hand shake after the game
We were in the Moorhead tourney and I liked the
hand shake after the game. Do the northern teams
do this in regular games?
I am courious what everyone thinks about shaking hands
before vs after the game.

congrats to the teams in the Moorhead tourney; it was fun!!

handshake after the game
I think doing handshakes after the game is a great idea! It is too bad that the few players who would fight during the handshake ruined it for the rest of us.

Handshake
The Metro Hockey League are the only ones who have the handshake take place before the game starts. I have never liked that idea.

Re: Handshake
I think we should change this; or at least give the coaches
the opption before the game.
this is an embaresment to the league in my opinion.

Re: Handshake
There should absolutely be a handshake after every GAME

It's a ritual that's as much a part of high school sports as winning and losing. In fact, it takes place right after winning and losing.

Athletes line up after a game or match and shake hands or slap five with their counterparts from the other team.

You can't win them all, obviously. The idea is to play hard but to play fair. When the game is over, shake hands and move on.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... wkfan70 at: 1/9/06 1:17 pm

Re: Handshake
I think handshakes after should be brought back...There are very few (if any) players that have that much disrespect to fight during the handshake. There are rarely fights in this league anymore and the before game handshake doesnt feel right and looks stupid in my opinion

Re: Handshake
D16 shakes hands after the game. If they do not or do smoothing bad during the hand shake, then they have to deal with my 'handshake'.

In sports - sportsmanship comes first.

Re: Handshake
Sometimes, when the Metro teams come up north the handshake is sometimes forgotten altogether.

Because they are not used to the shake after the game, they will leave the ice when the game is over. The Norhtern teams will be left standing at center ice. I know it's not intentional, but it's funny when it happens.

Re: Handshake
elliot. agreed. reinstitute the handshake prior to the game. who are the numbnuts who reversed this protocol? get it changed.

handshake
This has been discussed many times before, thanks to a few idiots a few years back we're paying for it now. I think its time to change the rule, would we accept the responsibility if something happened? What should happen if a fight breaks out during the handshake at the end. Bring this to the MHL with a few ideas to avoid fighting, maybe they'll change it.

Re: handshake
This rule was created by the old Jr. Gold/Midget coaches that run the Metro Hockey league. They will not listen to the new coaches that want to get rid of this rule, they constantly have stood firm ground that this is what the "coaches want". Of course this if you have not noticed, the board has there favorite coaches that have been around awile The bad thing about this rule is that it has now carried over to all metro area tournaments for Jr. Gold, except District 8, where this rule is not welcome.

Why this rule is bad: I witnessed a great hockey game, finished 1 -1, 1 penalty per team. Players know each other and attempted to shake hands on the ice. Players where advised that if they did, they would recieve a game misconduct as would the coach for shaking hands.

Classic ending to this: The refs seen players in one locker room ( both teams) and attempted to separate. The kids ignored the refs and continued what they where doing! Once again, adults trying the ruin the game for kids. Great job players for showing sportsmanship and enjoying the game!

Handshake PETITION
Guys,

I have created a petition which I will send to the Metro Hockey League Board of Directors once a good amount of signatures are received asking them to reinstate the handshake after the game. Make sure to have everyone on your team, including parents and coaches sign this. It's time that we have a say!

<a href="http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/h ...

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... pHOCK14 at: 1/13/06 3:26 pm

Re: Handshake PETITION
good work. hopefully the old boys network at metro hockey (coaches) will intercede and amend this foolish matter. quickly.

Re: Handshake PETITION
I hope you understand by slamming the board about the good old boys club you arent getting off on the right foot. I wont disagree that some of the board members are there for other reasons, and the chairman is worthless, but if you want change then figure out what the action will be when we have the first altercation during the handshake at the end of the game. Get on the agenda and ask for an open vote on this ruling and see who's standing in the way of change. You're right saying that kids have changed from years past, but every year we have at least one major problem happen and its sometimes just enough to keep things the same. By the way, ask the MHL board members how many games they watch, I'll bet only a few go to alot of games, what does that tell you?

Re: Handshake PETITION
gfhock1 - if the "good old boys", as you call them, are looking at this board, they do not care what is being said. Because it does not matter, as no district director will challenge them on this rule. Even tough I do not like D8, I respect them on not following this rule. There point in MHL is being made and nobody can change it. Individuals in the MHL have to understand that if you particpate in the MHL you have to follow the select rules that they have in place. If you read the bylaws of the MHL, there is no way to get rid of the current members and change the league structure. The MHL was created by the members that are currently running the league. Great, they have done a fine job and I commend them on what they have done for youth hockey at the Jr Gold Level. But it's time for a change.

If the MHL is not working for your team and association structure, speak with your district director and look to an alternative. Remember, you are paying $200.00 plus to the MHL to run YOUR LEAGUE!

I commend the players from EP that have the petition that they want signed. I will be more than happy to sign, but you must forward this to the D6 director and have him sign. Along with D3, D2, D10, D8, and TC district. Without them, this will be worthless.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... troll21 at: 1/14/06 12:15 am

Re: Handshake PETITION
The current MHL board were not around when the league started. The league started out as a Jr. Gold league only,I believe Ed Howat District 6 Director and a few other started in either the late 80's or early 90's.The Midgets were brought in 1993 and there are only 2 people left from that board that are still involved on the MHL board. The reps from each District are chosen by each individual District and that can change from year to year.In some Districts it is the Director who makes the appointment others the District President, each according to their by-laws.The board can also be over ridden by the Maroon Directors.
The people involved have the best interests of the players and if change is wanted have the change plus solutions ready.

A number of years ago MAHA put the pressure on the board either clean up the "B" league or that level would be finnished. What the board with recommendations from the coaches put in place the 3 penalty rule, the game dq and the pre game hand shake. The fact that it worked is that the "B" league is still here.

Re: Handshake PETITION
I never used the term"good old boys......" not that there isnt some of that. I want to see the handshake at the end of games, I also dont want any problems at that point in the contest either. Determine a solution/penalty for causing a problem and I think you'll be suprised at the support from some members of the mhl board to change this ruling.

Re: Handshake PETITION
i thought mike dudley was the go-to-commissioner on this one. am i wrong?

Metro Rules
The DQ rule is good. The 3 and out is not so good. One hook, an accidental trip and a holding can get you booted? They should adjust it to injury penaties such as Charging, boarding, head contact, cross checking, slashing ect... Players that have problems with holding and hooking should not be ejected. They should sit thier 2 minutes and watch thier team loose the game and that will teach them. As for the injury penalties, there is no place for them in this game and those player should be 3 and out. While we are on the subject of rule changes. Can we finally put back the tag up rule in Junior Gold. This age level is all high school age players and they should be able to play high school rules.

Bring back the handshake after the game. In my office I shake everyones hand before and after I meet with them. To not shake hands after is an insult.

Re: handshake

Re: hanshake
Once the buzzer sounds and both teams are coming onto the ice to shake hands, at that point if a fight (not a little pushing) breaks out (real punches) whomever throws a punch should be done for the season. If thats a rule everyone agrees with then I'm in favor of handshakes after the game. If not, then keep it the same. Dont confuse the scuffle in the crease as the buzzer is sounding and the refs break it up, that should be handled as it is now, first time offense for fighting = 3 game suspension, second offense is your done for the season.
