Holy Angels v Centennial

Post by Sparlimb »

I noted most of you picked Centennial to win the whole deal, so obviously you feel they will handle Holy Angels. But I'm not so sure (I picked HA). Centennial got through the sections this year, although not as easily as most had predicted. Now they are in the show for the first time. Talk all you want about pee wee and bantam state titles. This is the show, and Holy Angels has been there and won it. I think it will take Centennial a good period to get started, and I look for Holy Angels to jump on them quickly. I expect a great fast paced game and predict Holy Angels to win 5-3. Rip away...

If I could only pick one game to watch of all the games, this would be it. Believe it or not the second one would be Warroad-Orono. Go figure. Drop the puck!

This is the game to catch Centennial

Post by JLS 81 »

If you are going to stop Centennial from getting to the final in the torunament it will be in the first game. Much like East had Anoka "on the ropes" in game one (for the eventual state champs) last season. The first period could answer a lot of questions. If Trebils highly recruited bunch can jump on a few early goals than they will pull the upset of the number 1 team. If Centennial weathers the early jitters they can win. I do hope they can get the win as a Centennial-Moorhead matchup Saturday night would be real nice. Not to mention I prefer the teams that try to build from their association stock that is just one guys opinion on things and is not meant to denigrate the privates.

Centennial may have two strikes against them right now.

1) No past experience (as previous poster nicely stated)
2) May have peaked too early

But ....

AHA doesn't have the best record against top rated teams. I don't think that AHA can score enough goals to win. Looking for a great game.

Holy Angels

Post by Hip Tzech »

I am picking Holy Angels on this one. I am a little concerned about Holy Angels goal tending, but I am looking for a strong team in front of him. As mentioned Holy Angels has been there the last 3 of 4 years, that can take the leaders and put them at a higher level, player for player. Trebil has been there (big games other than the tourney) on several levels and I expect that experience to complete the team.
If Centennial gets past Holy Angels, I don’t see them getting past Wayzata. This team is deep and has solid goaltending. If and when they get through the top of the bracket, I predict they will run out of gas against Moorhead.

Enjoy the show…..

help me out here. yep, i'm pulling for the cougs. when did they peak early? when they beat roseville and wbl, way. in dec. or when they beat duluth, tg, moorhead in feb. or when they beat hill last fri.?? i'm confused. hill was a great game, that if anything, reminded cent not to overestimate anyone. they got the scare they needed and overcame it. as far as being in the big show. there is some merit there but the swan cup really had all the makings of the state tourney. great teams on great ice and decent crowds. they handled holy, despite being down going into the 2nd and 3rd and came out victorious. what surprised me was scrimmaging holy only 4 days later at marriucci thinking they (holy) would want to show cent. how good they really are and basically played terrible hockey. i'm hoping both teams come out flying and hitting and look forward to a great game. no tickets left. all sold out. should be big. go cougs!!

Game Analysis

Post by fstop95 »

I must agree with Centennial being an all around big game team this year. I tend to think not being there might be an advantage. I sensed Hill put way too much pressure on themselves Friday with the tradition and all nipping at their heals all game. Centennial started the year ranked #1, which when you stop to think about it, was pretty amazing for a team that didn't even make state last year (or ever). They look to be a team destined to define this final chapter of the journey of building a program from the ground up. I like the fact they are deep with three very good lines. Both goalies in this tilt could make it interesting. Both teams will play hard and I look for Centennial to get it done in a close game. Gorowsky wants to prove he's the real deal and yet I know AHA thinks they can beat them. You just plain have to love this state tournament, it will not dissappoint! Pick: CHS-Wins 4-2

cent vs. aha

Post by Bbengal »

it's hard to pre- determine this game but i will say that gorowsky will have a big game and one of the worst goalies in the league(greg stutz) will be a factor in the 1 goal loss to aha

I made my peaking early comment by looking at the scores, the cougars were demolishing everyone early on (even the top teams). The Moorehead game and Hill games were a little closer than I expected. Could be that everyone else was getting a little better through the season.

Stutz doesn't not = weakness

Post by formercentgoalie »

C'mon now Bbengal, I know Centennial's technically in Blaine, and some of the kids on the team surely live in Blaine, but quit crying because your team didn't do anything this year. Stutz is not a bad goalie, and there are many worse in "the league." Stutz makes an adequate amount of saves for his team to win the game. I know getting shutouts isn't impressive when the other team takes 5 shots, but he stops all he has to. If my memory serves me correctly....he's only lost once all season. And, is leading the state (according to Star Tribune) in GAA and save %. That's a pretty lousy goalie. .....right.....<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

Centennial AHA

Post by metromick »

Centennial felt more pressure to get out of the section than they will feel against AHA. The section title was the first monkey off their back and they will come loaded for bear in round one of the tourney. After they dispatch AHA by 4-2, the "Win State" monkey will climb on the Cougs back, so the trouble game is Wayzata.

Wayzata gets to shed their only monkey (making state) by playing Tartan. This is an excellent club that plays in big games all year against the Lake teams. Look for them to be hitting stride as an 'underdog' in game 2. Cent will need their best game. If they bring it, they beat anybody. A step off and they lose, then Wayzata surprises Moorhead 3-2 for the big hardware.

Good analogy metromick, i agree with the statements about the monkey with Centennial it is 100% true. I think AHA will come out fresh and ready for some revenge, they want to win. As far as the starting goaltender, as far as I know it is Keton Smith. He should be ready and is ALOT improved from the last Centennial game and the Eastview game. I say AHA 5-3, should be an excellent game with a great atmosphere.

Centennial will win. Both teams have mediocre goalies, but Cent will over power AHA in a closely fought game.

In Hollywood

Post by metromick »

If you put the tournament story in the hands of a Hollywood screenwriter, THEN Moorhead would be disappointed if Cent loses. In real life they'll smile and say good riddance.

They might be a bit frustrated as middle-agers if they win it all without avenging Centennial, kind of like winning a Gold when the Russians boycotted in '88, but a State Title Trophy in the Tater Factory would make up for the lack of gravy.

Vid Scout - you can always see Centennial in the Consolation bracket. Da Spuds can settle the score with them at noon on Saturday. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

There is NO WAY Centennial is gonna give up 5 goals...
I'm not saying it's not gonna be a close game but AHA 5-4 just isn't going to happen. I say Centennial 4-2

AHA

Post by dandill15 »

Hockey Goalie why can't Centennial give up 5 goals, pro teams give up 10 or more sometimes on Monday the Canucks gave up 9 and in the NHL all goalies are good and players are more evenly matched AHA is the real deal just watch and see.

i have seen them play, they are a very good hockey team all the way around. they are indeed "the real deal." I never said anything disputing that. I also never said Centennial "can't" give up five goals, I said they "won't." Obviously I affended in some way...i retract my former statement...I now say Centennial 3-2...there is that better??

Also...the Canucks gave up 9 goals to the Avalanche...I'm sorry but those two teams are NOT as evenly matched as AHA and Centennial...and honestly...you can hardly complare NHL to MNSHL...its apples and oranges.

AHA

Post by dandill15 »

Also whether or not Centennial loses and whether or not tehy should have one thats too bad becasue last year AHA should have won state but Ben Luth started the Anoka game and let up two weak goals on two shots and was pulled so just becasue Centennial might be the best team in state tehy still lose rarely but they still do to teams like Edina and AHA is better than Edina.
