Areed. They do not have the scoring or the depth from last year but they are, as last year, very griitty and experienced on D. Connor will pick it up a notch in section's.

Last night's games shine anymore light on seedings?

Fairmont at LaCrescent (Surprised with the spread 10-1)
Mankato East at LeSueur (LSP tough at home... SW big night 6-3)
Northfield at Red Wing (shots equal...NF playing well 5-2 )
Redwood Valley at Waseca (Waseca lossed...could hurt 6-3)
Century at Fairbo (Nice bounce back game for Fairbo 6-5)
JM at Winona (Win struggling...JM on a small roll 5-0)
New Prague at Orono (NP tough game, knew it would be close 2-1)

grandmeadow, for someone who doesn't have any interest in Lourdes, you sure seem to talk a heck of a lot about them.

I never said I don't have interest in them. I said I have no rooting interest. I talk about the teams I have seen only. I do not proclaim to be a expert. I talk about the teams I have seen only. Edina, st Thomas, hill Murray, elk river, Grand Rapids, Eden prairie, Wayzata, Farmington, lakeville south, century, mayo, jm, Hermantown, EGF, duluth Marshall, breck, Delano, SCC, Hibbing, Luverne, Mankato west, northfield, and Lourdes. There are very few teams that I will even post about that I have seen this year. Understand!!!

And in this section the biggest question right now is seeding for playoffs. On this post I have talked about 1A teams. The seeding dilemma in this section to me is where to seed Lourdes. On the 7AA post I talk about 7Aa teams, on the 7A post I talk about Hermantown, Marshall, denfeld. On 3A I talk about Luverne.

My current list:

1) New Prague
2) LeSeuer/Henderson
3) Mankato West
4) Northfield
5) Faribault
6) Mankato East
7) Albert Lea
8- Lourdes
9) Waseca
10) LaCrescent
11) Red Wing
12) Winona
13) Austin

LeSeuer is high largely because they beat West, they still have to play East, Waseca twice, LaCrescent, and Faribault so they could really drop but for now I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Faribault's tie with Waseca gives me pause but they have some key games remaining as well and could jump up. Lourdes schedule is brutal but their 3 win total keeps them low, Albert Lea's struggles won't boost the Eagles should they win that game a whole lot at this point.

Interestingly, Austin has recently lost one goal games to West, Faribault, and Northfield. Red Wing lost 1 goal games to New Prague and West, while Winona beat Northfield. There will be no easy outs in this section. This is why Lourdes doesn't get the benefit of being Lourdes this year, too much parity.

The East loss for St. Peter is going to be too much to overcome unless they beat Faribault. If they do beat Faribault, then they may have discussion for being in the top 4, but St. Peter's weak schedule isn't going to help them. If West beats Faribault, it probably means they end up the 2 seed.

I think there are some decent hockey teams in this section, and the scores don't tell us a lot. Lots of teams grinding out wins rather than winning with flashy, high octane hockey. (ie; not many large margins of victory) Lots of teams at the top that remind me of Roy Nystrom's good teams. New Prague clearly is the most talented team, but in hockey, we know that doesn't always mean a whole lot.

Too much hockey down the stretch to decide things. There is NO dominant team in the section. The fact that comparing West/Le Sueur's opponents winning percentage (removing multiple wins) slightly favors LS, and head to head LS beat West can not be understated. West (or anyone else in the section) shouldn't get a free pass to a good seed based on past history. For all we know Lourdes just might sneak up and bite someone in the top four. I do think NP is going to get 1 or 2 based on real performance....let's see how the four teams of West, Northfield, Faribault, and LS do coming down the stretch since Faribault plays the other three.

New Prague has to be the number one seed. There is no way they don't get the number one seed. Consistently good through whole seeson. Solid defense and goalie. Scoring is there most of the games. They played well against Orono, mankTo west, and others. I would put that seed in cement.

I am also going to see there is a 0% chance lesuer is ranked any higher than four or five. Put that in ink also. West, faribault, albert lea, northfield are your top four or five.

Lesuer feasted on the lower half teams in section 1 and then played section 3 and with that you are placing them as number 2. I see they played what two or three average teams and the result was a big lose to Luverne. There was a win early in the season against an average Mankato west team.
New ulm and Mankato east are your tough competition after those two. Really? Seed five or six is the best you will get! Sorry to rain on your backyard rink!

a slew of games tonight...my pics in bold (some tough ones)

Austin at JM
Fairbo at Albert Lea
LaCrescent at Tomah
Lourdes at Minnehaha Academy
Northfield at Century
West at Red Wing
Winona at Owatonna

did I miss any?

I do get a slight kick out of people complaining about the strength of schedule and bashing teams because of it... It's not like they have a choice who they play all the time... Big 9 teams had to drop a lot of their non-conference games because of additional teams, so that took games away from teams like LSP, LaC & Waseca... If they are winning the games they are supposed to, why do people knock them? If they beat a good team earlier in the year, why knock them... When else can they prove that they belong? All I know is that there seems to be a lot of parity in the section this year, with no dominant team (NP looks tops to me) - but a bunch of good ones, and no real bad dogs... Tons of games coming up that should dictate where the teams are seeded... Unless the Big 9 sticks together, and snuffs out the little guys again.

Le Seuer beats Waseca (Faribault didn't)
Red Wing beats West
Century beats Northfield
Minnehaha beats Lourdes

The Bulldogs keep winning and I need an Enigma machine to decipher what grandmeadowhockeyfan says.

Real quality win waseca? Yes they should be a seven through ten seed . I would hang that win out there for the seeding committee to see .

Is Waseca a quality win? You're the one who claims the Big Nine is so tough yet Faribault tied Waseca. You hang your hat on your record, one that includes beating West and outside New Prague probably the best win any 1A team has with a win over Hutchinson.

Mayo will likely win the Big Nine, Mayo couldn't beat Eveleth, guess who did beat Eveleth? Hutch. The SWC does have some poor teams, but just because the Big Nine is even doesn't make it good. Luverne would probably win the Big Nine.

Interesting day yesterday. Nice bounce back day for West against Mayo, Faribault and Century took care of business.

Light Night in 1A

Dodge County at Lourdes
Waseca at LSP
East at Mayo
Red Wing at Owatonna
Holy Family at New Prague

Some easy/Some tough... few big games coming up this week and next that should put some teams in their deserved seeding spot.
I'm not even going to attempt a mock seeding until after the weekend.

Enjoy the games!

I have a feeling that tonight Holy Family is going to do a whole lot better vs NP than they did last time.

Red wing has come on strong here at the end of the year. I am starting to think I should have added them to the winners of the section poll. Playing these guys in a quarterfinal will be a real battle. Don't overlook these guys!

Right on with this one. HF came out with some thing to prove in this game. NP played them pretty tough in the first period 1-1, but they couldn't keep up that intensity as the game went on. Went into a shell in third and watched HF skate around them. HF should be a force come sections. NP needs to regroup and play a decent game vs Delano and Lourdes before section's.
