Just to tell you all, the Blaine U-16 team beat Watertown AND Brookings in the junior gold B tourney in Brookings last weekend. Watertown met us in the championship and we won 5-0 but it was reasonably close. But the Brookings team didnt look as good. Blaine won 7-1 against then and the shots were one sided....... so you guys decide on the precictions after you hear this fact.

Reimann Games

Post by MNHockeyObserver »

Looks like you had two of the right teams in the right games and I had the right 4 teams, just in opposite games.

In the 3rd Place game, Edina takes on Centennial and in the Championship EP-Black takes on Brookings. Both those teams went 3-0 in their round robin play.

The SLiPpers didn't seem to fair so well. What happened? I also heard that SLP has a little #7 who likes to stick people in the nuts on the face-offs. Any truth to that?

Should make for a fun afternoon at Braemar.

Any truth to that?

Yeah, The Tourney didn't go so well for the Park players. going oh fer three. Ouch. It really kinda seems as though our guys don't show up to play during tournaments, not sure what it is.

I thought we played so-so against EP-Black, but giving up 3 goals over 30 secs at the end of the first period really hurts.

We played a good game against Centennial, I'll give our players alot of credit for playing hard the entire game. It got a little out of hand toward the end, Centennial had a 7 minute penalty with 6:58 remaining in a 3-3 tie game. But 1 minute later we got called on a penalty (evening it up?) and Centennial took a 4-3 lead while it was even strength. They popped one more in to make it 5-3 with 5 secs remaining in the game. It was a tough loss for SLP but, hopefully we can take something from a tough game like this.

Sunday we played Watertown and didn't show up to play. Our top point scorer was benched for the first period (Coaches decision), cause he couldn't keep his mouth shut against Centennial. One of our biggest hitters was bench for the first half of the first period for the same reason. SLP's coaching staff was 'warned' repeatedly for "late line changes" (I guess 2 secs is enough time to change a line?) and then with 4 minutes left, the official give us a delay of game for a line change, when he didn't even have his hand up signaling no more line changes. How can you do this in a 2-1 hockey game? Watertown added an empty netter to make it 3-1 to end the game.

As far as #7, faceoff antics. This is the first time I have ever heard anything of the sort. I have never seen him do that or heard anyone say anything about it. Do you have an example or did you see something that makes you accuse him of that?

On of the things I had seen was them treating an injured player on their bench during your game and one during the Centennial game. He told me that the one during your game was a "groin" injury inflicted on the face off after they scored. He told me shortly after another player came to the bench bent over and the players realized that both had been lined up against #7. Other players mentioned - probably complained, as they are kids - that #7 had stuck them, or tried to stick them as well.

There is a lot of stickwork in hockey, sometimes more so in Junior Gold. Believe me, I also pointed out a couple of his EP guys who did some dumb stuff, too, but thought I would ask about the groin shots.

MNHockeyObs....
Wish we could have met at the Edina Tourney as well.
Do you know who won the 3rd & Champ games?

In regards to #7, all I can say is that I will talk to him about it.
I actually have noticed that they way he was taught to check is not proper mechanics as he comes in with his arms swaying side to side, kind of old school like. Then at the point of contact he swings his arms into the man. Usually hands and elbows are low as to not have a "head check." I have, just this weekend noticed this and mentioned the way he checks is not how it should be done and have shown him now how he should hit.
However, I knew nothing about the face-off thing, again, I will talk to him about it. If this is something that he is doing during faceoffs it will stop.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... h@mnhs>SLP Coach at: 1/19/04 4:15 pm

In fact, I do know . . .

Brookings beat Eden Praire in the final, 3-2 and Centennial beat Edina for 3rd place. I think the score was 3-1 Centennial. Didn't see much of the Championship game, but I can ask.

Reinmann Tourney

Post by RinkRat22 »

I did see the Championship game and was witness to a sound Brookings team beat a frustrated EP Black team. It looked as though the goaltender from Brookings was the hero for the Champions of the Reinmann Tourney. As they were physical with an over-confident EP squad. The best player for EP was #2 and he was ejected for the 3-penalty rule. Perhaps they ran out of gas? But EP looked tired.

As far as the antics use by #7 for SLP. It was reported by a Tonka observer that he, in fact, jammed a couple of players off faceoffs during MTKA/SLP last week. I believe he was also ejected for pleasantries.

I have to ask SLP-guy, why do you question the call on ice in all of your messages? You are obviously frustrated with the play of your o-fer squad. Perhaps you should take a hard, long, look within and ask yourself why do you get mad at the things you cannot control. Believe me, I have been where you are. Frustrated with everything else but what is in front of you. Your team is not good. Face that and then you'll have fun again. Trust me.

Rink Rat:

First of all #7 was not ejected from the SLP/Tonka Game, and he did not play center that game until the late in the 3rd period. I have talked to him about these "rumors" (because at this point, to me, that is all they are) and said that I will be watching him. If I see this type of thing happen there will be consiquences. Therefore, for now I believe this is enough on this topic.

Secondly, I don't believe that I have questioned the call in all of my posts. I do admit that I am a bit frusterated with the outcome of our team's games as of late. I have questioned two calls here, one the delay of game and one in the Tonka game. If we would have won both of these games would I still question the call, YES. But a tie and a close loss doesn't change my feeling on them. One of the things I have questioned more than any is our teams "Will to Win" but that doesn't show up on these boards. I'd say that we do not have a bad team. We also do not have a Top 5 team, but I do say that our team is a good one. I always have fun with this group of guys. Win, Lose or Draw.

I stand corrected, SLP, you are an "Oak". It seemed to me that you have been on the short end most often. I just wanted to help if I could. I appreciate your helpful hints in return. From what I have seen from the SLP JGB, you have a hard playing, no-nonsense, tough bunch of kids who are perhaps a little under-manned and under-disciplined. Merely the opinion of "One Caged Rat". Good luck the rest of the way. Remember: to make all this matter you must finish in the top 12!

After our little tussle (go-around) to start things off, I have come to respect your opinion. I appreciate the advice, as I know that I, if not as much possibly more than others could use advice. I always look forward to coming on these boards to not only see what you, but MNHockeyObs, Freightrain, B'Ville and CoachGuy have to say.

I understand where you are coming from, I am sure your are speaking from past experience. However, many players from our team read these boards, and as their coach, I feel that I must defend if not support their actions. Basically I believe in our team and I hope that they believe in themselves. Sometimes the things I say on these boards are not so much to share things with others as it is to show my belief in our team.

~SLP~ Like we talked about:
Together
Everyone
Achieves
More!!!

I hope that the rest of the people who read this can understand that.
