Cent, the next super power

Cent looks ready to make a long run of title games in AA over the next few years. Will they be the next super power? Also what changes did they make in the program to get it to this point, cause this isn't going to be a one hit wonder, was it the youth coaches? At any rate congrats to you guys, keep up the good work!

I don't know all the facts, but I do know that the area Cent. serves is big on hockey. They definitely have good coaches at all levels in their youth program. But, one reason I see as a big one, is that the area is exploding in terms of population. Four, maybe five years ago, they built a new middle school and combined the old HS and old MS to form on large HS (on the same grounds). Half way through building the MS, they determined it wasn't going to be big enough within 5 years (or something close to that). They built a new elementary about 2 years ago. They also added onto the current HS, adding more classrooms and a new level. The area's just exploding, I'm wondering when you'll see "Centennial East" and "Centennial West"! When I graduated, 3 years ago, my class was 400 people and every class below me was bigger. I have a brother 4 years behind me who's class is 600+. Crazy. Population wise, they have and will have a lot of kids to chose from. Also, I'd say the balance of kids that go there are middle to upper middle class. Not wealthy by most standards, but their parents can afford to let them play hockey.

WITH A PROGRAM ON THE MOVE WHEN DO YOU FORESEE A RINK THAT CAN HOLD MORE THAN 1000 FANS. THE RINK IS A JOKE.

Maybe, the Super Rink that opened in the fall of 1998 when most of the Championship team would have been Pee Wees had a contributing factor. Does anyone know how many of the Centennial players participated in the Programs offered at the Super Rink? It looks like the Super Rink people could be proud of how things turned out.

The rink was more than adequate until this season. There are some changes on the horizon and potentially another to be built. They already have one at the Super Rink, so that would make 3. Agreed for some of the top notch games this year it was inadequate for fans, great for the players.

most kids who play for Centennial hate everything about the superrink and would like to spend as little time as possible there just because there used to walking 100 feet from the classroom to the rink.

I read somewhere that the kids in Centennial do a alot of skating outdoors in backyard rinks, and etc. I believe that is the reason they are successful - they encourage their parents to build and maintain outdoor ice for their players. The kids learn more, have more fun, and don't have coaches telling them what to do - so they can get really creative. I'm sure Centennial does a lot of other stuff, but the rink rat hockey gives them the edge.

They could put together a dynasty but this song has been sung before. Just because all the ingredients are there, doesnt mean it will happen. Even schools with continuous big numbers and good programs deal with down cycles. But having said that, Centennial youth and high school deserves a lot of credit. One and counting? Maybe.

The cougars have a fantastic program from top to bottom,but...when you have all that talent funneling up to a 20 man varsity roster how do you keep everybody happy ?Will they be able to keep all those guys at Centennial?I guess we will see in the next couple years how that works for them.

Centennial Sports Arena is a very nice complex. How many high schools in the Twin Cities have their own rink owned by the school? Sure more seating would be nice but had they pushed for a bigger rink the community at the time would have never gone for it. This program is solid because of many factors from families, coaches and the kids putting in the time needed to be successful.

Exploding population will more than likley lead to what was mentioned above... Centennial East ect. School's being formed. Also with such great players coming up, they'll start drifting away some will leave to juniors, and I'm sure a handful will go to Ann Arbor over the years. Does anyone really think Centennial would have gotten by Holy Angels if Hagemo and Frazee would have stayed?

I go to Centennial, and having the rink on site is pretty good, i mean we dont have to share it at all, but i do think the seating sucks...we have a 900 firecode max..but do occasionally squeeze more people in..aside from the seating i think its a pretty good arena for being so old...

I agree with SS. I mean ,the issue is whose mom is tougher ...not the most beautiful. As to the comments of BEARS06. Pretty soon in the not too distant future,far ,far away, you will be walking through an airport and the anouncements will be made not in English, not in Spanish but thats rigtht , you guessed it...in Anglitch. You will be late for your flight or go to the wrong gate simply because you failed to learn Anglitch. Every one else on the board is making an effort to learn it and enjoys it. I think thats pretty clear. Before this decade is out ,Anglitch will be the official language of the world and we will land bluesbuddy on the moon and return him safely to earth after the sensible Amelia wears off. So, let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe a like that the torch has been passed to a new generation of posters. Posters who do not shrink from the responsibility to learn Anglitch but welcome it.

slapshooter do you coach, play or own these teams? You keep referring to them as "My Teams!" Just wondering?????????????? Moorhead should be one of the favorites in AA. Then again you already handed them the trophy before they ever played the Cougars once this year. 0-2! Better luck next year!

Voitglander will step right in at D next year. This kid was the first freshman to ever make the Cougar football team and he kicked a 48 yd. fg as a 9th grader.
