I usually try and stay out of this recruiting debate but I thought I'd point out that sometimes the biggest "recruiting" tool the private schools have is the inefficiency of the public schools. Case in point, just over a month ago the Osseo school district decided or was in the process of ...

Congratulations boys, you put on a show this weekend that no one will soon forget. The H-M community is extremely proud tonight as it's been too long since that last championship banner was hung back in '91. Joe Phillippi, what an outstanding performance, no better way to end a terriffic four year c...

For Hill-Murray how much more motiviation do you need, hardly anyone is giving them a chance yet you're playing on semifinal Friday at the X with an opportunity to knock off the undefeated, defending state champions who have won 40+ in a row...it doesn't get any better than that!!! I think Hill will...

I think these teams played in the opening round of the 2002 tournament (when Lakeville was still one school) and I recall Hill squeaking one out 3-2 in overtime when everyone thought they would advance easily. If Hill comes ready to play next week they should be fine but hopefully they understand th...

Observations from Tuesday night: HM: I don't know how else to describe the first period other than Operation Shock and Awe. They put on a show in probably the best period I've seen them play all year. If not for the MV goalie it could have easily been 8-0 after one. If they can sustain that type of ...

I'm hoping for six overtimes but I'll take the Bears 5-4 in double OT Pioneerprideguy is right, when you're trying to get to state, no matter what team you are, you'll take any advantage you can get and if that means hoping the teams you may end up playing in the section final have to duke it out th...

If the Bears win tonight they should be the #2 seed. If White Bear loses or ties, and Roseville ends up finishing with a better conference record, Roseville should get the #2 seed. If they end up with the same conference record (both are 10-4-1 right now in the SEC right?), White Bear should get the...

Do you really think that the private schools only have "rich" kids playing there. Look at the rosters a little more in detail and stop making naive comments like that.... I know...I agree with you. I didn't say that all the private schools would fall into the rich category. That was part ...

Sorry Zamman but the current tourney does not work the way it is. We need to get back to one tournament and send the "privates" back to their own invitational the way it used to be You want to go to a private school and leave your poor public school friends behind........have at it Yes be...

This section is tough to predict just based on what has happened so far in the regular season. Hill is the best team in theory but the fact that they split their regular season matchup with Tartan could make for an interesting 1 vs. 4 semifinal if those seedings hold true. White Bear and Roseville h...

Speaking of Jim O'Brien, I am a die hard Gopher hockey fan and I love MN high school hockey, but have never heard of this kid until recently. Could anyone tell me where he's from, and where he's playing now???

Gotta agree with you flynn, Chucko had a disappointing 4 goals and 9 assists in the 33 games that he played last season. I don't know how anyone can think he is ready to make the jump to the next level.

Re: Sheet Size at the DECC

I actually prefer to watch Gopher hockey (or college games on a big sheet) over Pro hockey. I love the open style of play that the big rink allows, it's so much more fun to watch in my opinion. There is a lot more flow to the game. I think for high school play however, they should stick to the small...

Re: Early Departures From WCHA

Just saw on the news that Danny Irmen has also decided to leave college early. A lot of people saw this coming but it's still a tough blow for the Gophers to lose Irmen and Potulny. And who knows who else might leave before next season begins.

Re: Potulny

I think it's ridiculous that Potulny is not one of the three finalists, if anything, he should take the spot of Chris Collins. Collins was second in points, points per game and shorthanded goals. Potulny on the other hand LED the Nation in points, points per game, goals per game, and power play goal...

Any arena that has stands on only one side is trash. North St. Paul and Forest Lake are two of the worst that I can think of.
