JGA Banquet?

Post by troll21 »

Are you kidding me, another breakfast on game day. Didn't the host association or district this year learn from the disaster two years ago in Edison. Come on, give the kids a great meal the night before and show that its for them. Is District 8 up to date on their Sams CLub membership?

(Teams that went to Edison know the joke!)

Maybe if there is room, the JGA teams can head over to the Edina Country Club for dinner, THE NIGHT BEFORE THE BIG GAMES!

Ran out of food. Had to go to Sams Club to buy frozen pancakes, heat them in a microwave, and give one each to players and parents. (I do not know if they where actually bought at Sams Club). People paid a lot of money for the banquet but never where fed.

Who was the speaker? Mr. Diedzic, who talked about selling the Edison arena, nothing about hockey history in the community, what it meant to host a state tournament there, or thank you to the players and parents for coming to the city and playing in the tournament.

I do not think Eagan has anything to do with it. The district is in charge of what takes place, Eagan is just the host association. Nice venue at Eagan.

2 years ago at Edison it was a joke. None of the players on the state championship team attented the breakfast and the coaches said it was one of the worst meals in a long time. The district hosting this year should've noticed last year how succesful the dinner thursday night was and how the majority of players enjoyed being able to celebrate the night before the competition. Have a breakfast in Eagan at 730 in the morning is no state banquet.

I dont know about Duluth but a lot of kids on EP do not want to go to the 730 AM banquet since our game is a noon....we wouldnt be able to eat much cuz our game is so early its not really fair to the teams that have to early games to have a BIG breakfast right before a big game....A dinner the night before would be so much better because you still have a day before your game not 3 hours!

This is a terribly situation. Well, I am sure that some teams will not attend the banquest, but end up doing something with their team earlier that week.

This is a terrible thing to happen, how could a district even allow something like this. Or does the district even care since its only jr gold? What have they done for the pw or bt A's when hosting state in the past? I know its all about money but the district needs to step up and take the burden off the hosting association. Elliot, you need to do more than just mention to the boys...... I think Mn Hockey should at least have a minimum recomendation as to how they run a state tournament including the banquet.
Someone should look around at the other districts to see what they're doing this year at the other levels.

Why cant they do something like that for JGA?? Edina is making it classy too which is nice to see...Why is it always a joke at the A level? A breakfast at 730 am at the arena?? How many teams out there actually want to do that?

Breakfast banquets are horrible and should not be allowed on gameday. Edison was horrible a couple of years ago and last year in Hoyt they did it right. Maybe the cities districts have no clue on how to host a banquet.

www.mnhockeytalk.com

The D2 thing in 2000....sheesh...yes they had a breakfast as well, but I think theirs was even on the Saturday after games had started. Now don't quote me on that one but I am trying to remember why/how they had it in the WBL High School Cafeteria...

Is it true that they are planning on having this bkfst at the Arena ??! There is no rule that states your team can not attend the banquet without a consequence. The permission thing is, who do you ask, there is no where to look or who to ask as its not printed in any book.

I am aware of at least 4 teams that are thinking about not going. I doubt Duluth and Grand Rapids will be attending, why pay for an extra night to attend a poorly planned breakfast.

Things considered, MNHOCKEY Board members use their title and don't follow the rules and would possibly use this threat. So teams that do not go, look out, the unwritten rule book will be coming out and you could be disqualified.

"LETS PLAY HOCKEY HEADLINE"
Minnesota Hockey suspends 4 Junior Gold A teams for not attending a breakfast banquet. Eden Prairie and Duluth where set to take the ice at noon but neither team showed for the State Torunament banquet held at Eagan Ice Arena in the overlook area and where disqualified from the torunament. Breakfast was to include: cold eggs, burnt toast and bacon, pancakes that are cooked to a rubbery consistency.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... troll21 at: 3/10/06 7:57 am

The host is required to either have a banquet or breakfast for the state tournament. The host covers all costs for the entire state tournament. If the players are concerned about eating to much before the game just snack.Part of the atmosphere of the tournament is the banquet and all parts included. I would not want to embarass my high school, association and city by thumbing my nose and not attending the event. Show the class of being good enough to be there or show no class by being elsewhere.

I guess I would thumb the banquet. Very poor decision by the host. They should have been informed from previous hosts, individuals, or MNHOCKEY that a breakfast banquet is not a great idea. Yes, the banquet is part of the atmosphere for the tournamnet. These kids deserve something better, they have earned it. Its for them, not the convenience of adults that are up at the crack of dawn and only watch great hockey all day.

There is no embarrassment to the high school, association, or city if they do not attend. I would rather have my players in bed until 8:00 am, for a noon game, instead of being up at 6:00 am and getting ready to head to a breakfast banquet.

EP will be going to the banquet and my bet would be GR and Duluth would come because they are probably coming to Eagan Thursday night. We were thinking about not going and talked to some people and they said we HAD to talk to the MN board to get permission or we would be kicked out...its pretty rediculus but its not about the banquet its about the great hockey that will take place through the weekend!

G. MISSING SCHOOL– For youth and Girls tournaments, games should not be scheduled which causes players to miss school classes. For invitational tournaments, it is STRONGLY recommended that no games begin before 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Exceptions will be recognized during Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Due to geographics and the formats required for MN Hockey region and state tournaments, players on teams participating will likely miss school on Friday of the tournament weekend.

I. BANQUET – It is strongly recommended that the State Tournament hosts hold a breakfast or banquet for participating teams on the morning of, or the evening before the first game. This is usually offered at no
cost to players and coaches, with a moderate cost to parents. If there is a banquet or breakfast offered, ALL TEAMS MUSTATTEND. A speaker is traditionally provided, as well as an opportunity for each headcoach to express their thoughts. This is also an opportune time to perform
the team check in progress.

Does MN hockey pay for the extra nights for the teams from outstate? We can drive down and still make the games!! Have some class, cancel the breakfast.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... Ferget - Thanks for showing me the correct wording about the banquet. I did not see "The Guidelines For Tournaments" on MNHOCKEY website.

But there is no consequence if you do not attend. Either way, it should be a evening banquet.
