Decide Game results On Ice

I started a new thread that deserves consideration. The copy is from another post I just posted. I have several points I would like to make and anyone who can direct them into the right person to answer I would appreciate. Or answer on your own and rip me...I can take it., Proctor played the Duluth ...

Proctor Clarification

To clarify redlights post regarding Proctor: Lakers coach did question the officials how many penalties the player in question had. The officials response was four penalties and the officials allowed the player to continue to play. After the game the officials realized a scorebook error. Lakers did ...

I prefer the tournaments that use the least goals scored against instead of goal differential. This eliminates the need to run up scores. I also like the next tie breaker to be least penalty minutes against. Reward clean hockey while keeping all the kids on the ice.

I have firsthand knowledge that the point system for next years BTB tourney will be corrected. As far as the officiating....that is not a reflection on the Storm Association, but rather the pool of available officials from the Duluth area who were available. Yes they may have seemed to let the kids ...

off season hockey

The deal with off season hockey is you want to build the base. The more kids playing off season hockey the better. The more AAA (summer) teams the better. The more ice time the better. What end result will this give? A larger pyramid of kids skating in the summer which will raise the level of play i...

I would be curious to see what kind of team the Wings and the Stars would field if they had a tryout process which selected the best kids from these two teams along with the other top end talent they have overlooked. At all age levels. I would suspect that could be a team to rival the Blades and Mac...

AAA gone bad

I agree that the number of AAA teams seems to be in a trend where the number of teams far exceeds the talent levels. I have no problem with kids playing summer hockey. I wish more would do so. But to honestly name every summer hockey team AAA is getting ridiculuos. I understand their is the invite a...

I agree that it is imperative kids play at the correct level. I will throw out a couple of scenarios regarding numbers I have seen. Peewee level 22 skaters...do you go one or two teams? Peewee and bantam level 24 skaters...two or three teams?? Keeping in mind that the roster must be limited to 20 or...

I am also curious to see when our youth will start playing baseball in the winter. I t could be called the winter AAA baseball league. My Pet Peeves about youth Hockey

I begin this thread as a response to another thread where I believe the emphasis of coaching skating at the mite level is under emphasized. I have seen too many kids who do not have the basic skating levels at squirt, peewee, bantam, and yes even High School. My first Pet Peeve I list is as inadequa...

I responded to this original question assuming the poster was talking about his 6 year old. When a six year old gets a shift on the ice...how much of that time is spent handling the puck...whether stickhandling or passing? It is obvious that as a six year old if you have superior skating skills you ...

At the age of six I would expect my kids coach to only teach and focus on skating technique. I have yet to see a six year old who can skate properly...and that is going forward and straight. Backwards with crossovers is a whole other issue. I would want my six year old coach to spend three quarters ...

practice to game ratio

I am curious to hear what other people think is the appropriate practice to game ratio. I understand their is the "theory" side of it and the "reality" side of it. My understanding is that squirts play "x" number of games and than practice 3 times that number. Than at p...

I would like to clarify my post regarding the 2 practices to one game ratio. I admit It would most likely be better to have a higher practice to game ratio for skill development IF the coaches are competent and teach. Here is the two examples that I drew on for seeking a 2 to on 1. I spoke to two pa...

limiting the amount of hockey akid can play is ridiculous....the more you play the better you get. With that said games only is bad....I think a better balance is two practices for every one game...especially now with the trend going to four game minimum weekend tourneys. So if you play a four game ...
