Two pieces of advice . Get a Sweet-stick for $20.00 at HG or Total Hockey. When you are stuck in a long tournament it will 100% do the job. We have one on our bench all the time. #2 get a Wissota sharpener and make your life a lot easier. $800 new or $500 used. Short of those two ideas you will alwa...

It’s a matter of sheer mass (reference to 3 Blaine kids) with this deal, not enough families are joining to support the ice time purchased and the educational component. One has to wonder if Breakaway will suffer the same fate in a year or two? Capitalism will surely tell us if this can be sustained...

After the games we walked across the street and hopped on the mountain bikes and hit the trails for a couple hours. We hit Vi's pizza one night and Giant's Ridge Lodge another night. What Freddie writes about it being a different tournament is right in that your not just at the rink, you're at a tou...

You have an out my friend. Lacrosse is much more exciting than baseball and the runt will better prepare himself for hockey as well. Make the switch next summer and start enjoying summer sports more. Also you should be happy you're not watching soccer. No offense to soccer moms reading this post. :l...

I can say we (our A team) really liked it. It is probably in large part because there were more A teams in our district than other districts. We played a number of AA teams and while we only probably won 5 of those games it was beneficial for the boys. Tournaments were a bit of an issue because it w...

What I've seen so far is our A team is in a great spot when playing other A teams in districts where they field both A and AA. We field both AA and A in our association. We have 9 1st yr guys so it is outstanding development for them. To be honest with you I'm sure there is apprehension on any AA's ...

I will say this about ranking the squirts, it's a VERY good indicator or where these associations are headed (Pee Wees and Bantams). In that respect it has value. Edina's current Bantam Team, PL's Pee Wee team from last year both did extremely well in squirts (and in Fargo) so as they move up in age...

Top Pee Wee A teams will get 140 + hours of overall ice this season. They will see 65 games against very good competition. I don't think Tier 1 is going to appreciably add much more value than that, I don't know how that is humanly possible given these top teams literally take 2 days off a month. No...

If you can find a team with a highly respected paid non parent coach - you will find stability. Stability in AAA hockey is lack of turnover. If you find a team with only one open roster spot and 25 kids are all fighting for it, then all other things being equal (level, distance,etc..) I would have h...

Agreed that we have two problems with the sticks. There is a guy out of Orono that does mid stick repairs for $30, I'll get his company name and throw it out here. I believe he places a piece of light weight aluminum in the middle and seals it up. The flex point might be the issue with that repair m...

If you want to make your sticks last 50% longer put some epoxy on the tip and all the way around the bottom. Any hardware store sells the twin tubes of epoxy, which cost about $4.00. Mix the two tubes together, just a little bit, and paint a thn layer all the way around the stick end and bottom. Let...

I have a bigger issue with playing in a tourney that isn't up to the teams' level. But they don't enjoy ripping through a tourney as much as you might think. The kids and the parents like competition, thats what they thrive on. Winning a lower level tourney is something that the director of that org...

Many times the subs are just that - for one weekend. The really good players are asked to sub more often and their opportunities to skate become even more frequent with every sub situation. So you end up seeing their names in more books. With the MN Machine Black teams it's all part of their program...

You have to look at the research behind this decision, it's not completely conclusive in that are two factors pulling at each other. Which one is better or less destructive? Injuries at the PW level dropped significantly in Quebec versus Alberta, where checking is allowed, but at the Bantam level wh...
