Selfish Hockey players

Post by Hockey Fan »

I went to a lot of youth hockey games last season and witnessed a lot of players who played selfishly, did not pass the puck when they should have, which might have made a difference in winning or losing a game. So many kids are playing for themselves and not for the team. What do you all think about this?

alot of kids think they can do it on their own...that or they dont trust the other kids....in the end once they get to high school theyll have to figure out that you cant win on your own hockey is a team sport...

Here is what we do...

I help coach a youth team. There are two kids in particular that are just overall better than the rest. However, they cannot due it all and we still want them to play as a team. Here is what we do... We downplay goals as well as individual play and we have really emphasized backchecking, defensive hockey as well as assists. It has made a huge difference! The two players mentioned above have responded very well and they seemed to ALL play well as a team during this past season...
