The other key to the Skinner Academy is you are getting Sean Skinner himself for the full 1050 hours ... he's one of the most well respected and sought after hockey instructors in the world , specializing in stickhandling, checking, skating and tactics ...

- this is a great opportunity at a great price ...

Where does the 50 games come from? I thought the idea was that they wouldn't play games until the halfway point and, even then, only in select tournaments.

Sean Skinner is noted and sought after for stickhandling and a few other select skills. At no point have I ever seen anyone refer to him as an expert in tactics, yet that is half the on-ice curriculum.

Great opportunity, I guess, but I would have a hard time handing over that check without someone else having been through the experience first who could tell me how wonderful it was for their child. Great price, not so much.

Picking up the phone does wonders. I was able to speak with Sean and ask all my questions. That's the source of the info I am getting. You can confirm with him yourself ...

As far as Sean's credentials go, he's not only one of the most sought after skills instructors around, his coaching qualifications are extensive, including tactical.

Maybe this is a really stupid question?? So if this is for 9th and 10th graders and little Tommy enrolls in this program then goes back to his HS after a year with Skinner and SLP HS, would he have to sit out a year before playing on his High School team? Or is the assumption they would play USHL/NAHL/Canada Jrs?

He would be INELIGIBLE to play varsity for ONE year as the School LOCATION would be in Blaine. (Unless he attended Blaine).

Once you START 9th grade you have to play JV as a 10th grader so WATCH out parents, If you spent $30,000 for 9th grade, better go Straight to Junior B, NAHL, or other option.

You are correct. The area of Blaine that the Super Rink sits in is within the Spring Lake Park geographical school boundary.

What has this guy coached? According to his resume, he's never coached, even at the mite level. Red flags go up when you list USA Hockey levels 1,2,3,4 coaching certifications as career highlights! (for the record, if you can sit for more than 6 hrs. and your butt didn't fall asleep, you too can get levels 1,2,3,4). I would think twice about sending your kids college tuition to a guy so he can afford to travel oversees to "talk" about hockey.

Time will tell but I'll be surprised if it flies. And, the kids and teams aren’t going to be very good because most strong players are happy where they are. Kind of like the early years of the Fire. Small associations and malcontents, maybe.

Observer -- you got most of it spot on. The kids from Minnesota are a bonus, but everything else he needed is right here already.

Ice - Plentiful and cheap. Even at $200 per hour, or thereabouts, it is 30% less than other parts of the country. Plus, he will be free in the evenings to teach stickhandling to associations that might hire him.

Off-Ice Facility -- On site and available. The Herb Brooks facility is normally only open after school hours. It also has everything needed including a treadmill and a qualified staff standing by.

Dormitories - They are on site and available now that the US Women's Hockey team has moved out. Transportation to/from the rink is not required, something available at only a few locations in the country.

School - There is room at the NSC for classes, a lunchroom in the dorms, and teachers can be drawn from area schools to work after their "day job" has ended.

If this thing tanks, there is almost no financial risk to Skinner. Nobody is building dorms, rinks, an off-ice training facility, a school, or buying buses to move them around. The teachers and off-ice staff are already working. The risk is all with the clients. What if there are five Bantam A capable kids, five Bantam B, and five beginners that decide this hockey thing looks pretty interesting. Have fun doing a month of defensive zone coverage drills with that spread in talent. WPIIA is smart for making a lot of phone calls before writing that check. I hope he gets all the answers he seeks.

IM hit the nail, what about the teachers. Who will the teachers be,what classes will be offered. I would guess that most teachers at SLP are done before these kids will be in class.
On another note these kids would be considered in attendance at SLP also SLP hockey or the players home residence would be the governing hockey association.

Anyone know if Mr Skinner approached Mn Hockey for an affiliate agreement or is he working with Spring Lake Park?
I would think that this would need to be in place as a contract before he could make any commitments to both players and ice.
