Coaches of the Year
Coaches of the Year
Haven't heard who the coaches of the year are yet, but I have to say Hibbing's head coach did a GREAT job this season getting his team steered in the right direction. Really a nice job guiding his team to a third place finish. I know there was a coaches thread but was unable to find it. Also liked the job Orono's first year coach did. Kudos to both of them....<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... smokin.gif ALT=":smokin">

Re: Coaches of the Year
Mr. Decenzo of Hibbing should receive this one! He took a team that allegedly was not supposed to make it down to the state two consecutive years and received hardware both years (5th place in 2003 and 3rd place in 2004). This coach deserves alot of recognition for preparing his team to play at their potential. This is a no brainer!

He put everything he had into getting the boy(s) his due rewards. "Luke.......I'm your father" The force will be with him next year. C to JV is quite an acomplishment. As for Rutt,<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":\"> Maybe in his next life.

Daves a Killer, Daves a mess

Re: Coaches of the Year
Congratulations to Coach Aus from Centennial. He really works hard day in and day out. The coaching staff at Centennial deserves this. As a former player for all 3 coaches at Centennial I know they really deserve this and it was a good pick to choose them.

Congrats: Coach Aus, Tolk, and Marsh

Nice Job Erik!
Congratulations Erik on being named AA coach of the year by your peers. Those that have coached realize the immense pressure put on all coaches and many times it doesn't seem fair.

Erik you started at Centennial in 1987 and you have helped build quite a program. I know you would be the first to say thousands of people are responsible but you are a part of that. This program was built from the ground up and you are tremendously active in the youth program.

You have had two state tournament quality teams. Last year the boys played their hearts out only to be stonewalled by an awesome goaltender. This year you started the year #1 and ended it the same way. Along the way the boys were 6-0 vs. teams ranked 2-4.

During the year the team was questioned for supposedly running up the score. What a joke!! I challenge anyone to find a team in the past 20 years that had to play the whole month of January against teams that the outcome was already decided. No Holy Angels does not fill that bill. In fact I looked and during every January in recent memory they had losses, close games including ties. You and I know that you received a letter from Monticello thanking your team for showing class by not running up the score. Being ahead 10-0 after seven minutes and winning 18-0 is NOT running up the score. The Monticello letter wished you the best and also said they were pulling for you at STATE.

Being able to keep the team focused during that month before the playoff stretch is amazing. You have always been a defensive minded coach and it paid off BIG TIME in the tourney. As RJ said, "The coaches know best!" Not the supposed experts on the outside looking in!

Erik you have stated over and over again to me and others that this team was special and easy to coach. You are the type of person that has always put the kids first.

Congratulations to all the players and coaches on a memorable season! In my humble opinion this team will go down as one of the best. That is up for debate which is fine!

Centennial has arrived on the high school scene!!
