayzata14
duffy Andover
scatterelli ER
orke wayzata
shelafoe Mounds view 14
debruzzi Cent
Birdsall duluth
fladebo Cam/is
ernst mankato
stevenson buffalo14

This was an awesome camp coached by Haldorson (UofM) Visner (MSU) Carroll (GA) Olson (BSU) Lesteberg (STCS). Both wonderful events, and good lists of players. A couple very amazing 90's aren't on the above list as well as some didn't participate prior to attending Lake Placid.

Top Juniors
I feel that the goalie list should also include Claire Richards from Richfield. She was an All Conference pick last year in the Classic Suburban, while leading the conference in save percentage at 95%.
Those are impressive numbers considering she has little or no help with a team that is well below .500. She is the one player that keeps Richfield close and gives them a chance.

top juniors
I searched www. stribune.sportshuddle.com for last year's stats. Many of the players listed were not in the top 100. Here are a few left out from the top 50(Star and Trib), that will be juniors this year.
19th Taylor Jenkins Austin (She is a forward that is hiding under the radar. A complete player. Some college is going to get a steal)
41th Hannah Riggs EP ( hidden in the background of this powerhouse)
46th Rachel Ripley Farmington ( Another creative player with high energy)
47th Kendra Ledel
50th Danielle Person

I agree 100% on Richards. Great kid too. Had the chance to work with her briefly at P1 NDP.

Re: top juniors
Some on the list play for SSM or T-Breds, so they won't make the HS points list. Some others may not have stats supplied to StarTrib sponsored SportsHuddle (which now is replaced by MaxPreps by the way...).falcons89 wrote:I searched www. stribune.sportshuddle.com for last year's stats. One issue we have is no archives for stats (first VarsityOnline http://www.varsityonline.com went down, now SportsHuddle gone) and when you have one media entity running this the others won't use it - which is an issue. We also still don't have ANY opportunity to record complete boxscores, like Varsity Online used to do back in the day...
My understanding is that one metro HS girls conference will be a demo for the PointStreak http://www.pointstreak.com system which is best as it could become the standard clearinghouse for all stats (would disseminate to all media independent of any one media entity and also would allow access to player info. for college coaches/recruiters, etc.). This would save a lot of time for coaches reporting wise and also do the best job of promoting our players and sport to the media and college coaches, etc.
Back to the point though, the players mentioned are all very good but stats alone don't make an elite player. There are some very good players that play extremely difficult schedules with little support around them and they won't rack up maybe even 50, 40, or even 30 points. Some other players play weaker schedules and/or have more "supporting cast" players that are quite good and they subsequently rack up more points. Also - some coaches won't play best players in a blowout and some don't stop at 5-6-7 goal differential (let alone 10 or 15 sometimes).
One other thing I try to look at is points against quality opponents, and unfortunately without a complete boxscore you can't see if an "elite" player was scoring their 6th goal in the last minute of the 3rd period in a 15-0 blowout against the weaker team's 3rd/4th lines/backup G/etc, etc.
One should also look at how many other 25+ point scorers are on a team as far a "supporting cast" is concerned, but even then that can be deceiving as a 25pt player from a team with a weak SOS maybe isn't the same as a 5-10pt player from a team with amazing SOS. It's pretty easy to stop 1-player teams by stopping the one player. The teams that kill you are the ones with true depth - and sometimes those with 1 amazing player are easier to stop than those with 5-6 stronger players.
Bottom line is that top players on average-to-weaker teams won't rack up big point totals if up against a strong SOS without much help. Unfortunately though there is no way to factor out teammate, coaching decision, & SOS disparity from one player to another. Opponents (Strength-of-Schedule "SOS"), quality of teammates, and how a coach manages games make a difference in points.

Yes it is true that the star and trib sports huddle is replaced for this year but the data is still there from last year at http://startribune.sportshuddle.com/fan ... iates/MST/
I do find box scores on this site. It is a sad day in hockey when a coach continues to build stats on a blowout. I guess I haven't seen this lately. I can't imagine that a team plays enough teams, that they can blow out, to rack up incredible stats.
Girls hockey is a challenge with SOS, due to the still building of a program. SOS does have to be considered.
Supporting casts always help in building stats. However, a truly elite player makes the players around them better and the team better.
It sounds like you have experience of being around alot of these kids which helps in your process. I realize this isn't the NHL, but a player without stats is rarely considered elite. It is unfortunate that a +/- isn't used to help out the D evaluation.
Some of the best skaters and stickhandlers I have seen, never make it to elite, because they just can't set it up, or score. That is a skill that is often overlooked by parents, average highschool coaches etc.

Re: junior class allstars
Yes, but for how long will it be there? That's what I'd like to know... VarsityOnline was around for a while too but eventually went away. I hope people have the stats archived just in case if they care. I know some teams entered stats back to the 30's & 40's on VOL and then all was lost.falcons89 wrote:Yes it is true that the star and trib sports huddle is replaced for this year but the data is still there from last year at http://startribune.sportshuddle.com/fan ... iates/MST/
Partial, but not complete (scoring time detail, etc.) In my mind, this is not a complete boxscore:falcons89 wrote:I do find box scores on this site.
SportsHuddle
However, this is:
MGHSH
This I think would be even better:
PointStreak
And even this wasn't bad back in the day:
VarsityOnline
Couldn't agree more!falcons89 wrote:It is a sad day in hockey when a coach continues to build stats on a blowout.
It's hard to say if we've seen this lately, but there were nearly 100 games that had scores differential of 10 or greater, and over 275 that had score differential of 7 or greater (6 is running time I think). See the bottom of this message for details.falcons89 wrote:I guess I haven't seen this lately. I can't imagine that a team plays enough teams, that they can blow out, to rack up incredible stats.

Agreed. The best are truly "complete" & 2-way players that are team players as well.falcons89 wrote:Supporting casts always help in building stats. However, a truly elite player makes the players around them better and the team better.
Great point. Exception being stay-at-home D with no support, Goaltenders that have no support and face tons of shots.falcons89 wrote:It sounds like you have experience of being around alot of these kids which helps in your process. Couldn't agree more, but even +/- has to be taken into consideration in the context of team quality, SOS, etc. If I'm an even "0" +/- and my team is -2983759 that's still pretty good. If I'm that "0" and my team is +39825790387590375 well, that's likely a different story...falcons89 wrote:It is unfortunate that a +/- isn't used to help out the D evaluation.
Typically an "elite" player has to have all the tools in their toolbox. I still believe that to play the game at the highest level, you have to be able to skate. it doesn't make a difference if you can shoot accurately 1000mph or can stickhandle standing still. the game has evolved a ton in the last 10 years for certain. The next 10 should be equally interesting.falcons89 wrote:Some of the best skaters and stickhandlers I have seen, never make it to elite, because they just can't set it up, or score. I think that we need to define "Elite" and this may tie in to the notion of who is an "All Star" consideration... I've tried to only include players that I've seen enough to know what my evaluation is instead of looking just at stats, relying on others to tell me about them, etc.
Maybe instead we should use the best unbiased process that I know of out there - NDP. Essentially, true "elite" players are probably those that will play D1. I would argue that if a kid doesn't make at least P2 NDP once in their HS career then their chances of playing D1 are pretty limited, and hence probably aren't a D1 or "elite" player.
I would say the best candidates for D1 are the kids that go to NY each year. Maybe a few of the top P2 kids are D1 possibly too and it also depends on if we're talking about these kids playing at the best or worst D1 schools.
I would say that most P1 and all P2 kids could play D3, but again it depends on the team quality.
Do NDP kids get missed? Yes, likely based on a poor tryout, or the age groupings (i.e 88's w/ 89's this year, etc.) might result in an outstanding birth year crowding out a less stellar year that is paired with it. But, eventually, somewhere down the line I do believe that the kids that should make it do at least once in the 4 years.
Of course, some of this will change this year too based on new USA H methods based on single birth-year camps in NY I believe?
Anyway, in my mind, a 1-time or more NDP NY kid is probably "elite" as they are most likely D1 material. I would say a 1-time or more P2 kid is probably an "All-Star" consideration (Low level D1 or Top D3 at worst). I threw some other names in my "lists" from a year + ago as I saw the kids and thought they had potential or may have been overlooked...
