Begrudgingly have to agree with this. I have no idea where LN fits right now but they will be at the X IMO, not sure HF can say that.

All that matters to holy family players, coaches and fans is that no matter how much better Holy family is against the best 1AA, 3AA, & 4AA teams we only want to play Eden Prairie AT MARIUCCI :) and once we finally get our chance then we shall let the rest of the games play out. BTW Prior lake lost 1-0 to 5-5 Moorhead...so yeah it is a two-headed race...ep and hf

It will end just as every other meeting with EP has gone. I have a tremendous amount of respect for HF. They seem to be following a plan and success is well deserved, but your dreaming. But hey Lloyd Christmas had a chance.

Sats, Any line on the game tonight? ER doubled up BSM on shots on goal and could have had a better fate. Is this the first ever meeting between these clubs on the opposite end of the Metro?

Not sure what to think. Not much will surprise me tonight. I think the Elks are a really solid all around team and in my opinion the best in 7AA.

Depends on what North comes to play tonight. Keaton Pehrson (LN best dman) was sick yesterday so that didn't help against HF (no excuse) so will have to see if he is able to go tonight as he makes things a lot easier transitioning, getting pucks out of d zone cleanly and is very good on the PP.

If North's goaltending holds up they are as good as anyone in MN. That is their achilles right now.

Should be a very good game.

Oh, and PS as far as I know, this would be first time they have met at the HS level as I know these groups have collided before in Pee Wees and Bantams.

Thanks, Hopefully they can contain Poehling. How entertaining would it be to have Jax Murray rolling with Zerban and Co.

Interesting similarities and contrasts in the 2 night games last night.

BSM/Maple Grove
Maple Grove got off to a hot start getting a couple PP goals then BSM got one late in the period. The 2nd started on a high note for MG as well. BSM cleared the puck on the PK and changed lines. MG did not. Goodman (the goalie) made an excellent outlet pass to Janicke who put some nice moves on Bischel and slid it into an open half of the net.

Then things got worse for MG. They took 4 consecutive penalties and were on the PK for the majority of the 2nd period. BSM started to gain momentum at this point but didn't score on any of the PP chances. The 3rd period was all BSM. The most MG could do was either clear or ice the puck. Moore got the first BSM goal of the period as he tipped a shot through the 5-hole. There was pandemonium in front of the net as the 3rd period was ending. The puck trickled out to the high slot where Austin came in and rifled it into the net to tie it with 5 seconds left.

OT had some good chances for both teams. Austin again got the puck in the high circle and found the back of the net to win it for BSM. They went wild.

All of the penalties on MG in the 2nd shifted the game to BSM. They played a dominant 3rd period and found a way to get the goals they needed to get it to OT. They did show some frustration when it didn't seem like they would score, but held together and found a way to win.

Goodman was phenomenal for MG. He made 50 saves and many were spectacular. Great game for the netminder.

Elk River/Lakeville North
Just like MG, Elk River dominated the 1st period. I've seen a lot of LVN hockey and haven't seen them this ineffective this season. ER was getting open looks and great chances. Eigner made several nice saves to hold ER to 2 first period goals. At the end of the 1st period Poehling went down from an apparent slash to the knee. I didn't see it but heard others around me talking about a 2 hander to the knee. Upon video review after the game it looked pretty innocent.

To start the 2nd, the LVN lines were switched up. Poehling was with McGlade and T.Schneider with Max Johnson, Enebak, and Brandt on the 2nd line. S.Schneider who played with Max and Taylor was moved to the 4th line. These changes were the spark LVN needed. They created instant pressure and offense. Kappes scored a nice goal as he bounced it off the goalies back and into the net. Then the LVN defense fell asleep for about 40 seconds and ER capitalized scoring 2 goals.

LVN outshot ER 15-7 in the 2nd and 19-3 in the 3rd. Meyers made several excellent saves for ER. Klans scored on a nice wrister through traffic to cut the ER lead to 4-2 but LVN couldn't get anything else past Meyers. Interesting that both of the LVN goals were by the 3rd line. The top 2 lines dominated possession and chances but didn't put points on the board. Poehling is a treat to watch. It's worth going to any game just to watch him.

Again LVN will be ripped for losing 2 games in this tourney. I didn't see the HF game. Based on the game tonight, I'm still not sure I'd change anything for LVN. Other than the 1st period they played a solid game, but unlike BSM they couldn't get the clutch goals they needed to get a win.

Sats, What was with the flop by Poehling when Michaelis tapped the back of his leg? Film clip shows not much there or did it hit just right on the nerve? Big win for Elks, hopefully Myers can keep it at this level and the Elks remain opportunistic on the offensive end. Are you still going with only 4 teams have a chance to win it. It appears it may be more wide open and agree that BSM is not that far ahead of everyone.

Must have hit him just right. Elks are good, been saying that for 3 weeks and not surprised by outcome although LN did control play for 2/3 of game just couldn't finish. Eigner made some key saves. Boys need to score more, bottom line. I don't think LN needs to change anything right now. They played very well for stretches all week, just need to play a complete game. They will be fine and despite what every else is gonna rank them after this week, I still think they are a top 5 team which is what I have said since last March after state championship. If you ask me right now I don't think BSM wins state, in fact I am not even sure if they make it out of their section. D isn't great. Lots of firepower, offensive skill and the Bischel kid is good in nets but as all Ken Pauly teams they can't defend well and give up too many odd man rushes and leave goalies hanging often.

If i'm a betting man my picks for state are as follows: LN, Blaine, EP, Edina, STA, Elk River, Hill Murray, Bemidji.

My thoughts are still same, the 4 teams that have the firepower to win 6 straight games are EP, Blaine, BSM and LN. I do think Elks could surprise people though, tough to win 7AA and then 3 tough games in St Paul...North definitely has the advantage having a very weak section. I think this year 1AA could be weaker than it has been in the last decade.

1AA

Sats81:

Agree with 1AA being weaker, but having seen several of the schools play, but the talent gap between appears to be closer among the top 4 teams in this section. Your thoughts...

My 1AA mid-season rankings would be:

1) LN
2) Farm
3) JM
4) LS
5) Mayo
6) Century
7) Owatonna
8) DC

To be honest, I have only seen LN, Farmington and LS play.

I don't think come section time anyone will touch LN (yes I know they lost to Farmington, but the game was a fluke). I know South beat Farmington as well, but after watching both play several times now, Farmington is clearly the better team. (Siebenaler and Jette-their 2 best players) barely played in game against South.

I have heard JM is decent and would think they are comparable to South.

I would say no chance anyone unseats North this year in 1AA.
