To start, let me wish you the best of luck. Considering alternatives to your local public high school is quite a process and takes courage. Be prepared to be talked about and ridiculed. My first piece of advice is to pick a school where your daughter will flourish both academically and socially. You...

Agree that some coaches may not make contact until after JuniorFest. We went through a similar experience. In fact, the first home visit we had was from a school that had never contacted our daughter previously. We asked the coaches we met what led to their interest in our daughter. The coaches talk...

Our experience with Division 1 recruiting is that while Junior Fest does give exposure to Division 1 schools, if your daughter is not on their radar already, they will not be spending much time looking at her. One way you know if she is on the radar is if she had received any e-mail from them during...

It appears that there is only one team - Ice Cats from Minnesota. http://www.proamhockey.com/Womens%20Chowder%20Cup/2010/AA%20teams.htm Other teams may invite potential recruits. Team Celine, for example, is often made up of potential Harvard re...

Last year, the organizer told me that there were girls that might have been in the A pool that were placed in the B pool because they replied too late. We heard from several coaches that they came to Junior Fest with a list of players they were coming to watch. That being said, if you are an A pool ...

My experience is that Women who choose to pursue an athletic sport in College do it because they love the sport. When you love something, you choose to devote time to it. This means that you sacrifice things like sororities, parties, Saturday afternoon football games and other social events that are...

Cease and desist. Polls naming individual players should be taken off the forum. These awards are not popularity contests. Voting on a forum is. Happy to have discussion about the positive merits of players nominated. Its an honor to be chosen. This type of polling takes away from the honor.

St. Louis Park goalie played extremely well tonight and had it at a 2-0 game about half way through the second. But the constant barage of shots was the downfall. Irondale looks ready for the Benilde game Saturday for the conference crown. Good luck to both teams. Looking at the stats, is it true t...

Hannah Brandt is an amazing player. As the stats imply, it doesn't matter if she plays first or second line. Get her the puck and she will make things happen. She is fortunate, however, that she is on a team and playing for a coach that recognizes that and makes sure she gets passed the puck. That d...

The only solace I can provide to OnTheEdge regarding the situations I've seen is that it doesn't take away from a younger player if a coach gives a V spot to someone who is likely not to play. This younger player is better off playing JV than sitting the bench. Often, coaches will have a promising p...

Approved and fair are two different things. Potentially they're approved but it isn't fair.
1. MSHSL publishes the rules.
2. Players conform to the rules and change schools.
3. Players are approved to play.

Sounds fair to me.

Any Coach that allows a player who is not registered with the high school should suffer the same fate. What should be the penalty for people on a public forum questioning...
