way to go SSP
Hey, way to go SSP
So how does the D8 playoffs work and who gets into the regions? 1 VS 8 type thing and the winner of the brackets gets the 1ST slot and so on?
I was very impressed with the game you guys played against B'sville in the Albert Lea tourney. I didn't get a chance to watch the Championship game between U and R-red, but 2nd in that tourney is very good to. You have a Great team...Good luck in the playoffs!

D8 Standings
If Hastings, SSP, and Roch Red all have 2 losses on the season, How does Roch Red get third and SSP get first? And hastings in there somewhere? If hastings is supposedly the better team and Roch Red beat them twice, shouldnt Roch Red be 2nd and hastings first and SSP in third. Roch Red beat SSP 4-0 in the AL tourny. Sure thats not district, but that says it is possible.....so?? Anyone with an opinion?

why ssp is placed where they are
D8 has a point system. For a win you get 2 points for a tie you get 1 point and for a loss you get 0 points Since we only lost 2 district games this year and didnt tie any we have 28 points. Hastings has only lost two so far and hasnt tied any so they have 26 points. Rochester has lost 2 and tied 2 so they are even farther behind. also, we swept rochester in district play this year. Since hastings swept us. they will be in first place if they win their last game, we will be in second and rochester will be in 3rd (not a very close third either).

Adding where I can
I missed much of this week's action, but got filled in on a lot of games by other people. I heard about some great matchups and close games and one exciting finish in Burnsville. Doesn't look like we've heard much from the Tartan boys since that loss to the Braves. Would like to know how they did against Wayzata, too.

EP-Black (3) vs. Minnetonka (1)
Both teams played a very aggressive game and there was quite a bit of up and down action. The Skippers goalie played an excellent game against EP's dominant attack in the first two periods. EP held tight defensively against a tough Tonka attack at the end of period three. Good crowd, too. Tough night for the Skippers, but they played well. A Rat was even observed in the shadows. I should know, he sat next to me for a while. Somebich stole my cheese when I wasn't looking!!

Good luck to the teams with big games left. Roseville/EPRed on Tuesday in EP, and Thursday is Game Day with Tonka/Bville, Centennial/Tartan and EPRed/EPBlack.

Burnsville Weekend Games -
Very solid weekend for the Burnsville Boys. 3-0 against 3 good teams.

Friday - Bville - 4 B.P. 2
Pretty good game. Both teams were missing a key player, but pretty clean game.

Saturday - Bville - 4 Tartan - 3
What a great game. This was the best game to watch for me as a coach. We went down 2-0 after the first. Came back in the second and tied it at 3-3 going into the third. Very even game in the third. We ended up scoring with less than one minute left on the game clock to win it. Great effort by both teams.

Sunday - Bville - 4 White Bear Orange - 1
Another strong showing by the Bville boys. You would never think this W.B. team beat us 6-1 in a tournament just over a month ago. Both teams had some good chances. Very physical game.

Very good weekend. I'm proud of the boys. Hopefully there is no let down tonight against Mounds View.

BVILLE -

Dear Bville,
In regards to your inquiry about the Tartan/Wayzata score, I think you are to blame for us not knowing. Your defeat of the Titans this weekend seems to be keeping any of them from contributing to the board since then. I have tried to get the score out of Wayzata, but with it being a holiday and all, I haven't heard back. Shame on the Braves for beating those poor helpless little Titans. Maybe after today's Wayz/BP game (3:15p), the Wayz team site will be updated.

Tartan weekend
We made it through the weekend without too much damage. Lost the tough one to the Blaze. Thought we could have won that one, but a couple guys decided to be stupid.
Wayzata went well. We were missing a lot of guys, but still won it. MJB was nice enough to report the score of 8-1.
We're back to full strength now and we're going to scrimmage Hastings on Wednesday and then the season finale on Thursday against Centennial. Should be fun!

Thanks guys.
Thanks TarTitans. Impressed you didn't jump all over my sarcasm. You're better men than I, even if I was just playing. Heard a little about your team from this weekend, but still haven't seen it. I know we'll all be curious about the Hastings scrimmage and anxious about the Centennial score, so get your butts on here on Thursday night and let us know. We're counting on you! Good luck.

What a great game on Saturday. I know you guys were on the loosing end but even so, if I were to pick a game to watch that would be it. It had us all on the edge of our seats. Good possiblity we will see you in the playoffs. It would be a good rematch. Again, good game on Sat. Good luck with Centennial.
BVILLE

score
Burnsville - 3
MV Green - 0

Pretty fast and uneventful game here. Shots were about 30-10. Green likes to play the body, that's for sure. They about ripped a couple guys heads off. I think SLP won the game before us against White. Maybe SLPCoach wants to let you know. I didn't see much of it.
BVILLE

SLP @ MV-W
Monday 2/16/04
SLP (3) @ Moundsview-White (2)

Park came out playing good hockey taking a 2-0 lead in the first period. But then started playing very sloppy hockey. Giving up a quick goal to start the 2nd period and then we got caught on a line change. One of Park's Def was beat and tried to get back but could make it. He ended up going for the puck but got the legs as the player was in the slot. A penalty shot was awarded (rightfully so) and the player scored to tie it up 2-2. This was the 2nd penalty shot in one of our games this year. Both were goals, one for us, and one against. The 3rd period Park came back out and played quite a bit better again taking a 3-2 lead and then holding off MV-W for the remainder of the game.

doh
Roseville (2) @ EP red (2)

great game and we had a goal with under a minute left they said hit the post...i saw the net snap, but ill take the point. 2 of our better player will make a diffrence if we play these guys again.

I will be in attendance thursday night, should be an even better game.

Anyone friends with White Bear people?

Elk-town
Congratulations to the Elk River Elks on their regular season league championship. A solid, deserving team.

The Elks will likely include CG from RV and his Raiders (and maybe their newest sweatshirt-wearing fan) in their acceptance speech, as last night's tie with Red vaulted the Elks atop the podium.

It's gettin' close to tournament time!!

Dido to the Elk-People!
Very Impressive to see an A team run through the B level with only 2 losses. Good job to a darn good team!

RAT Double Deuce
Since you brought it up, What do you, and other people feel about "A" teams playing at the "B" level? Do you feel it is O.K. or would you rather see them playing "A"?

Very Curious to see what people think. Even if you are an "A" team at this level let's here what you think too.

BVILLE

A teams at B level
HA HA An opinion question!! Love it!!

First questions is: How many JGB teams out there have ex-Varsity or JV players on it?? If the answer it (1) one, that team should play at the JGA level (or at least that player should). Why? All the teams at the JGA level have players of this caliber. Players that have not made a HS team for various reasons (attitude, age, given up, need to work, etc.) Those players deserve the right to continue to have fun and play our great game of hockey! Enter the Jr Gold level. OK, you have a number of players at the JG level and you need to make a 2nd team due to numbers: Enter the JGB level. That's the way it should be done.

First, you've got programs like WBL, EP, Wayzata, Tonka, Edina, Bville, Osseo, Anoka, NSP, Forest Lake who all have A programs. I cannot blame WBL and EP for having many talented players in their program that compete and win.

Then you have programs like Hopkins, Buffalo, SLP, Chaska, BP & Armstrong who barely have the numbers year-in-year-out to play at the B level - they should play B.

But you have teams at a B level just to win something. Teams like Elk River, Tartan, Centennial, Rville, RAVE don't have an A team and gather kids from anywhere to compete at a level beneath where perhaps they should. That's a bummer because those players (some former varsity & JV) are competing against kids that have never seen an A team let alone been on B1 squad in their careers.

I am not saying that some of those teams listed in that last group shouldn't be at a B level, but you should understand my point. The Rat is loose.

to B or not to B
Hey, I thought that this was supposed to be a scores thread. But since you brought up the topic:

I would be nice to see more competetive games, beating up on another team 18-1 isn't really that much fun - can't even get a patch for the hat trick. Can't speak for other teams, but Tartan's team is mainly former B-C players. The goalies played a little JV for a year and a couple others watched from the bench a lot. Would be cool to have an A team and a B team some day, but we barely have enough players for one team right now (all Tartan kids though, no ringers with weird colored helmets).

Seems to me that maybe there should be a B2 or C league for the Flakes of the league. But then we'd get stuck playing the same teams 5 or 6 times a season.

Looks like ER took first, huh? No one probably knows this, but Tartan has a protest in the works v ER for using 21 players against us. No dec yet.

A teams at B level
Didnt realize our tie threw such a wrench into the whole standings!. . . After last night though i kinda wish we would have tossed in the towel, and taken that team again in the first round instead of ER. We were with out two of our best players and still managed to tie that team. Add those two and some more rest. . . hhhmmmm.

____________________

K, now the A level kids in B. this may get a bit long winded, but i feel i should defend my kids since we were put into that "you have teams at a B level just to win something" catergory.

Like i said in the thread(quality of play) i started, which might be a better place for this convo, this is my fourth year in the JGB level. Two years ago we had a team make the playoffs and we didnt have a single player who had ever played higher than C. We like to think that we had a lot to do with that, because we (step-dad/I) had coached those kids since pee wee's. A lot of that was the fact that those kids knew how to play with eachother. They were able to move up as a group and excel. By the way that year we made play offs as a below .500 team. I would say we were a lot like N. St. Paul , or SLP were this year. Great effort but just didnt have the talent to get by. If there would have been a U-16 program then we would have played it.

My point is that there is a place for everybody. We are still building this program believe it or not. My last year of hockey was the year i was the only person cut from the Roseville JGB team. Only 1 team! We need to keep players here and keep it as competitive/fun as possible.

I was originally the A team coach this year, but when we started running warm up ices and try outs we had nothing. Roseville High School cut 2 kids, and a goalie. I've got the goalie. The other two kids never should have tired out for the HS team. They are average kids on bad U-16 teams.

We could have had an A team, B team, and a U16 team this year and all 3 teams could have put up o-fers at their respective levels. After taking a look at the player rosters, i realized that we had enough players for 2 U-16 teams and one other team. At the time of warm ups i didnt have my "yellow helmets", and HAVING to declare i did and it was a B team.

One thing that killed me was the fact that nobody wanted to play at the A level. I have kids in the U16 program who are furious with me because i picked a B team with out them. Guess what kids. . . GO TO TRYOUTS! I had 12 kids show up to try outs and like i said, we are fielding 3 teams. There was no way i could field an A team. So i took the Seniors, and the top U16 kids who tried out( there are several better players down on U16) and made my "A" team into a B team with them.

As far as my team goes, a lot of people look at the yellow helmet kids and say they are the team. Disrespectful. They are at this level for a reason just like everybody else. Whether they are a head case whose superstar dreams killed thier chances of playing HS hockey because they had no idea how to play a team game at all. OR they just simply werent good enough to play JV. . . We actually are a better team W/O one of them because despite the strides we've made with this team he still makes the mistake of running his mouth and costing himself and teamates ice time. Brooklyn Park has the same number of Grace kids as our team, yet we ended up higher then them. WHY?

Your team is only as good as your worst player. Some teams chose not to play that kid/kids. You watch my team and everybody on that bench plays an equal ammount. Whether you can take a kid who thinks the idea of good is going coast to coast and getting him to head man the puck and to play with in "system", or taking that oaf of a defensman and working with him to improve foot speed and passing in traffic is up to the coaches.

Here's an idea, DON'T schedule scrimages. Use your practice ice to actually practice! We did not have a single game outside of league and tourneys. Every hour we got for practice we took it and tried to improve our team. That's one of the reasons, despite our slow start, that we have been able to climb the ranks and get back into a playoff postion. Ask anybody who played us early in the year and they will tell you this is a totally diffrent team. I credit hard work, and a willingness to change from the players and coaches for that.

I do think we are a "B" team, we are a B team that had to improve and "win out" just to get an 8 seed on the second to last game of the season.

Being put into the same catergory as Tartan and Centennial sends horrible feeling into my gut...We've got our asses handed to us by them for years. This is the second year Roseville has made playoffs. Both under my tenure, and its been done the right way both times! This is the first time in several years that Roseville hasnt had an A team, and it was a numbers/talent game. Once you figure out that not a single player in this league is going anywhere Hockey-wise and figure out that all you really are is a rec youll have more fun. My philosophy is that i am raising coaches here. I do my best to teach the game, and while do it show them the best way to teach it to somebody else. A lot of the improvement has come from my kids helping eachother out. I bet of you drop a bucket of pucks in the middle of the ice at your practice its nothing like what happens at mine. Not a single shot is taken.... WE have goals we set at the begining of the year and we have met 4 out of the 5. . . We will have to wait and see about that 5th one though <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

whew...i need a drink

mmm. . . grape pop

i like opinion questions too!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... oachGuy at: 2/18/04 10:30 pm

Re: Anyone friends with White Bear people?
Depending on when that WBLO team played FL it might be a forfeit for WBLO. A little birdy told me that they folded the FL team. Seems they didnt want to play hockey at all and only wanted to fight if they thought they could "win" one.
