Minnehaha's goalie definitely stole the show last night. Doubt there are many teams who win Section games after getting outshot 50-18. Lost in all the drama around the upset was the fact that the United lost one of its 1st-line forwards early in the first period after she fell ill from the norovirus...

We took a team of 1998s out and the talent from top to bottom was excellent. What a treat to watch great young players battle and then stroll from rink 3 to rink 1 to watch Olympians and NCAA champs tear it up. Great experience.

Most of these tournaments are what they are - fundraisers for someone. But they are also very fun for the kids and offer great competition. There are also some very key differences that most folks seem to ignore. For instance, everyone wants to compare Selects and Super Series - both of which are we...

It always amazes me when people come on here and try to shame others into doing something (don't let her play youth hockey because (a) it will ruin girls hockey, or (b) she will "steal" a boy's spot, etc.). Garbage. If you have a daughter who is talented, loves to play and works hard to de...

Three points. First, Minnesota Selects requires a hotel stay in St. Cloud. Enough said. No chance I'm shelling out a couple hundred more dollars for a weekend in St. Cloud (no offense St. Cloud, I'm sure it's lovely there in March...). Our experience is that the Super Series is every bit as good, ma...

The U12 Ice Cougar Majors and the Ice Cats play in the Peewee A MASH league. Full checking. Girl teams against boy teams. Very fun to watch. The girls are very physical, play with their heads up, and are very competitive. May cause you to reconsider that viewpoint. In fact the Ice Cougars played the...

Re: Caribou

"Don't discount the Renegades in the U12 Elites- some of the best talent in the Midwest is playing on that team..." Ouch. 0-2 and outscored 14-3. Haven't seen the Renegades yet, but they haven't even faced what appear to be the top two, Ice Cougar Major and OS Selects, yet. Ice Cats are al...

This is a great opportunity to kick the tires on a very unique AAA program. And I say that from experience with this program and with other AAA programs. I can only comment on my experience having coached Super Series teams. My process of team formation is straightforward: I identify the top 20-25 players in the region by talking to the A coaches AND watching games. To do it right, you have to both listen to coaches AND watch games, period. Some asso...

No way these B teams contend for a State Title. Likely they would finish in the bottom 3rd of their District, depending on the District and the talent on the team. An interesting case study would be District 2, where North St. Paul only fielded an A team and Irondale and Moundsview each fielded an A...

luckyEPDad, you're talking about two totally different things. I agree that recruiting and retention are the keys to making girls hockey in Minnesota strong. That much is beyond true. And every association should be developing ways to encourage girls to play hockey. But the question at hand is: How ...

What's wrong with a simple rule that says: If you don't field an A team, your B team cannot play beyond Districts? That way the top "true B" teams move on to Regionals and State. End of controversy. It would then be a choice each association must make: Field an A team and finish middle or ...
