Edina and Moorhead
I will say that Edina and Moorhead will win the respective crowns today.

With Moorhead having a solid group of juniors and freshmen it looks like they will make a strong run at the elusive title in the coming years.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Lee of Roseau
now I admit I have alittle bias toward Roseau in the Pee Wee state tourney but can anyone argue that Michael Lee from Roseau is the story of this tourney? 64 saves in a 4-2 win over Cent in round one and 31 saves in a 1-0 to WBL in round two! For all you math majors out there thats 95 saves on 98 shots. Now with my cousin playing on this team I have seen alot of there games and in all my years don't remember watching a goalie as good as him at that level.Yes WBL's goalie has 2 shut outs but no where near the work that Lee has seen. Good luck Roseau in the 3rd place game we're all pulling for you back home

Rochester Bantam A's
Quote by jr

Quote:
Hermantown must have a heck of a bantam team. That's an all star team out of the whole city of Rochester.

That's a popular opinion about Rochester North A teams, and while not really the case, it's not too far off. Rochester youth hockey politics could be a thread all by itself, I suppose, but since it came up here, I don't mind putting in my 2 cents worth.

I'm a Rochester hockey dad, my kids go to Mayo H.S. There are 4 high schools in town, and the powers that be in the Rochester Youth Hockey Association (by and large Northside parents) have tried both openly and covertly to create only one Bantam A team that will "be competitive." In other words a teame to win tournaments, including the state tournament. When they attempted to do this openly, MAHA basically told them "since you have 4 high schools, no way." So in order to get around this, they've done the following"

All kids that want to try out for bantam A's are thrown into one big pool, and from that they pick out the 30 best skaters and 4 best goalies. Then the 34 kids are geographically sorted, and split into north and south. If there should be more north kids selected than south, the north coach(es) select their top choices and the rest are relegated to the south team. Oh, and BTW, the boundary line that seperates north and south includes at least 75% of the population north of the line.

Basically, all of Rochester Century and Rochster John Marshall are included in the north, and likely 2/3 or more of those kids that attend Rochester Lourdes. Rochester Mayo kids are basically excluded from the quasi-all star bantam A team.

The interesting thing, in my mind, is how the high school teams shake out. This year Mayo was 2-2 against Century and JM, beating each one, and losing to each. Century went the furthest in playoffs, (though all 3 teams were so even, it could have been any of them,) and they easily have the largest student enrollment (plus 2 of Winona's best former players). So I guess what I'm saying is that despite the RYHA's method of stacking the north bantam A team, in the end things turn out pretty much like you'd figure. It's just too bad that Rochester south (Mayo) kids don't have a realistic chance to be on a truly successful youth hockey team. And it's all really because a small group of parents want to have a powerful team for their kids.
