Credit to Grand Rapids, they gave East all they could handle tonight, the game could have gone either way. Hopefully we'll see a rematch in next season's 7AA finals.

I'm still shaking. :)

Congrats to the Hounds! We'll see ya next week at the X. Sounds like Grand Rapids gave them quite a game, but I expected nothing less.

So East should be one of the 4 seeded teams, along with Edina, Eden Prairie and H-M (assuming they beat WBL on Friday), correct?

Let's hope so. I'm tired of this one and done getting seeding against hill. I don't thick east has EVER had Hills #.

Maple Grove (if they beat Blaine) and Eagan both have strong arguments for the #4 seed, but who knows at this point? Eagan is 1-1 against state participants, Maple Grove is 1-1, East is 2-2 (3-2 if WBL beats Hill-Murray).

Moorhead and whatever Lakeville team makes it won't be seeded.

If both Hill and Maple Grove win, East will be odd man out.

You gotta pull some strings and have the PageStat rankings be the only method for state seedings and toss out that other stuff, Lee! Then East would be the #3 seed.

Unfortunately, if both Hill and MG win tomorrow, East will probably be the odd team out for a top 4 seed for the second year in a row.

Still, this team is much more talented than last year's--personally, I don't have a real preference for a first-round opponent. Bring on anyone. They looked very good in the Edina loss and they beat EP, so anything can happen. I suspect they'd like a second crack at MG, too.

This state tourney is so wide open that seeding really doesn't matter all that much. But I sure wouldn't mind an upset tomorrow night, and seeing East get the 4-seed; I love seeing them play in that late-night slot, even though it hasn't worked out the past 2 years.

As do I. The kid had a very nice season and played outstanding tonight. The game slipped away from them fast.

They had Hills number last year. If Schendel doesn't take a 1 in a million spill going to grab the puck last year allowing the HM guy to walk in alone I think East very well knocks off HM.
Just an electric game. Great crowd, and as well as DeGuiesseppi played, alot of the shots were too his glove. Jeannetta from DE made a hell of alot of good saves, including a breakaway, and a few fully extended. Jojo played amazing.
It was funny, minutes before the tying goal, peopling were saying Moor wouldn't handle the pressure and to get him off the ice. He really was not playing well, but credit to him he came up HUGE twice.

Also, for anyone asking how Rapids felt, probably the same as I felt when Cloquet scored with seconds remaining to win a shootout in the semi-finals 4 years ago. To put it frank; we were winning, and then we werent.
Go Hounds.

On a side note, I dont think I have seen Randolph this excited in my life. He literally grabbed every single kid in a huge bear hug, guy was electric. Check out the team pic on the Hub...just great!

Umm.. whatever.. No one will ever sympathize that. Yes, you were winning vs Cloquet, but Cloquet had been winning the vast majority of that game. Simply, no one will ever feel sorry for East. They win too much. Just like no one will ever feel sorry for the Lakers losing to the Pistons in 2004.

Tonight's game was Rapids' and then it just vanished. I'm gonna be sick for awhile...

What a hockey game! Couple of observations - agree with them or not. Even though East didn't capitalize on their power play opportunities in the third, it wore Rapids down considerably and they weren't able to get the third line any time, which was giving East fits through the first two periods. If the third period is played five on five, different outcome.
Also, all of the television timeouts worked out great for East in the third with Randolph having his first line on the ice for at least 75% of the period  . It worked tonight, but not likely to get them through the first round at the Excel. Lots of talent on the team, why not use it? Best of luck to the Hounds. Rapids, Thanks for a great season. What a pleasure it was to watch you young men play!

 The expression on his face says it all. I have to give him credit...I had my worries about first line overuse this year, but he managed it perfectly tonight.

Once again, my condolences to the Rapids faithful...what a game. Not sure if anything can top the '05 East-Cloquet final, but this one sure came close.

Congrats to East.
That was one of the best games I have ever listened to.
Tough ending for the black and orange.
They played their hearts out.
Thanks to the Halloween Machine for a great season.
Good luck to all the teams at state next week.

I believe East is a team of destiny this year & are my pick to win the whole thing. Also, love the goalie's name..."JoJo Jeanetta".

Great game and congrats to the East boys. Unfortunate for Rapids to take those penalties in the third. All that chasing left for some tired legs. Once East scored the tying goal you could feel that there was little chance of Rapids getting the game winner.
East will have a hard time at the X if they are going to rely so much on their first line. They won't get away with that at the X.
Good Luck and represent the North.

I hate to say it but DE is going to be one and done. When you have top players saying they didn't know how to react to the the strong GR defense for two entire periods and Randolph keeping the 1st line out for almost 5 minutes (his quote in the paper was they were out there, why not another two minutes) at the end of the game and not trusting the other 20 guys on the bench, they're destined to implode at the X. This is what happens when you make it all about #16. I love the hounds but GR was the much stronger team, changed their game plan to fit the opponent and didn't make too many mistakes until the penalties at the end.

Sounds like you wish the hounds lost? He must have done something right, because the strongest team lost in your opinion.

No, love that they won, but they could have done it earlier in the game by recognizing you can't always stay with same plan. I've had other HS coaches in the area tell me in the past they can't believe DE doesn't change up the plan when it's clearly not working until it's almost too late and that occured again last night. Certainly the 1st line has scored the majority of the goals this year and they are the go-to guys, but as others have said that will not get you all the way through at the X. While neither team really controlled the puck well, GR defense was terrific.
