D8 playoffs

Post by freighttrain »

IGH (4) vs. Woodbury (1)

This is the first time in 6 years that we have moved forward in playoffs at the Jr Gold level. If you have read my early post you know we have our best player out for the year and a second line wing also. We also didnt have one Dman tonight because of something that happened at school. But we got our Dman back tonight that was butt ended in the face. We jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Woodbury got a goal midway through the second period on a mistake by us. Near the end of the 2nd Woodbury got two penalties that ran over into the 3rd. We had a 5 on 3 for 1:29 but we didnt need that much time. 20 seconds into the period Hank buried a rebound to make to 3-1. 7 seconds later Hank came down the left side and got the puck to the front and after a scramble Jason put it away and gave us a 3 goal lead. Woodbury never really got a chance to get back into.
We worked for about 15 minutes on our power play at practice last night changing things around and it seemed to work we went 2-4 on the power play tonight. Now we got Hastings on Wednesday which will be tough.

Other Games:
SSP was beating Rochester White 1-0 when I left. They should win that one IMO

Rochester Red and Lakeville was still scoreless with 4 minutes left in the 1st. Red should win this game also they were controlling most of the play.

If you want to see the bracket go to stickstats.com.

SSP (2) vs. Rochester White (0)

The game was much more lopsided than the score represents, but the rochester goalie played a very solid game and made some key saves, very easily could have been a 5 or 6 to 0 game, so props to him, but this was a good game for our team cept for the lack of scores, tight checking and good scoring opportunities, and we should be ready for rochester red wednesday at 815 (unless they lost tonight against lakeville, unlikely but possible from what freightrain is saying).

-SSP goalie

Rochester Red beat Lakeville only 3-2 last night according to stickstats. That is alot closer than i thought it would be. SO now SSP will play Rochester Red in the Semifinals. Woodbury plays Rochester White on the losers side. Lakeville now waits for the loser between Hastings and IGH.

Game 1 at Hastings 2/25.
Hastings 8
IGH 3

Hastings again showed their speed in this game. The really do have 3 solid lines. I do think IGH Goalie let in a couple of softies and also the net was off a couple of the goals against IGH. But clearly Hastings is the better of the two teams. Hastings opponent with be.......

Rochester Red 3
SSP 2 in 3 OT's

Good game to watch. That's two triple OT games in three night for me. I do think SSP dominated for MOST of the game but in triple OT when it was 3 on 3 one of their guys took a bad penalty. Rochester went on a 4 on 3 Power Play and scored the game winner.

Hastings v Rochester Red for M2 & M5.
SSP has some work to do!

What do we know about D4-11??

Post by RinkRat22 »

Anyone? Bueller? Frye?

What is the latest on the D4-11 situation?? Can we try to collectively figure out if there is a team that WILL represent 4-11 v the winner of the Red Eagles and Skippers?

Which teams are even in D4-11? What are the options out of that District?

Yeah we ran out of gas last night. I know we caught the Hastings kids off guard. They thought we would lay down. One came up to me and one of my players between 2nd and 3rd and asked what we put in the water bottles. It was 2-2 until about 3 minutes left in the second. They scored 3 goals at the end of the third. We scored 10 seconds into the third to make to 5-3 Krumm completing the hat trick. He now has 27 goals on the year. But a few minutes later they scored again to make it 6-3. The final minute we put our weak guys out and Hastings scored 2 goals in the last 15 seconds. Us coaches questioned ourselves after the first two periods if we should have started Brandon. Ryan hasnt been playing well lately.

For the SSP/RED game it was the best game i have seen at the Jr Gold level all year. SSP controlled most of the play early one but Red fought they way back into. Tyler made a great save in the 3rd OT on #15 for Red the best i have seen all year. SSP had their chances to win the game so I dont want them to blame Scotty (head ref that game) because i know they have had some problems with him.

Hey freighttrain -
What's up with that player on your team I think his Last name is Houlsey #12 maybe. After the game he set his helmet in the slot and skated around the circle a couple of times. Is that normal for this kid? What's the deal? It was kind of weird. Just wondering.

No idea

Post by RinkRat22 »

All I know is that the Winner of Tonka v Red gets the winner of Dist 4-11 and I know nothing about them either. I thought someone said that Carlton, Redwood Falls and Albert Lea were the only teams alive (or even had teams in those Districts) I am wondering if anyone knows? Will there be a team that shows up on Sunday regardless of outcomes??

CG, It will be Albert Lea. Like i said in the other thread Rewood Falls and Carlton backed out leaving Albert Lea for the spot. Albert Lea will show up but they dont feel like they should because they didnt earn it. Next year though Redwood Falls wont have a Jr Gold team because they are going to have a high school team.

BVILLE, I dont remember Tony doing that but he is kinda goofy and does some weird things. He is a great kid though and he is fun to have on the team.

d8 playoffs

Post by SSPSLAUGHTERHOUSE »

Well, we lost to Red as you all know in 3 ot's, a real heart breaker for our team. Both teams wanted it and worked their asses off for it till the very end, unfortunately only one team can win a game and very unfortunately for us it wasn't our team. We just blew a few too many opportunities and didn't put them away and it came back to bite us. Red's goalie played solid game and kept them in it till the end so props out to him. That's all I really have to say about that.

MHL: we'll be seeing each other at the back door, bring it on

On a lighter note, just daydreaming the other day and thought it would be sweet to have a jr. gold b allstar game, like d-8 vs the MHL allstars. Think this could be arranged and/or anyone interested?

All Star Game -

Post by BVILLEJRGOLD »

SSP GOALIE -

It's funny you mention that. The EP coach and I were talking about that the other day. It wouldn't have to be MHL vs D8 but it could be. Or you could do a north vs. south or east vs west type thing.

I highly doubt MHL nor D8 would be involved with that so it would have to be privately funded and run. I think that would be great though. Might be too late this season but maybe not. We could put something together for after regions if somebody wants to run it.

BVILLE -

Problem with that...

Post by RinkRat22 »

Nice gesture fellas, but remember the teams finished with their seasons teams from BP to Mahtomedi have already hung them up (or sold their gear at play-again) and they deserve consideration too, right? So you would be limited to the 12 teams who are still on the ice. Good idea, bad timing. Perhaps ya'll should bring that up at the Coaches Pizza party. From what I heard Wednesday eve, that is where all discussions for next year should be brought up.

Eastern Jr. Gold B All-Stars RULE!

Post by TartanCoach »

BVILLE-

It sounds like you just volunteered for the first annual Jr. Gold B MN All-Stars game. You can take the Western team (west of 35W, incl Bville of course) and CoachGuy can take the Eastern Team (East of 35W, incl Rville of course).

Now you just need a player or two from each team and a few hours of ice time. It shouldn't cost more than $20 or $25 per player. I bet most of the local associations would even pick up the tab for the All-Star players.

TC <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

All Star Game -

Post by BVILLEJRGOLD »

Rat - All we would have to do is call the coach from the teams that are done and see if their players would be interested. If not, that's fine, we'll find someone else. The problem is organizing it. I will help coach the "Western All Stars" but we need ice time and stuff like that.

Good Idea TC. I think it could work. So the east would have players from teams like Roseville, Tartan, WBL, SSP, Rochester, Hastings. The west would have players from teams like Bville, EP, Elk River, Edina, Tonka ... this could be fun.
BVILLE

Jr Gold B Select Game

Post by hockeydad1956 »

If there is enough support (teams willing to chip in a few bucks $$$$), We could put together ice time for a one time practice for both squads, followed by the game the next night. Jerseys could be ordered easy enough, just have to agree on the logo. All we need after that is to get a list of players, and pick a team of coaches to handle these young studs. Also a decision would need to be made how to split the players (north/south) (East/west)????? whatever." I would be willing to help put this together and would welcome any support from other managers/coaches.

The cost is going to be the largest issue, two one hour practices and then a two hour game = about $600, jersey costs would not be that bad. But there would have to be some comittment of money from someplace.

I know the perfect place to host such an event. It is located in a sleepy little hollow off 35-W just south of the Minnesota River.

Any players done playing already who would be players that might be selected for such a game, will be ready at the drop of a hat to play in a select game. All we need is to make a few phone calls and we could have at least one player from each other bottom 15 teams. Jr Gold A will often omit the bottom few teams from consideration for selection of a player to their select game.

Funds?

Post by troll21 »

All teams at the A level submit at least three players. However, if your team does not make regionals, one player from the bottom 5, will get to participate. I believe this is how it works. It's unknown as there is no written policy. This is in the Gray area of the MHL handbook.

For funds, ask the MHL? They have an upcoming meeting in March. They pay the costs for the select A game from the league fees the A's pay plus THE B's and 16 U teams. I believe everybody pays the same fees fo the league. Once again this shows that only a select group benefits from fees everybody is REQUIRED to pay.

I think the coaches that have been involved with this discussion have an awesome idea that will just benefit the B level even more! Great Idea.

Funds and such

Post by neefnarp »

Hi there Troll...just a quickie here...I know the first couple of "all star" games were sponsored by the Minnesota Referee's Association. They put up the ice and the refs. I don't know if that has changed or not.

Also, the JG A Select game has a defined selection process. It is on the form that asks for the coaches recommendation's for the team.

HockeyDad...All of the teams in JG A have a player chosen for the Select Game--no teams are omitted from the selection process. There have been circumstances where players have declined to attend because of other committments, injury, or whatever. Take Roseville for instance, last years # 1 pick was not allowed to play, # 2 pick had another commitment (lacrosse ??) and the # 3 pick came to the practice but hurt his ankle before the game and could not attend, therefore Roseville was not represented although they were definitely extended the opportunity.

This is a great idea and I think it would be nice for the "B" guys to have something to play for since they don't have a "State".

Jr. Gold B Selects

Post by SSPSLAUGHTERHOUSE »

I don't think the fees would be the biggest deal. What's another 20 or 30 dollars to a hockey family? A third of a stick? 4 rolls of tape? I'm not a rich boy by any means, but I think i could find that kind of money. I think the real trouble will be trying to get this all organized. I would like to suggest first off that this be an all senior event (feedback?), the coaches each select 2 or 3 players to nominate to the team, we divide into halves by teams somehow (suggestions?), each half has a short coaches some meeting where they vote and pick the people that best represent their squads, (I kinda like the idea troll is presenting where the playoff teams get preference), the coaches set up a practice for their squad and we set a date for the game a city arena somewhere (I don't know if ssp is a far drive for you guys, but i know there will be ice time available coming up once playoffs are done). A coach from each side needs to step up and take control for their half and call the coaches and see if they want to be a part of it, if not then poo on them someone will fill their spots. It would be a good show, a lot of fun, a good promo for the league to showcase the skill level we have, and a nice sendoff for the seniors.

First off, it sounds like HockeyDad1956 is going to step forward to help organize it. I agree with you on the funding. It shouldn't be too hard to come up with $25 or $30 per player.

I do however think it should be a group of only 3 or 4 coaches who pick the players to play. If you get too many people involved it could become very complicated and unorganized. Take two coaches from the WEST, like myself and EP coach and two coaches from the EAST - CoachGuy and someone else and pick the players. Just my two cents.

I would be very interested in being a part of this.
I know that our team wasn't in the playoffs, but feel that there are 1 or 2 seniors who would represent very well and if it isn't only senior then up to 4 guys from SLP's squad.

Keep me informed ---
Maybe there should be a thread just for this conversation
