seeds
i see red wing as a #2 seed right now based on their schedule and the teams they've beaten: ssp, breck, mahtomedi(tie),orono,nf,np,pl,simley. their losses have been close:aha 4-2,lourdes 5-4, sta 3-0,shakopee 4-3ot,tartan 5-4. better resume than either al or west. west /lourdes and west/al are 2 key games left.red wing has several left including hermantown. mayo and century have games left with al and west. things could still change alot in the top 4 spots.LZ94 wrote:Can we move on from LeCrescent?
They are at best the 7 seed in this section.
New Prague seems to have played themselves to the 6 which leaves Northfield 5 and the top 4 will be VERY interesting from here on out.
I'd say, right now:
Lourdes
Albert Lea
West
Red Wing
So much hockey to play yet though.

Re: scores
that's the 1st section loss for lourdes. it was on the road in ot. they beat red wing and albert lea head to head and if they beat west will still be a top 2 seed. they play a tougher overall schedule than west or albert lea so i don't think a loss or 2 will drop them too much.Puckhandler wrote:Or:EaglehockeyI wrote:oops!dipseydoodle17 wrote:here's a nice twist in the section.

I do. I don't think they are very good. I think it's West and A.L. that's the class of the section!EaglehockeyI wrote:that's the 1st section loss for lourdes. it was on the road in ot. they beat red wing and albert lea head to head and if they beat west will still be a top 2 seed. they play a tougher overall schedule than west or albert lea so i don't think a loss or 2 will drop them too much.Puckhandler wrote:Or:EaglehockeyI wrote: oops!

Re: scores
I agree with this, except Lourdes above Red Wing. RedWing just lost to Shakopee and they were horrible. I'm not saying RedWing is bad, they are just very inconsistent. AL has been just rolling lately and west has one loss. say what you want about their schedule, but it's hard to stay consistent in high school hockey and they're winning the games they have to. NP seems to be very inconsistent also. This 6 seed they're getting predicted could land them an upset come sections. Until Lourdes/West play, you gotta put AL 1 and West 2, unless west beats AL too, then they may have a shot at 1. But this post probably is meaningless, as there's still a month of hockey left... just a predictionPuckhandler wrote:EaglehockeyI wrote:oops!dipseydoodle17 wrote:here's a nice twist in the section.

Re: scores
Eagle, really don't care schedule wise, but lets look at some commn opponents for Red Wing. They lose to SHAKOPEE. West and NP handilly beat shakopee. But you think RW is the #1 seed?. This section will come down to West vs Lourdes and West vs AL. If West sweeps, they get the 1 seed. If Lourdes beats West, they get the 1. If AL beats West, they should get the 1 but their loss to Lourdes will put it at a tossup based on common opponentsEaglehockeyI wrote:oops!dipseydoodle17 wrote:here's a nice twist in the section.

i'm sure you wouldn't want to consider the schedules or head to head since it helps west.
ranked teams red wing has played: sta, ssp, orono, mahtomedi, breck,np, lourdes, plus aha twice and tartan who just beat h-m.
lourdes: sta, breck,red wing,scc,L falls,denfeld,I falls,al, np
al: lourdes, denfeld,I falls,west
west: np,al,
the big-9 is way down especially the AA schools, so the schedule for al and west isn't as strong as it normally would be. if you don't count strength of schedule or head to heads then lacrescent would be a 2 seed.
if al or west had to play red wing or lourdes schedule they'd both have a couple of more losses. the big-9 has 5 votes vs 3 for the missota which helps al and west, but red wing and lourdes have established themselves as high caliber programs with more trips to state with better results once they get there.they'd both have gone to state more often, but were in a section with sta.if lourdes had still been in the old section with new ulm and marshall the last few years al would maybe have been to state once.

EaglehockeyI wrote:Eagle, I agree that RW and Lourdes will have played tougher schedules. Never said they didn't. I'm just saying that when you look at common opponents and head to head. Lourdes, AL and West control their own destiny's in my opinion. It probably would have helped RW if they had West and AL on their schedule. Things would have been much clearer.davey wrote:Eagle, really don't care schedule wise, but lets look at some commn opponents for Red Wing. They lose to SHAKOPEE. West and NP handilly beat shakopee. I still think the loss to Shakopee will have an impact on where they get seeded even though they have had some nice wins. Orono,, Breck (the same Breck team that lost to the St. Paul Saints) NP SSP. The other ranked teams they did not beat. Lourdes loss to NP impacts them. NP can make a jump if they get some good wins down the road here. You talk about RW and Lourdes tradition as helping them. Pretty sure the coaches are going to look at this year, not the past few years. As far as tradition, AL has been pretty strong the last few years and held their own at State the last couple of years
If Albert Lea wins out, they get the 1 seed.
They have tough games at Owatonna, at West and at Mayo.
If West wins out they get the 1 seed. They need to beat A.L. and Lourdes. They also have Century and Mayo.
If Lourdes wins out they get the 1 seed. They have West. Also Owatonna and Totino.
Red Wing is not out of it having AHA, Northfield, New Prague and Hermantown left.
Simple as that!

Re: scores
Davey and LZ94 have it figured out...and it is not that difficult. AL and MW control their own destiny: win out and get top seed. Lourdes complicated their own fate by getting beat by an inconsistent NP team. Lourdes can still be considered top seed if MW beats AL, and Lourdes beats MW, big! Failing that, if MW beats Lourdes at the end of the month, that will make AL vs MW the biggest game of the year in the section, with the winner likely getting top seed!
I think AL still needs help to be the top seed, that being West beating Lourdes. A 5-1 loss to Lourdes is still big. All Lourdes loss to New Prague shows is that there are 6 teams very capable of winning the section, which we all probably knew already. Getting the 1 or 2 seed gives those teams an easier first game, though La Crescent is a big unknown.
I still think that Red Wing is capable of getting the #1 seed. The only thing that I think that is holding them down is the 3-2 (ot) loss against Shakopee at home and the 2-2 tie against prior lake (both games were at home). Those 2 games should have easily been won. But on the bright side they have also beat and played with many top teams in both A and AA. They have beat ssp by 3, breck by 3 (same team that beat sta), np by 4, orono by 3, these are their big wins plus they tied mahtomedi. They lost to sta by 3, lourdes by 1, tartan by 1, and aha by 2. All close losses to good teams. They probably won't end up getting the #1 seed but I still don't think you should rule them out.

And if I remember correctly, the games Red Wing played against STA and Lourdes (possibly Mahtomedi?) were with two underclassmen goalies that had never seen varsity time. They have their number 1 back, and those games could have turned out completely different.
I have no idea if thats even considered in seeding though?
and i agree, they also have a pretty tough schedule.
Dont count em out!
