Can bsm even put up a fight in AA, I mean im not saying their horrible, but i dont know that they'll have any chance of getting out of 6AA

About Benilde, it looks like they aren't graduating many seniors. Also they have a good goalie I believe. I think he'll be a junior next year. They should have a chance next year.

yes, i realize that but check their record this year.. what 8 losses? and they really didnt play anyone, they tied breck once i think, and i know they beat burnsville, otherwise i think they had an easy scedule

I am glad Benilde moved to AA. Now there is only 3 Private schools in our section. However, it still wont matter, Spring Lake Park will still have to play two of them including the championship game and they can't even beat one of them. Oh well, I guess.

This is in the Wednesday Star Trib, explaining how the sections are drawn up Chris Franson, the league's technology director, was in charge of the resectioning. It was based on geographical continguity and numerical balance. In other words, putting schools close in proximity in the same section and keeping the number of teams from section to section close in the same class. Most teams in all sports stayed in the same section. But as always, some teams moved up in class, some down, and some changed sections in the same class. Franson said the league did not alert its 485 schools the new competitive section assignments are available on its website, but word is getting out fast: The site had 4,500 hits by early Tuesday afternoon. He said he has had only about seven calls on the section assignments so far, fewer than he expected. The league's athletic directors advisory committee approved the new section assignments Feb. 28. The executive committee of the league's board has, too, pending a vote of the full board April 7.

So Becker/Biglake is in 8AA now?I guess that is good for Monticello , they wont have to be thrashed by Moorhead in the first round any more

So it sounds like "competative balance" has nothing to do with it. Makes me wonder who is on this advisory commitee though.

I am glad that now the high school league is compensating an "IT" department that has the ability to determine geographical contiguity and ascertain numeric balance. I will make a real bold statement here stating that a few guys sitting around the local saloon drinking a beer and smoking cigars would have had better success in determining geographical contiguity and numeric balance. I do realize that we are talking about what maybe approx 75 AA teams, a number of such overwhelming proportions, I also would not leave it to a common sense approach, it's also much better to remove the human element. It's much easier to blame a computer program.

You don't have the AD from a Section 7AA school campaigning to keep Elk River out of their district, for example. Every year there are winners and whiners in the process. The new sections for example, take Hutchinson out of our football section and our girls basketball team away from Minneapolis North section, and keeps our girls hockey team in 1A, where they've dominated the last two years. You won't hear much crying about that from our coaches,

AD's are still involved.

I misspoke on one of my points. The human element in fact will come into play, IE, the athletic directors advisory committee approval and the ultimate decision to approve/disapprove realignments will be up to the full board. I am sure they will have the ability at that time to determine the flaws of a computer program that was apparently designed at a time when the mapping processes assumed that the earth was flat. They will undoubtedly send this back to committee for reevaluation. NOT

Centennial might be a few miles closer to Duluth than Elk River, but Circle Pines/Lino Lakes/Blaine (Any other towns in the Centennial district?) are considered closer suburbs than Elk River, which is kind of out away from everything, is. Its too bad none of the "poor" sections really improved much, but i'm glad they are keeping in geographical, and not trying to move good programs around. That is what the state tournament is all about. Anyone have any idea who will be good in section 1 A/AA next year? Alexandria should help 4A and Little Falls was really young, so that section isnt as bad. In 2AA, Tartan will be down but Cretin should be much improved and Hastings bantams were in the state tourney so maybe in 2 years they'll be back to where they were 4-5 years ago.

Puckster, I'm also glad 3AA wasn't split up. Extremely competitive section, and I think some fans are only looking for the easiest way to state. I don't think Hastings will get much better until they get a coaching change. Welch doesn't seem to keep his players around anymore, and seems to be losing control of the players he has. They defiantly grow their share of talent though.

you have to thinl tho if they did split the section 3AA up then the top team would be in state every year and not just one cuz their should be about 4 teams that go to state from section 3AA. WBL CENTENNIAL HILL ROSEVILLE the curse lives on

Happens every year in 5a too. But seems to make the team from that section much tougher for the "show". Unless it is WBL> Not a rip., but man, 17 times one and done, what is that all about?

i have no clue but ever sence wbl marriner took 2nd in state we have never been able to make it past the first round and thats why its called the flipper curse or just plan the curse the curse lives on

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Every time WBL has made it to state, it has been a really tough game. Usually it's Hill. Centennial a couple of times. It's called an emotional let down. Ask Hill how they did after beating Moorhead.

What upsets me the most about the section realignment is that we have to listen to the SAME people bitch about how unfair their secion is for another TWO YEARS!!!!! 1A picked up Austin which finished the year as a pretty good club.They played Century tough every time they played them and took AL into O.T. They loose their top forward another decent forward and 3 starting 'D', but return the best defenseman in the big-9, a good group of forwards (6-7) and both goalies. They'll be a favorite for 1A along with East.They return both goalies, 8 of 9 forwards and 3 of 5 'D' from a club that went 17-11. Marshall and New Ulm will also be in the hunt, returning a large group of starters. None will be on a level with this years AL club unless they pick up an outstanding transfer or two, but any of them will make a respectable showing at state. Century looses 10 starters plus Kangas, but their jr/soph group went to state as bantams and will probably rebound and still be a favorite in 1AA. JM has a good nucleus of returning players and Mayo has the best player in the big-9 (Canzenello) coming back. Those 3 plus a much improved Faribault club will fight it out for the section unless Lakeville keeps all their top players on 1 team.
