Last chance for the North?

In looking at the Let's Play Hockey rankings, the future does not look good for any of the Northern teams. Hermantown looks to have the best possibility for success, but none of the AA schools are ranked highly, It appears that if Duluth East doesn't win the AA title this year, it may not happen for a long long time if ever.

lol ... Really???? Pretty sure they will be descent at the very worst... they play one of the toughest schedules in the state and have never been under .500 in the past 30 yrs or so?

Yeah, you're right. They are never going to win again. Might as well shut down the programs and move everyone to the metro.

The Roseau sophomore class won state as PeeWees and VFW state last year as Bantams. Also Grand Rapids next year should be a top 5 team. I know nothing of Moorhead's youth teams but I can't imagine them falling too far away from the state's elite for more than a year or two at a time, regardless of what letsplayhockey says right now.

Those of you down in the cities realize that Duluth East and Denfeld are under the same school district, correct? Good luck to you when Denfeld and East combine on one hockey team. Duluth will still have a smaller enrollment than some of the biggest schools in the Twin Cities.

It seems as though East and Denfeld already are combined as one team, with East being the A team and Denfeld being the B team. Several of East's players played in the west Duluth youth association, and it seems as if there is at least one player that went to Denfeld because he didn't make the East team.(I'm going off what I have read on this board, so please correct anything I'm missing) I mean, how many players on Denfeld would even make East's varsity? Talarico and maybe Thompson the goalie?

Now if East and Hermantown co-opted, that would be a juggernaut. :o

AA BELONGS TO THE METRO SUBURBS.
They have the resources.
The privates like Hill will challenge.
Duluth East and Moorhead will put good teams on the ice.
Roseau and Grand Rapids will come across sometimes.
Bemidji and Brainerd will be in the mix once and a while.

But bottom line is the 'haves' will keep 'having it'.

So let's cheer for everybody else.

Go DEast!

This is Coach Randolph's golden year. This is what he has worked for since his son was small. He took a group of kids, worked hard with them for many years, and this is his payoff. This year is the most important year for Coach Randolph ever. Denfeld... they are going to need to combine with East from what I see.

In the interest of consistancy, everyone who feels this way must dislike the Golden Rats, The New York Yankees of college hockey.

This is almost as pathetic as the Canadians' "let's cheer for everyone other than the U.S." routine.

Wonder if Randolph will quit coaching after his kid graduates, like Terry Cullen did.

I bet he will...unless 5 or 6 kids decide to move to Duluth for the "education" and just happen to be D-1 prospects.

Ask me at the next game we are at Spudnut and I think I will shed some light on Cullen leaving the Spud program.

Let see.....
School Class size

1 DE 1,345
2 Tonka 2,750
3 MG 2,142
4 Eagan 2,147
5 Edina 2,436
6 EP 3,007
7 Spuds 1,356
8 BSM* 920
9 Wayzata 3,060
10 Hill* 705

* Private school

Give DE and Moorhead some credit.......Some of these schools are more than 2x the size. Other Schools like Roseau and Grand Rapids are even smaller. I think they said this about Roseau when they opted up to play the big schools and yet they have not only produced section final teams but State Champion Teams. I do not look solely on what their youth teams are ranked. Quality Coaching and the program itself must come into consideration.

What's the big deal if Randolph quits after this year. Same with Cullen. Are you saying their kids weren't good enough and the only reason they coached is because of their kids? Get real!

You gotta be hallucinating -

What we said was that Terry Cullen left coaching after his boys (all 3 of 'em) graduated. That's a fact - he did.

We were pondering whether Mike Randolph might do the same. Nobody but you said it was a "big deal". It's a free country - they can do what they want, whether you like it or not !

No, that's not what we said, go back & read it again, s-l-o-w-l-y this time.

East is basically a Duluth AAA Team as 3 of the top 6 or so East players moved from Lakers. They were the top Lakers.
We saw what happened to them when they lost 1 of the Lakers (Val) and their recruited goalie against Tonka.

I think East is in a unique situation that most towns do not have. None of these Schools,
Roseau: 374
Warroad: 318
Grand Rapids: 947
Thief River Falls: 705
Bemidji: 1,145
Brainerd: 1,685
have another big school (amature hockey program - Lakers) next door.
Many of the best kids on the Lakers somehow get on the East team.
I don't think it goes the other way. Not saying it is wrong, just telling it like it is.
